Grand Theft Auto VI could face a timing problem for The Game Awards 2026, but it has not been confirmed ineligible. Take-Two has announced a November 19, 2026 release for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, while The Game Awards says its 2026 nominees are coming in mid-November. The official FAQ available as of October 4 still explains the previous cycle’s deadline, not the 2026 eligibility cutoff.
Will GTA 6 be eligible for The Game Awards 2026?
There is no confirmed answer yet. The Game Awards’ official FAQ currently says that games released after November 21, 2025, at 9 p.m. PT are eligible for the 2026 ceremony. That date belongs to the prior eligibility cycle; it does not establish the cutoff for games being considered for the 2026 awards. Take-Two’s announced November 19 launch is close to the event’s nomination timeline: The Game Awards’ homepage says 2026 nominees are coming in mid-November, and the ceremony is scheduled for December 10. Why the November 19 release date does not settle it
A game’s public launch date is not necessarily the only date that matters to the nomination process. The FAQ says publishers and developers may provide review copies or digital redemption codes to voting outlets so critics can evaluate games before ballot deadlines. That means jurors might have an opportunity to assess GTA VI before its public release; it does not prove that they will, or that the game receives an exception to a deadline. The FAQ describes a jury of more than 100 media and influencer outlets for most categories. Each outlet submits an unranked ballot with five choices; the five games appearing on the most ballots become nominees, with six or more possible in a tie. The FAQ’s separate 90% jury and 10% public-vote split applies to choosing winners, not to the nomination deadline. Those process details do not reveal whether GTA VI will make the ballot. How the other 2026–27 award calendars compare
“Game of the Year” is not one universal award with one shared eligibility cutoff. These programs have different schedules, rules and entry processes.

Golden Joystick: the public vote comes first
The Golden Joystick timetable is separate from The Game Awards. Its 2026 Ultimate Game of the Year vote is scheduled to close before GTA VI’s announced launch. Daniel Dawkins, content director of Golden Joystick Awards at Future, said: “With the hugely-anticipated GTA 6 set to launch a week after our live show, the 44th annual Golden Joystick Awards is delighted to share its most diverse and creative nominees line-up yet.” TechRadar

BAFTA: the window includes the date, but entry still matters
BAFTA’s 2027 rules apply to games released in the UK during the stated eligibility window. GTA VI’s announced November 19 date falls on the window’s final day. For games releasing after July 31, the entry deadline is November 6, before the announced launch; BAFTA also says its Games Committee decides category eligibility.
