Put the video you want viewers to see first at the top of your playlist in the cloud playout service, then start or schedule the YouTube stream. For a one-time opening, use a playlist with that video as its only item or first item. Playlist order—not a YouTube Live setting—is the documented control for choosing which prerecorded video plays first.
Set the opening video before you start
- Choose the exact video. Make sure the file is in the cloud service’s library or an available storage source.
- Create or edit the playlist. Move the target video to position one. If the opening must be unambiguous, make a dedicated playlist with that clip first—or as the only item.
- Select YouTube and configure the broadcast. Enter the stream details and choose whether to start immediately or schedule it for later.
- Check the preview and YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm the first item before relying on the stream. Preview is a prudent verification step, not a guarantee that every service displays or applies changes in the same way.
- Start or schedule the stream. The cloud service plays the ordered playlist and, where supported, loops it.
OneStream Live documents sequential playlist queueing; Gyre says its playlist sets playback order and loops back to the beginning after the final file. Neither cited guide documents a universal “start at this item” selector that can seek to an arbitrary entry after a stream has begun. What if the stream is already running?
Do not assume moving a video to the top will make the live stream jump to it immediately. Gyre says a playlist can be changed while a stream is running, but its instructions do not establish the exact transition behavior or promise an immediate seek. Check the service’s current interface, apply the edit, and verify what is playing in its preview and YouTube Live Control Room. If the desired opening must be certain, stop and rebuild or reschedule the stream with the correct item first, if the service’s workflow allows it.
Where the start position is controlled
YouTube’s Live Streaming API models a broadcast as the event and a live stream as the incoming audio-video feed. Its broadcast creation, binding, and lifecycle controls do not choose the first file in an external playlist. That selection belongs to the cloud playout service. Google Cloud Live Stream API is a different product category: its overview describes accepting a live SRT or RTMP input and transcoding it into HLS or DASH outputs saved to Cloud Storage. It is not documented there as a prerecorded-playlist scheduler. Google Cloud Live Stream API overview.

Its described flow is to choose Create and 24-hour Stream, add videos from a device, OneStream storage, or cloud storage such as Google Drive or Dropbox, choose the YouTube channel, enter stream details, choose an immediate or later start, set the duration, and schedule the broadcast. Its playlist instructions, last updated September 10, 2026, describe selecting multiple videos and queuing them in a specific sequence. Gyre describes uploading video files, arranging them in a looping playlist, connecting a YouTube channel, and starting or scheduling the stream. Its article says the playlist controls playback order, returns to the beginning after the last file, and can be edited during a running stream. Those are vendor-described capabilities; the article does not establish immediate arbitrary-item jumps, uptime, or performance. Gyre’s 24/7 streaming article.
Keep YouTube ingestion settings in context
You usually choose the playlist order in the playout service, not by changing YouTube’s ingest protocol. If you are configuring an encoder to send HLS directly, YouTube’s HLS guide specifies an HTTPS ingestion URL and HLS stream key, TS format, 1–4 second segments, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, and no encryption other than HTTPS. The guide notes that HLS has higher latency than continuous RTMP because it sends segments. A cloud playlist service may manage these ingestion details for you. YouTube HLS ingestion guide.

For API operations, YouTube says Data API requests must be authorized by the Google Account that owns the broadcast channel. Its API overview covers broadcast and stream resources, preview/testing, and lifecycle operations; these are separate from the playlist’s opening position. YouTube Live Streaming API overview.
Costs and practical checks
Cloud service plans, storage allowances, supported sources, and duration limits vary. The cited OneStream material establishes plan and duration details above, but does not provide a complete current price or reliability comparison. Gyre’s cited article does not establish an equivalent plan, price, or maximum-duration comparison. Confirm current terms in the service you choose, and check whether your account has enough storage for the files and playlist you intend to run.

- Confirm the desired file is uploaded and playable before scheduling.
- Check that the intended item is genuinely first, not merely selected or highlighted.
- Verify the correct YouTube channel and stream destination.
- For scheduled streams, verify the start time and time zone in the service.
- Check the preview/status and YouTube Live Control Room before promoting the stream.
- Review YouTube’s copyright rules and monetization policies for the videos you plan to loop; permission to upload a file does not by itself establish that a channel qualifies for monetization.
Troubleshooting
The wrong video opens
Check the actual playlist sequence and make sure the target is in position one. If the service distinguishes a selected video from the queued order, verify the queue rather than relying on a highlight. Rebuild the playlist if its order is unclear.

The stream is already playing another item
A playlist edit may not force an immediate jump. Confirm the service’s live-edit behavior in its current interface. If it cannot seek to the desired item, use a stop-and-restart or rescheduling workflow with the corrected playlist, where available.
The stream does not start at the scheduled time
Check the selected channel, stream details, scheduled time and time zone, and the service’s status or preview. For API-managed broadcasts, confirm that the broadcast is bound to the intended incoming stream and that the authorized Google Account owns the channel.
A video is missing or cannot be played
Confirm that the file finished uploading, is in a supported location, and is available to the service account. If it is stored externally, check the connection or permissions and reselect the source if needed.

HLS has more delay than expected
That can be normal: YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency than continuous RTMP because it sends media in segments. The HLS segment settings apply to an encoder sending HLS directly, not necessarily to a cloud playlist service that manages ingestion itself.
