First check that your encoder is connecting to the right YouTube ingest endpoint using the matching transport—especially RTMPS with TLS, port 443 and hostname/SNI—then isolate Wi-Fi from the wired network and check Jio and YouTube diagnostics. A connection timeout is different from a stream that connects but later has dropped frames or a YouTube stream-health warning.
Identify what is timing out
Note the exact point where the failure occurs and save the encoder’s log message and timestamp. The distinction determines what to check next:
- Connection setup times out: the encoder does not establish a usable connection to YouTube’s ingest server. Check the endpoint, protocol, TLS/SNI and network path.
- Authentication or TLS fails: the connection reaches a stage where the stream key or secure connection is rejected. Check the key and RTMPS configuration rather than treating it as a dropped-frame problem.
- The stream connects, then becomes unhealthy or drops: investigate upload stability and encoding settings, and compare encoder logs with YouTube Live Control Room health. This is not the same symptom as an RTMPS handshake timeout.
Google for Developers recommends RTMPS and says: “Make sure that you’re creating an SSL connection, not a plain TCP connection.” Its RTMPS guidance describes TLS on port 443 and requires the endpoint hostname to be provided through SNI for server authentication. It also explains that a client sending cleartext RTMP to a server expecting RTMPS may connect and then time out without a sensible RTMP response. That symptom alone is not evidence of ISP filtering. Check the YouTube endpoint, transport and stream key
- Confirm the configured endpoint. In your encoder’s stream settings, compare the server URL with the RTMP or RTMPS ingest address supplied for the YouTube stream. Do not substitute an address from another service or assume that RTMP and RTMPS are interchangeable.
- Match the transport to that endpoint. If using YouTube’s RTMPS endpoint, make sure the encoder is making a TLS connection—not plain TCP followed by cleartext RTMP. Check that it uses the expected hostname and port 443.
- Check hostname/SNI support. RTMPS needs the endpoint hostname for TLS server authentication through SNI. If your encoder exposes TLS or SNI diagnostics, inspect them for handshake or certificate errors.
- Recheck the stream key. Confirm that the key entered in the encoder is the one associated with the intended YouTube stream. A transport handshake problem and an invalid or mismatched key are different failures; use the exact error and log to distinguish them.
If the settings appear correct but the encoder gives only a generic timeout, record its transport mode, server hostname, port and complete log output. Those details are more useful to YouTube or encoder support than the conclusion that JioFiber must be blocking traffic.

Separate Wi-Fi trouble from JioFiber or endpoint trouble
If the encoder is on Wi-Fi, test it over wired LAN where practical. Keep the encoder, YouTube endpoint, stream key and other settings unchanged so the access path is the variable you are testing.

Jio’s MyJio Run Diagnostics guidance says its flow checks home internet connectivity, router connectivity and health, and existing network outages. Run it and note the findings; use its assisted troubleshooting or raise a service request if it identifies an unresolved issue. Jio’s support material also recommends checking cables and switching between Wi-Fi and LAN when speed is lower than expected. A Cat 6 Ethernet patch cable may be useful if you need one to perform the comparison, but it cannot fix a wrong endpoint, TLS/SNI or key issue.

If YouTube connects but reports poor stream health
Once the stream connects, shift from handshake troubleshooting to encoding and sustained upload. YouTube recommends testing with audio and motion before an event and monitoring stream health while live. Use the bitrate entry matching your actual codec, resolution and frame rate; the figures below are YouTube recommendations, not measurements of JioFiber capacity.

YouTube also recommends running an upload speed test, but that result is not proof that a connection can sustain an uninterrupted 24/7 stream. YouTube’s Live Streaming API health documentation lists possible configuration issue classes including audio/video settings, bitrate, frame rate, codecs, keyframe frequency and primary/backup stream mismatches. Capture the exact health message instead of treating every warning as a network timeout. YouTube Live Streaming API: stream health.
Run the checks in order
- Write down the encoder’s exact error, when it occurs, and whether the stream ever appears as connected in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Verify the YouTube server URL and stream key in the encoder. Confirm that RTMP or RTMPS selection matches the configured endpoint.
- If using RTMPS, verify TLS to port 443 and hostname/SNI handling. Review encoder TLS diagnostics if available.
- Test on wired LAN if possible, keeping all stream settings the same. Compare the result with Wi-Fi and inspect cables.
- Run MyJio Run Diagnostics. Record its router, connectivity and outage findings; follow its troubleshooting flow or raise a service request if indicated.
- If the stream connects, test with representative audio and motion. Check the YouTube bitrate recommendation for the actual video settings, use the recommended two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and monitor Live Control Room health alongside encoder logs.
- For a 24/7 channel, keep timestamps and results over a meaningful observation period. A single successful connection or speed test cannot establish continuous capacity or prove that a stream will stay up.
What to collect before asking for help
- Encoder make, model or software version, and the exact error text.
- Whether the configured transport is RTMP or RTMPS; the endpoint hostname and port, without sharing your private stream key.
- Whether the encoder is on Wi-Fi or wired LAN, and whether changing only that connection changes the result.
- MyJio diagnostic findings and any service-request reference.
- Connection and disconnection timestamps, encoder logs, and YouTube Live Control Room health messages.
- If connection succeeds, the video resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate and keyframe interval.
Never post your stream key publicly or include it in a support message unless you are using a secure, trusted support channel. If you think the key has been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
