AWS Elemental MediaStore is no longer available. For a simple live-video origin, AWS recommends Amazon S3; for workflows requiring DRM, ad insertion, cross-region failover, or specific low-latency capabilities, AWS points to AWS Elemental MediaPackage. The right replacement depends on what MediaStore did in your architecture—not just on which service can hold files.
When did MediaStore end, and is it still usable?
The shutdown deadline has passed. AWS’s General Reference table lists November 12, 2025 as MediaStore’s end-of-support date. AWS’s November 12, 2024 discontinuation announcement says customers could continue normal use until November 13, 2025, after which service capabilities would no longer be available. These are AWS’s two published date formulations: the first labels an end-of-support date; the second describes the last day customers could use the service and support ending after it. Neither means MediaStore remains an available option today.
AWS advised customers who could not retrieve data before the deadline, or who had other questions, to contact AWS Support through their AWS account. That advice is not a guarantee that post-shutdown access or recovery will be possible.
Choose a replacement by workflow requirement
AWS’s decision rule is conditional, not a one-for-one mapping. S3 is the direction for simple live-video origin workflows; MediaPackage is the direction when the workflow needs advanced packaging or particular delivery capabilities. Confirm current feature and regional availability against your actual design before migrating.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| What your workflow needs | AWS direction | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Simple live-video origin without advanced packaging requirements | Amazon S3 | Whether the origin behavior, request patterns, latency targets, and delivery architecture meet the workload’s needs. |
| DRM or ad insertion that requires repackaging | AWS Elemental MediaPackage | The packaging workflow, player and output requirements, and current feature availability. |
| Cross-region failover or specific low-latency requirements | AWS Elemental MediaPackage | The precise failover or latency objective and the relevant current service and regional capabilities. |
| Persistent objects that must be retained | Copy them to selected storage, such as S3, if they remain accessible | Which objects are genuinely persistent, whether they were retrieved before shutdown, and whether AWS Support can advise on account-specific access. |
Why S3 and MediaPackage are not interchangeable
S3 is a storage destination
For a simple origin workflow, AWS recommends Amazon S3. AWS’s discontinuation announcement cites S3’s strong read-after-write consistency, implemented in 2020, and improved tail-latency performance as context for its suitability for live-video origination. These are AWS’s stated reasons, not an independent comparative benchmark or a promise that every S3-based design will meet a particular latency target.
AWS also describes S3 as a lower-cost option for live-video origination than MediaStore, but does not provide a price comparison, workload assumptions, or a quantified saving. Evaluate cost using your own request, storage, transfer, and architecture requirements rather than assuming a fixed percentage reduction.

MediaPackage addresses packaging needs
MediaPackage is the AWS direction when the workflow needs capabilities such as DRM or ad insertion that require repackaging, or advanced requirements such as cross-region failover or specific low latency. AWS’s MediaLive guidance characterized MediaStore as simpler when repackaging was not needed; that distinction can help explain the former workflow roles, but MediaStore’s shutdown means it is not a current alternative.
Before choosing MediaPackage, map your inputs, outputs, packaging, player behavior, and operational requirements. A storage-origin decision and a just-in-time packaging decision solve different parts of a media workflow; selecting a service by name alone can leave a missing capability or unnecessary complexity.

Separate live-origin objects from data you need to keep
Do not assume that every object previously written to MediaStore was intended as permanent storage. AWS notes that live-origin data often is not persistent: an encoder may delete it after a configured period, or a lifecycle policy may remove it. First establish which objects were transient origin content and which were records, assets, or other persistent data your team must retain.
- Inventory the retention requirement. Identify the content and metadata that must be kept, the retention period, and any downstream system that depends on them.
- Check whether the data was already copied. Verify the destination and completeness of any prior migration rather than treating an old origin as an archive.
- For accessible persistent data, copy it to an approved storage target. AWS’s discontinuation announcement said the MediaStore List and Get APIs could be used to copy data to a target such as S3. Because the shutdown date has passed, that announcement does not establish that these APIs remain usable now.
- If the objects are inaccessible, contact AWS Support. Use the AWS account associated with the service. Do not plan a migration on the assumption that support can restore or retrieve data.
Plan the migration around your actual architecture
Before replacing the old origin, document what sent content to MediaStore and what read from it. Then decide whether the replacement is simply a storage origin or also needs to package, protect, or deliver streams. Test the selected path with the actual encoder, output formats, player, and failure scenarios before moving production traffic.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Record whether the stream is a simple origin workflow or depends on packaging features such as DRM or ad insertion.
- Write down latency and availability objectives, including whether cross-region failover is required.
- Distinguish transient live-origin objects from persistent assets and verify where each category now lives.
- Check current AWS service and regional availability for every required capability; the general recommendation is not a design specification.
- Review cost against your own workload. AWS’s announcement gives no numeric savings estimate or workload-specific price comparison.
Do not mistake a MediaPackage v1-to-v2 move for automatic migration
If your replacement design uses MediaPackage and also involves existing MediaPackage v1 resources, treat the v1-to-v2 transition as a separate migration. AWS’s MediaPackage v2 user guide says v2 uses distinct resource identifiers and that there is no automated process to migrate v1 resources to v2. This warning concerns MediaPackage versions; it does not describe an automated conversion from MediaStore.
A complex migration example is not a universal template
AWS’s June 29, 2026 case study describes broadcaster 5’s customer-specific move from a dual-pipeline arrangement to MediaPackage v2, including requirements such as DVB-DASH and accessibility signaling. It shows that a complex workflow can call for a tailored packaging design; it does not establish that MediaPackage v2 is the right answer for every former MediaStore customer or provide a generic migration recipe.

Where StreamNeo fits—and where it does not
StreamNeo is a separate cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos and playlists. It is not an AWS Elemental MediaStore replacement, an S3 origin, or a MediaPackage migration path, so it should not be used to choose an AWS architecture. If your separate goal is looping uploaded video on YouTube without leaving a computer running, you can try StreamNeo.
