Before you prepare the stream
Confirm YouTube Live access
YouTube requires the channel to be verified and free of live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming and confirm access well before the planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
Get permission for the actual broadcast
Check that you have permission to livestream each video and its audio, including the music, in the territories where viewers may watch. Possessing a file or having permission for private playback does not necessarily grant public-broadcast rights. If you plan to keep or publish an archive, confirm that your permission covers that use too.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the broadcast with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate it. Even if you have a license, a rights holder may need to allowlist your channel in Content ID to avoid an interruption. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights.

Prepare and loop the video
Use one video or a playlist
- Put the Gurbani video files you are authorized to broadcast somewhere the encoder can access reliably. Keep filenames and playlist order clear.
- For a single file, add it as a media source in your encoder and enable looping for that source.
- For multiple files, use a playlist-capable source, add the files in the intended order and enable playlist looping.
- Test playback through the end of a file and back to the start, and check that both picture and sound continue through transitions.
Looping control names vary by encoder and version. Consult the current documentation for the software you choose; the YouTube instructions cover connecting an encoder, not the specific controls in OBS.
Connect the encoder to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or select the live stream.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown there into the matching encoder settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish or share it.
- Start streaming from the encoder. Wait for the incoming feed to appear in the Live Control Room preview.
- Inspect the preview for the correct video, sound and playlist behavior. Start the event from Live Control Room when the current setup requires it, then confirm the public stream is playing.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the server URL and stream-key workflow. Keep an eye on the stream health indicator and the actual playback, not just the encoder’s “streaming” status.

Plan network capacity and ongoing monitoring
YouTube recommends upload capacity with 20% headroom above the total bitrate of the stream. For example, if your encoder sends a total bitrate of 5 Mbps, aim for at least 6 Mbps of sustained upload capacity. Other network use can consume that margin, so avoid relying on a connection that only just meets the stream bitrate.
A 24/7 local stream depends on the computer, media files, power, encoder and internet staying available. Check image, audio, stream health and playlist transitions during operation, and have a plan to restore the feed after a network or equipment failure. Do not rely on YouTube for a complete 24-hour archive
YouTube can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a continuous 24/7 broadcast is not a dependable way to create a full replay. If you need a complete recording, make a separate local archive and confirm that your rights permit retaining it. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
