Usually, if you already pay for JioFiber and own the PC, playing YouTube locally is cheaper on an incremental-cost basis—provided the PC’s added electricity cost is less than the monthly charge for the specific cloud service you mean. There is no responsible universal rupee answer: your PC’s measured power draw, viewing hours, electricity tariff, and the cloud service’s current price determine the result.
Here, “cloud streaming” means using a cloud-hosted computer to play YouTube, not cloud gaming. JioPC is a cloud computer; JioGames Cloud is a game service, not an alternative way to watch ordinary YouTube on a working local PC.
What counts as a fair cost comparison?
Compare the extra cost caused by this viewing choice, not every bill associated with your household. If you already have JioFiber for other household use and would keep it either way, its existing monthly bill is not a YouTube-only cost. Likewise, a spare PC you already own is a sunk purchase for this decision; count its added electricity use, and any maintenance or upgrade costs only if this activity actually causes them.
Jio describes JioFiber as home Wi-Fi for services including YouTube and OTT applications, but that provider description does not establish availability, sustained speed, or applicable terms at a particular address. Check the address-specific offer and terms on JioFiber’s service page.

Calculate the spare PC’s added electricity cost
Use the average power draw at the wall while the PC is playing YouTube, rather than a generic wattage for an “office PC” or “gaming PC.” Include the display only if it is switched on for this activity and would otherwise be off.
- Measure average draw. Record the PC’s average wall power in watts during representative YouTube playback. If the display is part of the setup, measure or add its draw too. No reading for your specific PC or display is available here, so a household cost cannot be estimated without measuring.
- Estimate monthly energy. Multiply average watts by monthly viewing hours, then divide by 1,000 to get kilowatt-hours (kWh):
(watts ÷ 1,000) × hours. - Apply your marginal electricity rate. Multiply the kWh figure by the per-unit rate that applies to the additional consumption in your household. Use your bill or tariff information; the applicable rate can depend on location and billing structure.
The resulting local-PC estimate is:
(P ÷ 1,000) × H × R + B
- P is measured average PC power in watts while playing YouTube, including the display only if used for this activity.
- H is viewing hours per month.
- R is your marginal electricity price per kWh.
- B is the incremental monthly broadband cost caused by this choice. Use zero if JioFiber is already paid for and would be retained anyway.
This is a calculation method, not a measured result or a national average. It does not assign a value to PC maintenance or upgrades because those costs vary and are not established for your household.

How JioFiber changes the comparison
If choosing local YouTube playback would make you buy a connection or upgrade a plan, include only the extra broadband cost caused by that decision. Jio’s reviewed comparison pages show examples—not universal India tariffs—of prepaid plans at ₹399 + GST per month for up to 30 Mbps and ₹699 + GST per month for up to 100 Mbps, and postpaid plans at ₹599 + GST per month for up to 30 Mbps and ₹899 + GST per month for up to 100 Mbps. The pages also show plans advertised at up to 150 Mbps for ₹999 + GST per month. Prices, speeds, validity and bundled benefits depend on the plan and address; confirm current details for your location in Jio’s prepaid comparison, postpaid comparison and, for an example of how local listings can differ, its Sunderbani plan page.
Some JioFiber plans list a YouTube Premium benefit, but it is not included across all plans. Jio’s OTT information says eligible benefits are for selected plans, require activation through MyJio, and can be used on other devices with two concurrent screens. It describes the offer as a one-time two-year subscription, so check current eligibility and terms in the JioFiber OTT-app information before assigning it a value. A plan benefit is not the same thing as a cloud computer for playing YouTube.

What “cloud streaming” could mean
Cloud-hosted computer
Reliance describes JioPC as a cloud computer that can turn a screen into a personal computer, with a monthly-subscription, pay-as-you-go model. The cited company release does not state a current subscription price or detailed usage limits. Without the price and terms for the service you would actually use, the cloud side of the cost comparison cannot be calculated reliably. Cloud gaming
JioGames Cloud is for playing games on supported devices, not for ordinary YouTube playback on a working PC. Reliance’s July 2025 release described access to 500+ game titles at that time; that figure is neither a YouTube catalogue nor a guarantee of the service’s current offering. Its game service is not a like-for-like substitute in this comparison.

Decide with your own numbers
- Write down the actual monthly charge for the cloud-computer service and plan you are considering. If you cannot confirm the current price and limits, treat the cloud cost as unknown rather than guessing.
- Calculate local playback’s electricity cost using measured wall draw, realistic monthly hours and your marginal tariff.
- Set the broadband increment to zero if the household would retain its existing JioFiber plan anyway. If this choice causes a purchase or upgrade, include only that added monthly amount.
- Compare the local-PC total with the cloud service’s charge, adding any cloud-side device or network costs only if you would actually incur them.
Local playback is cheaper when its incremental electricity and broadband costs together are lower than the cloud option’s actual incremental cost. Cloud use may still make sense for reasons beyond price, such as not having a suitable local device, but the available sources do not establish a universal performance or reliability advantage for either option at a particular home.
