A continuously running 4K 60fps YouTube Live channel can cost about $623.14 per 730-hour month for compute in one illustrative Google Cloud L4 example, using its listed on-demand rate. At the listed Spot rate, the same arithmetic is about $355.19. Neither figure is an all-in bill: the cited GPU pricing excludes VM instance pricing, disk and images, and networking. Your actual total depends on the region, complete machine configuration, storage, and network charges.
What the cloud GPU estimate includes—and leaves out
The example is Google Cloud Compute Engine’s g2-standard-8 with one NVIDIA L4 GPU. Google’s accelerator-optimized pricing page lists $0.853624312 per hour on demand and a current Spot price of $0.486565857 per hour. Multiplying each rate by an assumed 730 hours gives the monthly compute estimates below. These are calculations from listed rates, not provider quotes or tested workload results.
| Billing basis | Listed hourly rate | 730-hour compute estimate | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| On demand | $0.853624312 | Approximately $623.14 | Compute example only; other billable components may apply. |
| Spot | $0.486565857 | Approximately $355.19 | Uses the current listed Spot rate; price and capacity are not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. |
Google Cloud says its GPU pricing page does not cover disk and images, networking, sole-tenant nodes pricing, or VM instance pricing. As a result, do not treat either monthly calculation as the cost of a complete running channel. Use Google Cloud’s GPU pricing page and current calculator to price the region and configuration you would actually deploy.
What determines the complete monthly bill?
- Full VM configuration and region: Confirm whether the price you are looking at covers only the accelerator or the whole machine, including its VM instance. Rates can vary by region and selected configuration.
- Storage and images: Add the cost of attached disks and images for the files and system you need to keep.
- Outbound networking: A continuous stream consumes network capacity and may incur transfer charges. Check the chosen machine’s egress limit as well as applicable network pricing.
- Runtime and continuity: A channel intended to run around the clock implies roughly continuous instance runtime. Restarts, planned maintenance, failover and downtime can change both billed hours and whether viewers see an uninterrupted stream.
- Billing mode: Spot lowers the cited example’s compute estimate, but variable price and capacity make it a poor basis for assuming uninterrupted service without a failover plan.
How much outbound bandwidth does 4K60 need?
YouTube Help recommends an ingest bitrate of 35 Mbps for 4K/2160p at 60 fps with AV1 or H.265, or 50 Mbps with H.264. Its listed minimums are 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265 and 14 Mbps for H.264. These are encoder-setting recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular cloud VM and software setup can encode a given video reliably. Confirm that the selected machine can sustain the intended workload and has enough outbound capacity.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
At a steady rate, 35 Mbps corresponds to about 15.75 decimal GB per hour sent, and 50 Mbps to about 22.5 decimal GB per hour, before protocol overhead. Those figures illustrate data volume; they are not a prediction of billable transfer, which depends on the provider’s measurement and billing rules. Google publishes machine-type-specific maximum egress information for G2 instances in its G2 machine documentation; check the applicable limit and current transfer charges for your configuration.
YouTube Live settings that affect the setup
- Ingest protocol: YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS. Use the protocol and endpoint available in your YouTube Live setup.
- Codec and bitrate: YouTube supports H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1. For 4K60, its recommended ingest bitrate is 35 Mbps for AV1/H.265 or 50 Mbps for H.264.
- Frame rate and keyframes: YouTube allows up to 60 fps and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not over four seconds.
- Viewer playback: YouTube says it automatically transcodes live streams into different output formats for viewers. Your ingest bitrate is therefore not the bitrate every viewer must receive.
- Latency: For 4K, YouTube’s low-latency option is unavailable; the stream uses normal latency.

Is a cloud GPU the right way to keep a channel live?
A GPU VM is a do-it-yourself hosting approach: you select and configure the machine, run streaming or encoding software, manage video files and the stream connection, and account for storage, egress, restarts and recovery. The estimate above prices one compute example; it does not establish that this VM/software combination has been tested for your workload.
For a 24/7 channel, Spot’s lower example is not equivalent to dependable continuity. If you choose it, plan how your stream will resume if capacity is interrupted. On-demand avoids that particular Spot-capacity trade-off, but it does not itself provide failover or make the stream immune to software, network or service interruptions.

Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a separate cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is not a camera-based live broadcast service.
- Nothing has to stay running at home.
- One flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required; one free day per account.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. That is a StreamNeo plan price, not a cloud-GPU estimate. See StreamNeo for plan details, or start the free first day.
