Compare the Hindi and English streams as separate videos over matching date windows. Use average view duration and the audience-retention curves to judge viewing duration; treat views, watch time, and concurrent viewers as context, not substitutes for retention. YouTube Studio does not document a retention curve segmented by the language a viewer speaks, so if the streams have separate video IDs, this is a side-by-side comparison—not a native Hindi-versus-English retention report.
What to compare—and what each metric means
For a 24/7 channel, first confirm that the Hindi and English versions are distinct videos or livestreams in YouTube Studio. Compare their viewing-duration measures, then use audience size and composition metrics to add context.

YouTube’s typical-retention comparison can show a video against the creator’s 10 latest videos of similar length. That is a useful reference where available, but it is not a language-matched experiment; the videos may differ in content, schedule, and other ways.
How to compare the Hindi and English streams in YouTube Studio
- Open the relevant reports. In YouTube Studio, go to Analytics and select the Live content view, or open an ended stream from Content → Live. YouTube provides Live, On demand, and Live & on demand views, and reports livestream performance at video level. Interface labels can vary because YouTube has been gradually updating Analytics since July 2026. See YouTube Analytics guidance.
- Select the two stream video IDs. Choose the Hindi and English versions you intend to compare. If one stream changed format, was interrupted, or had a major programming change, record that discontinuity rather than treating both periods as equivalent.
- Align the date windows and filters. Choose the same date range for both streams. For a 24/7 operation, use the same number of complete days and equivalent weekdays where possible. Keep any country/region, traffic-source, or other filters consistent and record them. YouTube’s live content analytics guidance describes average view duration by selected content, date range, country/region, and other filters; the matching procedure is a comparison practice, not a guarantee of experimental control.
- Compare viewing duration first. Read average view duration and the retention curves before considering total watch time, views, and average or peak concurrent viewers. Note important dips or spikes and the moments where they occur; do not declare a winner from peak concurrency alone.
- Wait for processed retention data. Live Control Room provides real-time values, while YouTube Analytics processes and despams data and can show different information. Retention typically takes 1–2 days to populate, so use processed Analytics for the comparison and note when you captured it. See live metrics guidance and retention guidance.
- Preserve a reproducible record. In Advanced Mode, use expanded reports, performance comparison, and export where available. Save the exported data with the video IDs, date ranges, filters, exclusions, and capture date. YouTube’s Analytics interface is documented at Get started with YouTube Analytics.
How to interpret the result without overclaiming
Describe the observed difference, not an unsupported cause
If the Hindi stream has a longer average view duration or a different retention curve in the matched window, report that observed difference and name the measure. It does not establish that language caused the difference unless schedule, programming, format, audience, and other conditions are sufficiently comparable. State the time window and filters with any claimed winner.

Keep audience language and geography in context
YouTube audience reports can include top geographies and subtitle/CC languages, but these describe channel audience patterns; they do not prove a viewer’s spoken language or identify which stream version that person watched. Some audience data may be limited. The monthly audience figure, where shown, uses a 28-day rolling window and is audience context—not a retention comparison window. Do not invent a benchmark
YouTube’s documentation does not establish a universal “good” retention percentage for this comparison, or that Hindi or English should perform better. Present the actual metrics and their limitations rather than grading either stream against an unsupported threshold.

Common comparison mistakes
- Calling concurrency retention: concurrent viewers count people watching at the same time; average view duration and the retention curve address viewing duration.
- Comparing different calendar coverage: mismatched weekdays or partial days can make a 24/7 comparison less meaningful. Align complete days and equivalent weekday coverage where practical, and disclose any mismatch.
- Treating audience reports as viewer-level language data: geography and subtitle/CC language do not prove spoken language or the stream watched.
- Reading live values as final retention: use processed Analytics after the retention report has had time to populate; live and processed reports can differ.
- Ignoring interruptions or programming changes: annotate them and avoid presenting unlike periods as a controlled comparison.
