Restream’s documented pre-recorded workflow schedules an existing video; its Music controls are for Restream Studio playback, and the help pages do not say those controls add a track to an uploaded video’s audio.
Choose the right music workflow
| Method | Best for | How music is controlled |
|---|---|---|
| Mix music into the video before upload | Music that should be part of the whole pre-recorded video | Set timing and levels in your video-editing software, then upload the finished file to Restream. Restream documents file requirements, not an in-product audio-mixing feature. |
| Play music in Restream Studio | A Studio stream in which music is played during the broadcast | Choose built-in music or upload custom tracks in Studio, then control playback and volume there. This is not documented as a way to edit an already uploaded pre-recorded video. |
Restream’s pre-recorded event instructions have you select a video file and schedule it. Its separate music instructions describe Studio playback. Keep those workflows distinct: if the scheduled video itself needs music from start to finish, prepare that mix before uploading. See Restream’s pre-recorded event instructions, its built-in music guide and custom music guide.
Mix the music into your video
- Choose music you can use. Confirm that you own the track or have permission covering the intended YouTube use. If you use Restream’s music, review its current music licensing terms and include the required attribution.
- Open the video in an editor. Import the footage and music track, then place the music beneath the original audio if you want both. Trim or loop the track to cover the desired section.
- Balance the audio. Lower the music so speech, game audio or other important sounds remain clear. Preview the mix from beginning to end, checking transitions, silence, clipping and the final fade. These are editing steps outside Restream; its cited pre-recorded documentation does not describe a built-in mixer.
- Export and check the finished file. Restream lists MP4, MOV, M4V and MKV containers, H.264 video, AAC audio and keyframe 2 as mandatory requirements for pre-recorded videos. Verify the export settings and, if possible, play the exported file to confirm the music is present and synchronized. See Restream’s pre-recorded video requirements.
Restream’s separate YouTube streaming guidance recommends AAC or MP3 audio, 128 Kbps for stereo or 384 Kbps for 5.1 surround, and a 44.1 kHz sample rate for stereo or 48 kHz for 5.1. Those are YouTube stream recommendations, not a replacement for Restream’s mandatory pre-recorded upload requirements. Check the distinction in Restream’s YouTube settings guide.
Schedule the pre-recorded event to YouTube
- From the Restream home screen, select + New Stream.
- Choose Pre-recorded livestream, then Video.
- Select a file from Uploads or Recordings, or upload the finished video from your device. Restream calls uploading videos to its storage for pre-recorded events “Upload & Stream”; see What is Upload & Stream?
- Enter the event details, such as title, description, date and time.
- Continue, enable YouTube among the channels, and create the event.
- Restream says the video event airs automatically at the scheduled time. You can monitor it while it airs.
Restream also documents scheduling a playlist. For the current scheduling flow, see Schedule your video as a pre-recorded event and Schedule your stream with Restream.

Use Studio music only for a Studio stream
If your broadcast uses Restream Studio rather than an already prepared pre-recorded video, select Music in Studio to choose built-in music by genre or mood and control playback and volume. For a custom track, upload it to Studio’s Custom area; Restream says you can play, seek, loop, adjust volume and reorder tracks. Music assigned per scene is currently available only for Countdown scenes; otherwise, tracks can be selected and played across the stream. Read the current built-in music and custom music instructions.
Check music rights before going live
Restream strongly advises against uploading music you do not own or have a license to use, warning that platforms may shut down streams or impose strikes or penalties over unlicensed music. A track described as copyright-free or licensed is not a guarantee that it will never receive a platform claim.

Restream’s published music license allows use in multimedia projects, including YouTube videos and live streams, under an attribution license. It gives these example credits: “Music from Restream.io (https://restream.io/)” or “Music: “[Song Title]” from Restream.io”. The terms also prohibit, among other things, claiming the music as your own, registering it in a store or on a commercial platform, using it as a standalone track, or registering it with Facebook or YouTube Rights Manager. Read the live Restream music license and follow its current credit requirements. For a specific YouTube claim or dispute, consult YouTube’s current guidance; the Restream sources cited here do not establish the current enforcement or dispute process.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The scheduled video has no music. The Studio Music control is not documented as mixing audio into a stored pre-recorded file. Add the track in an editor, export a new file, and upload that version.
- Restream rejects the video. Check that its container is MP4, MOV, M4V or MKV, video is H.264, audio is AAC, and keyframe is 2, as required by Restream’s file requirements.
- The music ends too soon or overlaps important audio. Reopen the project, extend or loop the music as needed, adjust its level, and preview the complete export before replacing the uploaded video.
- You want music only during a Studio segment. Use the Studio Music controls and check their scene behavior; Restream says per-scene music is currently limited to Countdown scenes.
- You receive a copyright claim or warning. Check your license and attribution, and follow the platform’s current instructions for the specific notice. Do not assume that a license prevents every claim.
