For a 24/7 Tamil video playlist, choose YouTube Live bitrate by the stream’s codec, resolution and frame rate—not by its language or location. A practical starting point is 1080p30 H.264 at YouTube’s recommended 14 Mbps, or 720p30 H.264 at 8 Mbps if your tested upload connection cannot reliably sustain the higher rate. Treat these as starting points, not guarantees: test the complete setup and monitor stream health while live.
Recommended bitrate settings
YouTube says its recommended bitrate ranges are based on the ingestion codec, resolution and frame rate. The figures below are YouTube’s published recommendations, not India-specific targets. Each cell shows minimum / recommended video bitrate.

For a playlist with mostly static visuals or modest motion, start by evaluating 30 fps. Higher frame rates can help preserve smooth motion but should be chosen only if the source, encoder and sustained upload capacity support them. Compare the actual picture and motion at the candidate settings; Tamil-language content does not require a distinct bitrate.
Configure the encoder
- Choose the source format. Select the resolution and frame rate you intend to send, then use the matching row in YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate table. Do not select a higher output resolution just to reach a bitrate number.
- Select a compatible codec. YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC) and AV1. Use the corresponding bitrate column only if your encoder and workflow support that codec.
- Set rate control to CBR. YouTube recommends constant bitrate for live ingestion.
- Set the keyframe interval to two seconds. YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Set audio deliberately. For stereo audio, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 and recommends 128 Kbps.
- Use RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS for the stream connection. Follow the encoder’s and YouTube Live Control Room’s current instructions for entering the stream URL and key; keep the key private.

Check upload capacity before going live
The total outgoing stream bitrate must fit within stable upload capacity. A speed test is only a snapshot; test the actual encoder and representative playlist content over time, including audio and moving scenes, before leaving a channel live continuously. YouTube’s streaming tips advise testing the setup and monitoring stream health. No India-specific upload rate is established in these sources, so choose based on the connection at the actual streaming location and its consistency—not a national or language-based assumption.
- If the connection struggles at 1080p30 H.264’s recommended 14 Mbps, test 720p30 H.264 at 8 Mbps or a lower resolution before committing.
- Leave headroom for normal network variation rather than planning around a peak speed-test result.
- A wired Ethernet connection can reduce one source of local wireless variability, but it does not increase your ISP’s upload capacity or guarantee a stable stream.
Plan for a stream that runs longer than 12 hours
Bitrate settings do not solve the separate problem of preserving a long broadcast. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If retaining a complete recording matters, plan a local archive backup and account for how you will handle stream restarts. Do not assume an uninterrupted 24-hour stream will produce a complete YouTube archive. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Clear rights for every playlist item
Before running a Tamil playlist continuously, confirm you have the necessary rights to every video and audio element, including music. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; if identified material remains in the broadcast, YouTube may interrupt or terminate it. Review the livestream terms and YouTube’s copyright guidance. A song being available online, or a video being described as devotional or traditional, does not by itself establish that you have permission to stream that particular recording or arrangement.
