If Streamlabs Talk Studio stays on “Starting,” first check YouTube’s live-stream eligibility and the channel’s initial live setup. Then verify that Talk Studio is connected to and targeting the right YouTube channel, check browser permissions and internet stability, and look in YouTube Studio for an error or an already-active broadcast. A “Starting” message alone does not identify the cause, so work through these checks rather than assuming one fix will apply to every case.
1. Check YouTube eligibility and the initial live session
Streamlabs’ Talk Studio guidance says a channel must be verified and must first complete a live session using YouTube Studio’s built-in webcam before Talk Studio access becomes available. These are documented setup steps, not steps every established channel necessarily needs to repeat.
- Verify the channel. For a new channel, follow YouTube’s channel verification flow. Streamlabs says verification can take about 24 hours; this is separate from the later wait after the initial live session.
- Complete the first live session in YouTube Studio. Use Create > Go-live > Right now > Built-in webcam. Streamlabs recommends making this test stream Unlisted.
- Wait 24 hours after that session before trying to start a Talk Studio broadcast. Streamlabs documents this interval for Talk Studio access.

2. Confirm the connected YouTube account and destination
In Talk Studio, check that the intended YouTube channel is connected and selected as the destination. Its documented flow is to choose a destination, fill in stream details such as the title and description, and then select Go Live.

If you use several Google or YouTube accounts, make sure you authenticated the account that owns the channel you mean to stream to. Streamlabs advises signing out of the relevant platform domain before adding a destination when multiple accounts could cause the wrong account to be selected. 3. Check browser permissions and devices
Talk Studio runs in a browser and may need permission to use your camera and microphone. If no permission prompt appeared, open the site-permissions control near the address bar, allow access as needed, then refresh the page. Use Talk Studio’s camera and microphone menus to select the intended devices. These checks are especially relevant if the browser reports a permission problem or the selected device is unavailable; they do not establish that permissions are the cause of every “Starting” hang.

4. Test connection stability and upload capacity
Streamlabs recommends a stable internet connection, preferably Ethernet. Its published guidance gives these upload targets:

These are Streamlabs’ published targets (2025), not a guarantee that a broadcast will start and not a universal YouTube requirement. Run an upload-speed test on the connection you will actually use, and consider stability as well as the peak result. If both your computer and router support it, testing over Ethernet can help distinguish a wireless stability problem from an account or destination issue. 5. Look for a YouTube error or another active broadcast
Open YouTube Studio and check whether the intended live event shows an error or is already live. YouTube’s help page says a channel can have up to 10 active streams and a stream key up to 3; if either limit has been reached, another stream cannot start. Check for a broadcast left active before trying again.

YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting also recommends checking for dashboard errors and testing the outbound internet connection. Its page is written for encoder workflows generally, so use only diagnostics available in your browser-based Talk Studio setup; do not assume that encoder-specific controls apply. The cited official guidance does not specify a universal reset sequence for a Talk Studio broadcast stuck at “Starting,” and the status by itself does not prove a particular cause. Before contacting Streamlabs support, note:

- The time of the attempt and the exact Talk Studio status or error.
- Which YouTube channel was connected and selected.
- Whether YouTube Studio shows an error, a live event, or an existing active broadcast.
- Your browser and device, plus whether camera and microphone permissions are allowed.
- A recent upload-speed result and whether you were on Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Share those observations with Streamlabs support so the issue can be narrowed down to eligibility, account selection, browser access, network conditions, or a service-side problem instead of guessing.
