Yes—YouTube Live supports 4K (2160p) at 60 fps and HDR, provided your source, encoder, and upload connection can deliver a compatible feed. But a regular YouTube playlist is not documented as a direct live-stream input. To broadcast a sequence of clips, play them through a production or playback system and send that program to YouTube Live with an encoder.
What “from a playlist” means
A YouTube playlist is a collection of videos, not a live encoder input in YouTube’s documented workflow. To make several clips part of one live broadcast, use a playback or production system to assemble and play them, then send the resulting program feed to YouTube Live through an encoder. YouTube’s encoder workflow is described at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder; its playlist documentation describes playlists as collections of videos at Create and manage playlists.
This distinction matters for HDR: the encoder receives the output of your playback or production chain. The clips, playback settings, encoder, and metadata all need to preserve compatible HDR for the live feed to be HDR.
Requirements for a 4K60 HDR live feed
Use a compatible HDR source
For a game, the game output and capture or playback path must provide HDR. For camera footage, the camera and production path need to output HDR in a format the encoder can handle. Pre-recorded clips need to be played through a compatible system; simply adding HDR videos to a YouTube playlist does not make the playlist an HDR live input. A capture card may help bring an external HDMI camera or console into a computer workflow, but it is not a universal requirement.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Match the encoder to YouTube’s HDR requirements
YouTube’s HDR guidance specifies HEVC (H.265), 10-bit video, and matching BT.2020 color metadata with either PQ (ST 2084) or HLG transfer characteristics. Its documented OBS setup uses a supported hardware HEVC encoder, Main 10 profile, P010 color format, and Rec. 2100 PQ or HLG color space; YouTube recommends HLG in that guide. Choose settings that match the actual source and encoder rather than labeling an SDR signal as HDR. See Stream HDR video on YouTube.
Choose an ingest protocol and resolution setting
YouTube supports RTMP(S) and HLS for HDR. Its HDR instructions say to leave “Turn on manual resolution” unchecked. Use the protocol your encoder supports and configure the output for 2160p60 only if the whole source-to-encoder chain can sustain it.

HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video in segments. YouTube’s HLS setup guidance specifies TS segments of 1–4 seconds and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, among other ingest requirements. These are protocol requirements for an HLS encoder workflow, not settings for a regular YouTube video playlist. Details: Set up an HLS stream.
Allow enough upload bandwidth
YouTube’s published 2160p60 encoder guidance lists 10–40 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 and recommends 35 Mbps for H.264. The H.264 figure is a recommendation, not the same kind of range as the AV1/H.265 figures. These are YouTube ingest settings, not a guarantee that a connection or encoder will sustain the stream reliably. Leave headroom beyond the selected video bitrate for network variation and audio, and test the complete chain before broadcasting. YouTube transcodes live streams for viewers on different devices and networks, but that does not remove the need for a stable upload feed. See Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Build the broadcast from clips
- Confirm the source. Check that the game, camera, or clips are genuinely HDR and that the playback or capture path preserves HDR rather than converting to SDR.
- Assemble the program. Play the clips in the production system that will feed the encoder. Verify transitions, audio, playback order, and that playback does not stop unexpectedly between clips.
- Create a YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, use the live-stream setup flow for an encoder and obtain the stream key. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Configure the encoder. Select RTMP(S) or HLS according to encoder support. For HDR, use HEVC, 10-bit output, and color metadata that matches the source: BT.2020 with PQ or HLG. In YouTube’s documented OBS HDR configuration, use a supported hardware HEVC encoder, Main 10, P010, and Rec. 2100 PQ or HLG. Leave “Turn on manual resolution” unchecked for the HDR workflow.
- Set the output and test. Select 2160p at 60 fps only when the source, encoder, and upload connection can maintain it. Use YouTube’s published codec-specific bitrate guidance, then test the stream in advance and check the encoder and Live Control Room for ingest or stability problems.
- Start the broadcast. Confirm the feed is arriving and the program is ready before starting the live event. Monitor the encoder and stream while the clips play; an uploaded playlist itself does not control the encoder or guarantee continuous playback.
What viewers will see
YouTube says supported devices receive HDR automatically; devices that do not support HDR receive SDR. HDR color is not shown in the Live Control Room preview, so the preview alone cannot verify the viewer’s HDR experience. Check playback on a supported HDR device after testing rather than relying only on the control-room image. YouTube’s stream archiving guidance is available at Archive live streams.
Equipment depends on your source
- HDR game from the same computer: use a game and capture/production path that preserve HDR, plus an encoder with supported hardware HEVC encoding and 10-bit output.
- External console or HDMI camera: a capture card may be needed to bring that signal into a computer-based production setup. Verify HDR, 2160p60, HDMI, and computer compatibility across the source, capture device, and encoder; no one device specification guarantees the complete chain.
- Pre-recorded clips: use a player or production system that can play the clips in order and output compatible HDR to the encoder. The playlist on YouTube is not a substitute for that live playback chain.

Troubleshooting
- The stream is SDR rather than HDR: check that the source is HDR and that the encoder outputs HEVC 10-bit with matching BT.2020 and PQ or HLG metadata. Confirm the receiving device supports HDR; YouTube serves SDR to unsupported devices.
- HDR colors look wrong: verify the transfer characteristic and color metadata match the source. PQ and HLG are alternatives; do not configure one while the source uses the other.
- 2160p60 drops frames or becomes unstable: check encoder load and upload stability, then reduce the output resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to a level the full chain can sustain. YouTube’s bitrate recommendations are not a promise of performance on a particular connection.
- The preview does not look HDR: YouTube’s Live Control Room preview does not show HDR colors. The preview alone is not a reliable HDR check.
- A YouTube playlist will not appear as an encoder source: use a playback or production system to play the clips and send its output to the encoder. The documented YouTube playlist feature is a video collection, not a live ingest source.
- An HLS stream has more delay: that is an expected trade-off of segmented HLS ingest compared with RTMP. If lower latency is important and your encoder supports it, consider RTMP(S).
