The best alternative depends on what you mean by “looping a YouTube playlist.” For a YouTube Live broadcast made from prerecorded files, StreamNeo is the cloud-hosted option to consider first: it streams uploaded videos or playlists to YouTube without keeping your computer on, at one flat price per slot for any quality up to 4K 60fps, and the first day is free. For a local setup, OBS Studio with its VLC Video source can play and loop a playlist while your computer stays in the broadcast chain. If you only want a playlist to repeat for someone watching YouTube, use YouTube’s built-in loop control; that does not create a live stream.
Choose the workflow that matches your goal
| Option | What it does | Playlist and loop support | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Hosts uploaded prerecorded videos or playlists and streams them to YouTube Live. | StreamNeo describes cloud looping of uploaded video and playlists. | Vendor-described, YouTube-only service. The local computer does not need to stay on. See StreamNeo for current terms. |
| OBS Studio with VLC Video | Uses a local computer as an encoder to broadcast local media. | OBS documents a VLC Video source that supports playlists and a Loop Playlist control, on by default. | VLC must be installed, and the computer and its internet connection remain part of the live workflow. OBS Media Sources |
| YouTube player | Repeats a playlist for someone watching YouTube. | YouTube Help documents a Loop control for playlists. | Viewer playback only; it does not broadcast the playlist as a live stream. YouTube Help |
| Restream | Schedules prerecorded video streams. | A single prerecorded video can repeat up to 10 times; playlists do not loop. | The cited Help Center articles describe playlists up to 24 hours and 40 videos, with access tied to an Upload & Stream add-on tier. Single-video looping; playlists |
| StreamYard | Provides a hosted production studio with video clips. | Its help article says clips can loop until manually stopped. | The documentation concerns a studio clip, not unattended continuous looping of a playlist. StreamYard Help |
Switchboard’s cited documentation covers RTMP-compatible encoder connections and destination distribution. It does not establish a particular Switchboard playlist-loop feature or a feature-by-feature migration path, so the alternatives here are compared by their documented workflows rather than assumed feature parity. See Switchboard’s encoder documentation and destination documentation.
Best for unattended YouTube Live loops: StreamNeo
StreamNeo is the closest fit if you want prerecorded files to keep running as a YouTube Live stream while your computer is off. The service says you can upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; playback then runs in the cloud. This is StreamNeo’s description of its own service, not an independent performance assessment. Its guide, published July 3, 2026 and updated September 19, 2026, describes a 24-hour trial and 10 GB storage; check the current service terms for trial and plan details: how to loop a video on YouTube Live.
Each slot includes one always-on YouTube stream, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, support from the StreamNeo team, and 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots. Uploaded quality is retained up to 4K 60fps without re-encoding, and there are no quality tiers. The same product is available across billing lengths; the difference is duration. UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support.

Best local alternative: OBS Studio with VLC Video
If you want to broadcast video files from a computer you control, OBS documents a VLC Video source that can load a playlist and loop it. VLC must be installed. OBS’s Loop Playlist option defaults to on, so confirm it is enabled if the playlist should repeat. This is an encoder workflow, not cloud hosting: the computer, OBS, and its internet connection remain necessary for the stream to continue. See the OBS Media Sources guide for the source’s documented controls.

Set up a local playlist loop
- Install VLC on the computer that will run the broadcast, then open OBS Studio.
- Add a VLC Video source to the scene and use its playlist controls to add the local video files you want to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist and check the playlist order and media files before going live.
- Connect OBS to the YouTube Live broadcast using the stream details provided by YouTube. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Start the stream in OBS and verify the live playback in YouTube Studio or the public player. Leave the computer and network connection running for as long as the broadcast should continue.
OBS’s cited media-source documentation establishes playlist playback and looping, but it does not promise that a local stream will continue if the computer or connection goes offline.
If you only want a playlist to repeat in YouTube
For ordinary viewer playback, open the YouTube playlist and use its Loop control. YouTube’s documented option repeats the playlist in the player; it does not turn the videos into a YouTube Live broadcast. Follow YouTube Help’s playlist-loop instructions for the player.

Where Restream fits—and where it does not
Restream separates looping one scheduled prerecorded video from playing a playlist. Its Help Center says an individual video can repeat up to 10 times, with a maximum 40-hour stream, while playlist looping is unsupported. Its playlist feature is documented for playlists up to 24 hours and 40 videos, and availability is tied to an Upload & Stream add-on tier. These are Restream-published limits in articles dated March 11, 2026 and July 25, 2026, respectively; confirm current eligibility and terms before relying on them. Sources: video looping and playlist streaming.
That makes Restream a possible fit for a finite scheduled playlist or a repeated single video, not a playlist that must loop continuously. Its playlist feature should not be treated as equivalent to an always-on looping service.

Copyright and channel-policy checks before going live
Having permission to stream a file is essential. A video being available online, purchased, or included in a playlist does not by itself establish that you may rebroadcast its video or audio. Check rights for every asset, including music, game footage, clips, and any third-party material, before putting it into a continuous stream. Continuous prerecorded programming also needs to provide value consistent with YouTube’s channel monetization policies if monetization matters to you; a technical loop does not guarantee monetization eligibility. Review YouTube’s current policies and any rights-holder requirements before scheduling a long-running broadcast.
Cost and operational trade-offs
- Cloud hosting: StreamNeo’s price is per slot and is the same across qualities up to 4K 60fps; the computer need not stay on. Account for its storage allowance per slot and your chosen billing period.
- Local encoding: OBS with VLC avoids a hosted playback service, but the computer and internet connection have to remain available. Power use, hardware availability, and connection reliability are practical costs even when the software itself is the chosen encoder.
- Scheduled playlist service: Restream’s documented playlist limits and add-on eligibility may rule it out for an unending loop; its single-video repeat limit is a separate capability.
- Viewer loop: YouTube’s player control costs no encoder setup, but only repeats playback for the viewer and is not a live channel broadcast.
For planning an upload, StreamNeo offers an upload-time calculator and a cloud vs. PC cost calculator. Use the copyright safety checklist to review rights-related questions before streaming.

Common problems and fixes
- The playlist plays once and stops: In OBS, check that the VLC Video source is using the intended playlist and that Loop Playlist is enabled. For Restream, playlist looping is not supported; the documented individual-video repeat feature is separate.
- The stream stops when you leave the computer: A local OBS workflow depends on that computer and its connection. Use a hosted workflow if the computer must be off.
- The YouTube player repeats but no live broadcast appears: The YouTube Loop control is for watching a playlist, not transmitting it as a live stream. Use an encoder or hosted streaming service for a broadcast.
- A hosted playlist feature is unavailable: Check the service’s current plan and add-on eligibility. Restream’s cited playlist documentation ties access to an Upload & Stream tier.
- A stream drops or content is blocked: Check YouTube Studio for stream status and rights-related notices, then verify that the stream key and media permissions are valid. A platform or rights-holder restriction cannot be fixed by enabling playlist repeat.
