YouTube Studio can schedule and promote an upcoming live event, but scheduling alone does not start a prerecorded playlist. To make a playlist go live automatically at a chosen time, schedule the YouTube event and separately configure an encoder or cloud service that can play the playlist and start sending it on schedule. For 4K at 60 fps, YouTube lists a recommended H.264 bitrate of 35 Mbps, or 10–40 Mbps for AV1 or H.265/HEVC.
What YouTube scheduling does—and what it does not do
A scheduled event creates an upcoming YouTube Live watch page that you can share and viewers can use to set reminders. The event is not the video feed: an encoder or streaming service still has to send video and audio to YouTube. YouTube’s auto-start setting concerns starting the stream from an encoder; it does not, by itself, schedule playlist playback. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide and live stream settings guide.
That means automatic playback requires a separate tool that can do both jobs at the right time: play the prerecorded videos in order and start the outgoing stream. Check the specific encoder or service documentation for both capabilities; the YouTube scheduler alone does not supply them.
How to schedule the event and automate the playlist
- Enable live streaming. Make sure the channel is eligible and live streaming is enabled. YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until the event day. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Create the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, open Manage, then choose Schedule stream. Reuse a previous stream’s settings or create a new stream. Set the title, description, audience, privacy and start time, then save the event. You can share its watch page to promote it and let viewers set reminders.
- Keep the stream connection details available. From the event’s stream settings, obtain the stream URL and stream key required by your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or include it in a screenshot. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Set up playlist playback in the encoder or service. Add the prerecorded videos in the desired order, configure the output for the scheduled YouTube event, and set the tool to start playback and streaming at the required time. Confirm that its schedule controls both playlist playback and the outgoing stream—not just one of them.
- Check YouTube’s auto-start behavior with your tool. YouTube describes the setting this way: “When these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from your encoder.” That is not evidence that a playlist will be queued or started automatically. Verify how the chosen software or service interacts with the setting before relying on it.
- Run a full-chain test. Use the actual event or an unlisted test event, with representative video motion and audio. Confirm that the encoder connects, the playlist advances, the Live Control Room preview appears, and the event is accessible with the intended privacy. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting encoders at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event. Monitor audio, video and stream health in Live Control Room. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.
- Promote the correct watch page. Share the scheduled event’s watch page, not a different stream’s URL, and verify the privacy setting. YouTube’s default privacy setting varies by creator age, and creators can change it.
4K 60fps encoder settings for YouTube Live
YouTube’s encoder settings guidance lists these 2160p at 60 fps ingest bitrates. They are settings for the feed sent to YouTube, not a promise that the source, encoder, network or viewers can sustain 4K60. Use a representative test and check the stream health.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Codec | YouTube guidance for 2160p at 60 fps |
|---|---|
| H.264 | 35 Mbps recommended |
| AV1 | 10 Mbps minimum; 40 Mbps maximum |
| H.265/HEVC | 10 Mbps minimum; 40 Mbps maximum |
For the rest of the encoder configuration, YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). At 4K, YouTube says the low-latency option is unavailable, so the stream uses normal latency. Follow the encoder’s current controls and YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions guidance.
Choosing software, a cloud service or hardware
Before choosing an encoder for an automatically starting playlist, verify these points in its current documentation:

YouTube’s verified encoder list includes the Osprey Video Talon, described as accepting sources up to true 4K and delivering feeds up to 4K60p. YouTube notes that verified encoders are not made by YouTube. This is an optional hardware encoding route, not a playlist scheduler: the listing does not establish that the Talon can queue videos or start a playlist on a schedule. Verify the device’s specifications and playlist-control compatibility before buying. YouTube’s encoder guide lists it under verified encoders.
Troubleshooting an automatic start
- The event page exists, but no video starts. The YouTube event schedules the watch page, not playlist playback. Check that the separate encoder or service is scheduled to play the videos and start its stream.
- The encoder connects, but the wrong event receives the feed. Check that the encoder is using the stream URL and key associated with the intended scheduled event. Replace an exposed key in YouTube Studio and update the encoder configuration.
- The event starts late or remains in preview. Check the encoder’s schedule, time zone and start action; confirm whether YouTube’s auto-start setting is enabled and supported by that tool. Allow time for the event preview and start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time, as YouTube recommends.
- The stream is unstable at 4K60. Check the encoder’s selected codec and bitrate, the source’s actual frame rate and resolution, and the available upload connection. Test at the intended settings and use Live Control Room’s stream health information rather than assuming a bitrate guarantees a stable feed.
- The playlist does not advance. Check the playlist order, file availability and the tool’s repeat or end-of-playlist behavior. YouTube’s event scheduler does not manage these playback controls.
- Viewers cannot open the event. Verify the event’s privacy and that you shared its actual watch page. Confirm the stream is active and visible in Live Control Room.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Before scheduling prerecorded material, confirm that you have the rights needed to stream every video, music track and other included element. A scheduled event does not change YouTube’s copyright or channel rules. Review the copyright safety checklist before putting a playlist on air.
