To restart a continuous children’s YouTube livestream as a separate broadcast, end the current stream, create or schedule a new stream in YouTube Studio, and select Reuse settings if you want to carry over its setup. This creates a new broadcast and watch-page event; it does not simply extend the old stream. Before starting, review the copied title, audience designation, visibility, schedule, and automation settings.
End the current broadcast and create a new one
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then open the Manage tab to find the current or previous stream.
- When the current segment is complete, end it. For an encoder stream, stop sending content from the encoder; for a scheduled stream, select End Stream in Live Control Room and stop the encoder feed. YouTube’s encoder instructions explain how ending the feed ends the stream.
- Create a new stream, or schedule one. In the list of previous streams, select the one you want to use as a template and choose Reuse settings. YouTube copies the previous stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key; those values can be edited after creation, as described in Manage live stream settings.
- Review the new broadcast’s title, description, audience setting, visibility, schedule, and automation choices. Change any fields that are not right for this broadcast. Do not assume that copied settings are suitable just because the earlier stream used them.
- Connect the encoder with the stream URL and key associated with the new broadcast, then start sending the feed. If the broadcast is scheduled, wait for the encoder preview to appear in Live Control Room and select Go live.
- Check that the new watch page is accessible and monitor the preview for picture and sound before relying on the broadcast as live. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring stream quality in its live streaming tips.
Reuse settings or start from scratch?
| Choice | What carries over | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| Reuse settings | The previous stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key. Auto-start and auto-stop choices are copied too. | Use it when the new broadcast should follow the previous setup, but verify every copied field and automation choice first. |
| Create from scratch | No previous setup is intentionally carried over. | Use it when the next broadcast needs a different setup or you prefer to enter the details afresh. |
Reusing a stream key can save encoder setup time, but treat the key as a credential: it tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. If a key is compromised, reset it and update the encoder with the replacement. You can also use a custom key when you deliberately want to keep using the same key. Confirm auto-start and auto-stop behavior at the boundary between broadcasts; those settings may cause the encoder to start or stop a stream without a separate manual action. YouTube documents these controls in its live stream settings guide.
Set children’s audience and participant details correctly
Audience designation and the presence of children as participants are separate issues. Set whether the content is made for kids accurately for the broadcast; do not use the setting merely because a child might watch.
If the stream is made for kids
YouTube disables live chat, chat replay, Super Chat, comments on live archives and upcoming streams, and reminder notifications for upcoming streams on streams designated made for kids. Personalized ads are also disabled for made-for-kids livestreams and Premieres, although contextual ads may still appear. Plan the broadcast without relying on those features. See YouTube’s guidance on restrictions for live streaming.

If under-16s appear as participants
YouTube’s guidance for minors concerns participation, not just the intended audience: under-16s participating from an adult-owned account must have the adult visibly present. YouTube says a livestream featuring under-16s without a visibly accompanying adult may be removed or have live chat disabled. It recommends that an adult be nearby or aware and that chat be moderated safely. Check the current official live-streaming restrictions before involving minors.
Why separate broadcasts can help with long schedules
Separate broadcasts create distinct stream events rather than one uninterrupted event. That can be useful when you want separate watch pages and archives for successive parts of a continuous schedule. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after they end; that statement does not guarantee that every stream longer than 12 hours will have no recording. Details are in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a live stream, but YouTube warns that DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers cannot seek back to before the stream began. If DVR is disabled, they cannot seek back during the live broadcast, though a recording may still be available after it ends. See Turn on DVR on live streams.
Timing and equipment
You do not need a hardware encoder just to create a new broadcast or reuse settings. YouTube supports encoder-based streams and says professional-grade hardware encoders are recommended for higher-production-value events; that is a recommendation, not a requirement for this workflow. Its live streaming tips recommend setting up an encoder at least 2 hours before a scheduled livestream and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event. These are preparation recommendations, not prerequisites for creating a new stream.

Troubleshooting a new broadcast
- The encoder is sending video, but the new broadcast is not live. Confirm that the encoder is using the URL and key associated with the new stream. If it is scheduled, wait for the preview in Live Control Room and select Go live.
- The wrong title, privacy, or audience setting appears. Reopen the new stream’s details and correct the copied values before going live. Reuse settings copies information from the earlier broadcast; it does not determine what is appropriate for this one.
- The encoder starts or stops at an unexpected time. Check the new stream’s auto-start and auto-stop settings. Reuse settings carries those choices forward, so adjust them if the new schedule needs different behavior.
- The stream key no longer works or may be exposed. Reset the key in YouTube Studio and replace it in the encoder. A reset key must be updated wherever the encoder is configured.
- Viewers cannot chat, comment, rewind, or set a reminder. Check the made-for-kids designation and stream duration. Made-for-kids settings restrict several interaction features, while DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours; these are different causes with different remedies.
- The old event has ended, but the next event has not started. A new broadcast is a separate stream object. Create it, start the encoder, and complete the scheduled-stream preview and Go live step where applicable; ending the old event alone does not create or start the next one.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your continuous children’s channel uses uploaded, pre-recorded videos rather than a live camera or interactive gameplay feed, StreamNeo is a cloud option for keeping a YouTube channel live. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is not a way to broadcast a live camera feed.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; StreamNeo runs the uploaded video from the cloud.
- Each slot streams what you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot without quality tiers.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. For a continuous channel based on uploaded videos, start your free StreamNeo day.
