In Streamlabs Talk Studio, set a YouTube stream’s title on the details screen in the immediate Go Live flow. To add a thumbnail before broadcasting, use Schedule: Streamlabs documents a thumbnail field there, but not in its immediate Go Live steps.
Set the title when you’re going live now

In Talk Studio, click Go Live.

If YouTube is not connected, choose Add Destination, select YouTube, sign in, and grant Talk Studio access.

Select YouTube as a destination and choose the stream’s visibility: public, private, or unlisted.

Continue to the stream details screen. Enter the title, description, and category, then click Go Live when you’re ready.

Choose the right visibility
- Public: Anyone can view the stream.
- Private: Only invited people can view it; it does not appear in search or recommendations.
- Unlisted: It does not appear in search or recommendations, but anyone with the link can watch.
These options are described in Streamlabs’ YouTube tutorial. Select the one that fits your audience before going live.

Add a thumbnail before the stream starts
For a scheduled broadcast, use Talk Studio’s Schedule control, choose YouTube as the destination, and fill in the scheduled stream details. Streamlabs’ scheduling guide includes a thumbnail field alongside title, description, and date and time. For a YouTube scheduled stream, the guide says YouTube creates an event link. If you need to set the title and thumbnail together in advance, scheduling is the documented Talk Studio route. The immediate Go Live documentation covers the title and other metadata, but does not list a thumbnail field.

Upload or change a thumbnail in YouTube Studio
YouTube’s general custom-thumbnail instructions describe this route: open Content in YouTube Studio, select the relevant item, open its details, choose Upload file under Thumbnail, and save. These instructions cover video thumbnails generally; they do not guarantee that every live event created through Talk Studio will expose the same editing controls. If the scheduled stream is not available in the expected screen, use Talk Studio’s documented Schedule flow or check the current YouTube Live Control Room controls. Prepare an image that meets YouTube’s guidance
- YouTube recommends JPG or PNG and a 16:9 aspect ratio for custom video thumbnails.
- The stated recommended resolution is up to 3840 × 2160 pixels, with a minimum width of 640 pixels.
- The stated maximum file size for desktop uploads is 50 MB. Limits can vary by upload platform or account, so follow the current on-screen validation.
- Custom thumbnails must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines. A change may take time to appear.
If the thumbnail option is missing

Check whether the stream is scheduled or starting immediately. The explicit Talk Studio thumbnail field is in the Schedule flow, not the documented immediate Go Live sequence.

Check channel verification. Streamlabs says verification is required for YouTube live streaming and custom thumbnails and warns it may take up to 24 hours. YouTube also says an account must be verified to upload custom video thumbnails. If you have just completed verification, allow for processing time.

Check the editing screen and event availability. YouTube’s custom-thumbnail steps are general video instructions, not a guarantee for every third-party-created live event. Try the Talk Studio Schedule form or look for the event in current YouTube Live Control Room controls.

Check the file against the upload prompt. Use a supported image and follow the limits shown for your account and upload surface.
