First, identify when the error happens
Open YouTube Studio, go to Live Control Room, select the stream, and read the message beside its health indicator. Note the wording and timestamp. YouTube says an error can remain visible until it is fixed; its current documentation describes red errors as critical and yellow as moderate. Prioritize the specific message, since labels may be localized or change. See YouTube’s live streaming error messages.
- The encoder will not start: begin with the current stream key and the way Livepush connects to your YouTube channel.
- The stream is underway but health is poor: change the setting named in the warning, then check stream health again.
- The preview looks right but YouTube reports connection trouble: investigate the outbound connection and, if applicable, RTMPS settings.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API uses states such as active, created, error, inactive, and ready, and health statuses such as good, ok, bad, and noData. These describe state, not the cause by themselves; use the dashboard’s error details. See the Live Streaming API reference.
If Livepush cannot start the encoder
Refresh the stream key and update the encoder
YouTube’s first recommended fix for a third-party encoder startup error is to get a current stream key in Live Control Room, update the encoder with it, and try again. If you authenticate inside third-party software instead of entering a stream key, YouTube directs you to that software’s support team. Follow YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting steps.

- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and select the active event.
- Copy the current stream key for that event. Avoid relying on an old key saved in an encoder profile.
- In Livepush, check how the destination was set up, then update the relevant connection information.
- Save the destination and try starting the encoder again. Return to Live Control Room to see whether the stream arrives and whether a new health message appears.
Check which Livepush connection method you used
Livepush documents two YouTube setup routes: linking a Google/YouTube account, or manually entering a YouTube RTMP key. The steps differ, so verify the route rather than changing unrelated encoder settings.
- Linked account: confirm the channel is still linked. If it was unlinked, reconnect it, select the intended channel, and save the destination. The linked flow lets you select a channel and create or select a live event.
- Manual RTMP key: confirm the key belongs to the active YouTube event and was copied accurately into the Livepush destination. The manual route requires setting up events individually.

If YouTube receives the stream but flags its settings
Do not change every encoder setting at once. Find the warning’s category and correct that item, then check the health indicator again. YouTube’s error guide includes the wording “Your encoder is sending incorrect video settings.” Use its current error messages and recommendations for the precise warning.
Format and codecs
YouTube’s standard ingest configuration expects H.264 video and AAC audio. Unsupported audio or video codecs, a bad container, and mismatched profiles are also documented configuration error classes. Confirm the encoder’s output format and profile against the warning and YouTube’s current requirements.

Bitrate
For a fixed-resolution entry point, YouTube says the stream bitrate must match the value for the selected resolution in its encoder settings. If your available bandwidth cannot sustain the chosen resolution, lower the resolution and use the corresponding bitrate setting. YouTube’s error guide recommends 128 Kbps for audio. Do not substitute a generic video bitrate: use the current value for the resolution selected in Live Control Room.
Audio streams and channels
The ingest should contain exactly one audio stream. YouTube flags missing audio, multiple audio streams, and more than two channels; its guidance supports one or two audio channels. Check that the encoder is not sending a silent or duplicate track when the warning identifies an audio issue.

Video streams, resolution, and frame rate
The ingest should contain one video stream. YouTube identifies missing or multiple video streams, interlaced output, excessive frame rate, and a resolution mismatch as possible problems. Match the resolution selected in Ingestion Settings and use progressive video. If the warning names frame rate, check the encoder’s actual output rather than only its project or source settings.
Keyframes and GOP
YouTube recommends a keyframe every two seconds; at 30 fps, that is every 60 frames. It also flags keyframe intervals that are too long or short, open GOP, and other GOP-length problems. Set the interval to the value the warning expects and ensure the encoder is not using open GOP.

Primary and backup streams
If you configured failover streams, their settings must match. YouTube identifies codec, bitrate, resolution, frame rate, keyframe frequency, audio sample rate, and channel configuration as settings that need to align between primary and backup ingest.

Check the encoder preview, its CPU load or logs, and a local recording if available. These help distinguish an encoder that is producing bad audio or video from a stream that looks healthy locally but is not reaching YouTube reliably. If local output is healthy, test the strength of the outbound internet connection; YouTube recommends contacting your internet provider when a connection test identifies a problem. The right remedy depends on what the test shows.
RTMPS SSL errors, timeouts, or failed connections
- Confirm that the selected protocol and server URL match the current Live Control Room event.
- For an SSL error, use
rtmps, notrtmp; YouTube says port 443 may help for certain SSL errors. - For a timeout, verify the server URL and that the encoder supports RTMPS.
- Copy the current URL and key from the event rather than reusing values from another event.
