1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteRestream is the more direct choice if you want to upload a recording, schedule it for YouTube, and repeat it automatically within a defined time limit. Its documented loop feature allows up to 10 plays and a maximum 40-hour stream. Switchboard Live can relay prerecorded video, but the playback must come from a compatible encoder; its cited FAQ does not document hosted scheduling or native looping for those files.
Neither service’s cited documentation establishes unattended, indefinite playback of one video. If that is the goal, consider StreamNeo first: it runs uploaded videos continuously from the cloud, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free. See StreamNeo.
Which service fits a pre-recorded YouTube loop?
Choose Restream for a hosted, scheduled recording that starts automatically and can repeat within its documented limits. Choose Switchboard Live if you already use an encoder for prerecorded playback and want Switchboard to manage destinations. These are different workflows: Restream hosts the scheduled prerecorded event; Switchboard relays an encoder’s outgoing feed and says it does not store prerecorded videos.
This comparison is based on the vendors’ help documentation checked October 3, 2026, not hands-on testing. Feature limits and prices can change, so confirm the current terms before committing.

How Restream’s scheduled loop works
Restream documents a workflow for turning a recording into a scheduled live event. The event can be posted in advance on YouTube, according to its guide.
- Create a new stream and choose Pre-recorded livestream, then choose Video.
- Select an existing upload or recording, or upload a file.
- Enter the event title, description, date, and time.
- Set the loop count if the plan supports looping, and optionally choose a thumbnail.
- Select YouTube and any other desired channels, then create the event.
Restream says the event airs automatically at its scheduled time. Some end platforms may still require a manual Go Live action after Restream starts; its guide gives TikTok and Instagram as examples. Do not assume every selected destination behaves like YouTube.

Loop and playlist limits
The Restream looping guide, dated March 11, 2026, describes up to 10 repetitions and a maximum stream duration of 40 hours. Its scheduling guide says looping is available on Marathon and Media add-ons. Those are finite limits, not documentation for a continuous 24/7 loop.
Restream playlists do not themselves support looping, according to the looping guide. It describes duplicating videos in a playlist instead, up to the stated 40-video playlist limit. Confirm that the resulting runtime and event setup meet your needs.

How Switchboard Live handles prerecorded video
Switchboard’s documented path starts with a separate playback-capable encoder. Its FAQ names OBS, Ecamm, and Switcher Studio as software that supports streaming from prerecorded video. The encoder plays and sends the video; Switchboard relays the feed to configured destinations.
- In Switchboard, create a workflow and note that workflow’s server URL and stream key.
- Configure a compatible encoder to play the prerecorded file and send its stream to the Switchboard workflow using RTMP.
- Add YouTube and any other destinations to the workflow, then start playback from the encoder.
Each workflow has its own server URL and stream key. Switchboard’s FAQ identifies RTMP as its currently supported ingest protocol and says streams are not stored or archived by Switchboard. The cited FAQ does not establish a hosted scheduler or native repeat control for prerecorded files, so arrange playback and any repeats in the encoder workflow rather than assuming Switchboard provides them.

Which workflow should you use?
- Choose Restream when the important steps are uploading a recording, scheduling its start, and repeating it up to the documented limits.
- Choose Switchboard when you already want an encoder-driven production workflow and need its destination management; the encoder remains responsible for playback.
- Choose neither on these facts alone if you need one uploaded video to run indefinitely without an encoder or repeated manual setup. The cited documentation does not establish that capability for either service.
Restream plan figures shown in the documentation
The Restream scheduling guide accessed October 3, 2026 listed the following add-on tiers and allowances. These are vendor-published figures from that date, not guaranteed current checkout prices.
| Tier listed | Price shown | Video library | Resolution shown | Looping |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premier | $39/month | 2 hours | 1080p | Not listed as supporting looping in the guide |
| Marathon | $79/month | 4 hours | 1080p | Yes |
| Media | $239/month | 12 hours | 4K | Yes |
The guide says recorded-video streaming is available to all Restream users, while file size and storage limits depend on the add-on tier. Because plan packaging and prices are volatile, verify what is included on Restream’s checkout page before purchase.

What to verify before scheduling
- Runtime: Calculate the video duration multiplied by its planned plays; the documented Restream maximum is 40 hours.
- Plan access: Confirm the current Restream add-on, library allowance, and looping availability for your account.
- YouTube event details: Check the selected channel, scheduled date and time, event title, description, and thumbnail before creating the event.
- Video rights and channel rules: Make sure you have rights to the recording and its audio, and that the stream complies with YouTube’s copyright and channel policies. Neither vendor’s workflow overrides those rules.
- Destination behavior: Confirm whether each non-YouTube platform needs a manual action after the stream starts.
- Playback ownership: With Switchboard, ensure the encoder is configured to play and send the file; the Switchboard relay is not documented as a file host or player.
Common problems and what to check
The Restream event does not repeat
Check whether the account has a looping-enabled add-on and whether a loop count was selected. The guide documents looping for Marathon and Media; it does not establish looping as part of Premier.
The scheduled event starts, but another destination is not live
Check that the channel was selected and whether that platform requires a manual Go Live action. Restream specifically notes that some end platforms can require one.
A Switchboard workflow receives no prerecorded video
Check that the encoder is playing the file, uses the workflow’s own server URL and stream key, and sends via RTMP. The documented prerecorded playback originates in the compatible encoder.
The loop stops earlier than expected
For Restream, compare the total planned duration with the 40-hour maximum and the repeat count with the 10-play limit. For Switchboard, the cited FAQ does not document a native loop count; check the encoder’s playback and repeat settings.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded videos without leaving a computer or encoder running at home, StreamNeo is built for that workflow: upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops from the cloud and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
