You can technically run a continuous YouTube feed of League of Legends match VODs, but you should not start by setting up an encoder. Riot’s policy expressly rejects simply reusing esports matches or other players’ VODs with only light commentary. Get permission for every recording and its audio first; then build a stream that adds substantial original value. A 24-hour session also has archive and rewind limitations on YouTube.
Can you rebroadcast League of Legends match VODs?
Only if you have the rights that apply to the specific footage and other content in the feed. The fact that a VOD can be found online, or that an encoder or cloud service can send it to YouTube, does not grant permission to rebroadcast it.
Riot Games’ Legal Jibber Jabber policy allows certain community uses under its conditions, but it specifically says: “Don’t just rip off or add some light commentary to existing content (e.g., esports matches, other players’ vods).” Riot’s Terms of Service treat game recordings and broadcasts as Game Content and restrict its use except as Riot permits. Regional publisher terms can differ. These general rules do not determine who owns or controls any particular tournament broadcast, player recording, or VOD.
Clear each part of the feed
Before you schedule anything, identify the source and rights holder for every recording. Check the applicable terms and obtain and retain permission covering the intended use, including continuous livestreaming on YouTube. Check broadcast audio, music, commentary, graphics, and other included material as well as the gameplay footage. Event or regional rules may apply in addition to Riot’s general policy.

YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation of the livestream content, including music rights. YouTube also scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. It may warn you to stop streaming that material; a stream can be terminated following copyright or Community Guidelines strikes. Do not treat a successful test stream as proof that the content is cleared.
Make the format meaningfully original
Rights clearance and originality are separate questions. If you have permission to use the footage, build a viewer-facing reason to watch beyond seeing the same match replayed: for example, substantial tactical analysis or educational commentary. Light commentary over a replay loop is specifically at odds with Riot’s stated policy, and adding analysis does not itself settle copyright or licensing.

YouTube separately reviews reused content for meaningful original commentary, substantial modification, or educational or entertainment value. Its monetization policy also excludes repetitive or mass-produced content. On July 15, 2025, YouTube said it was renaming its repetitious-content policy to “inauthentic content” and clarifying that repetitive or mass-produced material is ineligible for monetization; it said its reused-content policy was not changing. A bare playlist that repeats match VODs is therefore a poor monetization proposition even if you have separately resolved the rights question.
Riot’s policy describes limited exceptions for qualifying individual community projects, including passive ad revenue, and for gameplay streams with donations or subscriptions where free concurrent access is provided. Those exceptions do not remove Riot’s originality requirements or YouTube’s separate monetization rules. Do not assume eligibility or revenue.

Set up the YouTube stream, once rights are clear
YouTube supports encoder-based gameplay streams. Its basic workflow is to create a stream in Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into an encoder, check the preview, and start sending. The encoder’s job is to deliver the feed; it cannot grant rights to the VODs.
- Prepare a cleared source. Assemble only footage and audio you are authorized to use. Keep the relevant permissions and event-specific rules with the files so you can confirm what each item covers.
- Create the live stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Use YouTube’s encoder workflow and copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream.
- Configure your encoder or playout service. Enter the YouTube stream URL and key in the encoder’s YouTube destination settings, then select the authorized video playlist or recording. The exact controls depend on the encoder; the cited YouTube setup workflow does not establish universal bitrate, resolution, keyframe, or encoder values for every source and connection.
- Check the preview before going live. Confirm that the intended video and audio are present and that the feed is reaching Live Control Room. Keep the stream key private: it is the credential that lets an encoder send to your channel.
- Start the feed and monitor it. Watch for interruptions and audio or video problems rather than assuming a continuous playlist will run unattended. YouTube’s setup advice also emphasizes monitoring stream quality and checking local archive files.
Plan session length, archives, and recovery
A 24-hour uninterrupted session is not the same as a guaranteed 24-hour archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours.

If viewers need an archive or rewind, consider keeping a local recording and planning shorter sessions rather than relying on one continuous 24-hour broadcast. YouTube does not promise that any particular segmented schedule will guarantee complete archiving. Check local recording files and monitor the live feed so you can identify a gap or failed recording.
