You can keep an Indian-music YouTube channel live around the clock by sending a continuous feed from an encoder to YouTube’s Live Control Room. For a do-it-yourself setup, use YouTube’s recommended RTMPS connection, choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain, and arrange monitoring and recovery. A continuous broadcast is technically supported, but it is not guaranteed to stay connected—and you need the necessary rights to every recording and composition before you stream.

Clear the music rights before you configure the stream

“Indian music” covers many kinds of recordings and rights arrangements. Before scheduling a stream, confirm that you have permission for both the composition and the specific sound recording, for your intended platforms, territories, and continuous live use. Owning a track or being able to play it through a consumer music service does not establish permission to retransmit it. An unlisted or private test does not establish those rights either.

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including content from other broadcasts. If it identifies material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop using it; if the material remains, the stream can be interrupted or terminated. A license alone may not prevent an interruption: YouTube says a licensed creator should ask the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

YouTube for Artists advises: “If you’re planning on using copyright-protected music during your live stream, we recommend coordinating with your label or distributor to avoid any issues, such as copyright strikes.” Contact the relevant label, distributor, publisher, or recording owner about permissions and allowlisting before launch: YouTube for Artists: Going Live for Music Channels.

Copyright clearance is separate from whether a channel or stream qualifies for monetization. The setup steps below do not determine that eligibility.

Check that the channel can go live

YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Its music guidance says to enable live streaming by verifying at least 24 hours before the planned start. Check eligibility and enable the feature early in YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance; do not leave channel verification until launch day.

Choose an encoder and a connection you can keep running

A local encoder sends the audio and video feed over your internet connection to YouTube. For a 24/7 broadcast, the encoder, its power, and the network route must remain available, and someone or some alerting process needs to notice and respond if they fail. YouTube describes a continuous 24/7 broadcast as a supported use case in its broadcasts and streams API documentation; that example does not promise uninterrupted service.

Use a reliable connection and measure its sustained upload capacity rather than choosing a bitrate based only on the speed advertised by an internet plan. YouTube recommends at least 20% upload headroom above the total outgoing bitrate. If you send a primary and backup stream at the same time, include both in that total. Shared home or office traffic can reduce the bandwidth actually available to the encoder. A wired Ethernet connection between a nearby encoder computer and router is one practical option, not a guarantee against dropouts. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Create the broadcast and connect with RTMPS

  1. Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the live stream. The channel must already be eligible to go live.
  2. Copy the ingest details. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in the encoder’s streaming or server settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it on screen, share it publicly, or include it in a public recording.
  3. Select RTMPS where the encoder supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP over an encrypted TLS/SSL connection. For the developer ingestion endpoint, Google specifies an RTMPS protocol URL, a valid ingestion endpoint and application path, and port 443. Use the endpoint and key shown for your broadcast rather than guessing or editing the URL. See Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide and YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
  4. Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm that YouTube receives the feed and that the picture and sound are correct before you make the broadcast public. Keep Live Control Room open during the test so you can see stream-health messages.

RTMPS encrypts the connection; it does not by itself make the stream stable. The connection, encoder, power, chosen bitrate, and recovery plan still matter.

Set the video format and bitrate for the connection

YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and a keyframe interval no longer than four seconds. Use a format your encoder supports and verify that its output matches the resolution and frame rate you selected for the broadcast.

Video target in YouTube’s guidance H.264 video bitrate
720p at 60 fps 6 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 12 Mbps

These are YouTube’s listed H.264 recommendations, not a promise that a particular internet connection will sustain them. For example, a 12 Mbps video feed needs more than 12 Mbps of available upload under YouTube’s 20% headroom recommendation; allow for audio and any simultaneous backup feed too. If your measured connection cannot reliably support the target, lower the output bitrate or choose a lower resolution or frame rate, then test again. A feed that repeatedly falls behind or disconnects is not improved by selecting a higher resolution.

Test continuity and plan for recovery

Run a test before relying on the setup. YouTube recommends testing backup-encoder rollover by stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable, then checking whether the player moves to the backup. Treat this as a test of your particular configuration, not proof that failover will work in production.

  • Use an unlisted test to check audio levels, video, preview, connection, and YouTube’s stream-health messages. Keep the test rights-cleared; unlisted status does not exempt music from copyright scanning.
  • If you have a backup encoder or network path, test the actual transition and confirm that the feed resumes as expected.
  • Decide who will respond to an encoder crash, power loss, network disruption, or copyright warning. YouTube advises continuous monitoring; a named operator or alerting arrangement is a practical way to handle that responsibility.
  • After launch, monitor the live dashboard rather than assuming that a stream which started successfully will remain healthy.

Plan separately for replays and archives

A live broadcast and a complete replay are different deliverables. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not rely on a single 24-hour broadcast to produce a complete YouTube replay. If viewers need replayable segments, make a separate local recording and plan how to divide or preserve the ongoing broadcast. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

YouTube’s API documentation describes an API-oriented arrangement in which a continuously live broadcast and a separate, shorter broadcast can be bound to the same incoming stream. That is an example for API workflows, not a general promise that every encoder or channel can use the same arrangement.

What to check when a stream will not stay connected

Symptom Likely area to check What to do
Encoder cannot connect; RTMPS reports an SSL error or times out Ingest URL, endpoint, port, or encoder support Confirm that the URL is the RTMPS endpoint shown for the broadcast, that the host and application path are correct, and that the encoder supports RTMPS. For Google’s documented developer endpoint, check the RTMPS URL and port 443 requirements.
Stream health degrades or the feed disconnects under load Insufficient or variable upload capacity Measure upload while the connection is in use. Reduce the output bitrate or video target until it is sustainable, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and include any simultaneous backup stream in the calculation.
Video arrives but the picture or sound is wrong Encoder output format or settings Check the selected codec, resolution, frame rate, CBR setting, and keyframe interval against YouTube’s encoder guidance. Review the preview and health messages during a test.
Stream stops after a warning or placeholder appears Third-party content match Stop using the matched material and contact the relevant rights owner, label, or distributor about permission and Content ID allowlisting. A license does not necessarily prevent interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.
Broadcast is live but the replay is incomplete or missing Broadcast duration and archive plan Do not count on YouTube to archive a stream longer than 12 hours. Use a separate local recording plan if a complete replay matters.
