Footage reported in September 2026 showed the camera in Silo, Bunker I and Surface I. It is a work-in-progress feature within a much broader community mod, not a polished standalone re-release.
What is GoldenEye 007 Plus?
GoldenEye 007 Plus is a community modification built on decompiled source from Rare’s Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye 007. The project repository describes a wider effort focused on performance and stability, expanded multiplayer and campaign co-op, quality-of-life changes, and experimental map creation. Its repository snapshot is an in-development record, not proof that every listed feature is complete in a downloadable build.
The project’s internal checkpoint V90 is dated September 28, 2026. It lists adjustable third-person camera and crosshair settings, sight translucency during manual aiming, work aligning projectiles, beams and tracers, and fixes for third-person cutscenes in Surface II and Dam. The repository also describes one-to-four-player campaign co-op architecture, more multiplayer maps and menus, dual-wield behavior, save-backed options, mirrored levels and an in-development map maker. Can you play GoldenEye 007 in third person?
GoldenEye 007 Plus is developing a third-person option, with Bond framed over the shoulder rather than hidden behind the original first-person view. Time Extension’s September 23, 2026 report described a video uploaded by Graslu00 showing the camera in Silo, Bunker I and Surface I. The clip ran on Analogue 3D software; that is the platform shown in the video, not a stated requirement or official compatibility guarantee for the mod. The footage also showed an unfinished animation detail: Bond’s crouch walk appeared to slide on his knees. That is an observation about the clip, not a general performance or compatibility test. The repository’s listed camera, crosshair and alignment work indicates the feature is still being tuned.
What does the GoldenEye 007 Plus mod change?
The camera is the most immediately visible change, but it is only one part of the project. The repository snapshot groups its work across campaign co-op, multiplayer, optimization, convenience features and experimental creation tools. These are development areas and feature listings, rather than a promise that each is finished or available together in a stable release.

DSOGaming’s October 3, 2026 overview also reports adjustable camera and crosshair settings, translucent sights while aiming, weapon-alignment work, fixes to Surface II and Dam cutscenes, campaign co-op and map-maker development. Does GoldenEye 007 Plus include the ROM?
No. The project repository states: “This repository contains source code and project material only. It is not a substitute for the original game.” It also says: “A legally obtained retail ROM is required where the upstream build/extraction process needs original game data.” The repository does not distribute the original retail ROM. The requirement applies to the relevant build or extraction steps; it should not be mistaken for a universal ready-to-run installation path on every computer or console.

The repository provides build instructions, including an expected NTSC-U ROM filename and a SHA-1 verification step. Consult those instructions for the exact process rather than assuming that owning a cartridge alone installs or runs the mod. Plan for a source-based project workflow and, where the upstream process requires it, lawful access to the original game data. The repository documents build steps, but the available project information does not establish one universal, ready-to-run setup for all hardware and emulators.

- Use the project repository’s build instructions for prerequisites, the expected NTSC-U ROM filename and SHA-1 verification.
- Keep emulator or plugin behavior distinct from game-code regressions when diagnosing problems.
- If Project64 with GLideN64 displays a black world, the project notes that framebuffer or depth settings may be involved. “Force depth buffer clear = ON” is listed as a useful diagnostic, not a mandatory setting for every setup.
- When reporting a problem, record emulator and plugin versions and relevant settings so the issue can be reproduced.
