You can run children’s stories as a continuous YouTube Live stream by clearing the rights to every text, image, recording and music track, assembling them into a looping program, then sending that program to YouTube with a software encoder, hardware encoder or cloud service. A verified channel and stable internet connection are essential for a computer-based setup. A stream staying live is separate from YouTube retaining a full replay: streams over 12 hours may not be captured, so keep a local recording if the archive matters.
1. Verify the rights to every part of each story
“Public domain” applies to particular works, editions and jurisdictions—not automatically to everything associated with an old story. A book’s text, a translation, illustrations, narration, background music and recordings can each have different rights. Finding a story online or in a digital library is not enough to establish that every element can be rebroadcast.
YouTube says, “You are responsible for verifying that a work is in the public domain before you upload it to YouTube.” YouTube’s copyright guidance puts the responsibility on the uploader. For U.S. framing, the U.S. Copyright Office says works published in the United States before January 1, 1931 are in the public domain because their copyright has expired. Project Gutenberg’s copyright guidance likewise describes qualifying works published in 1930 or earlier as having no U.S. copyright restrictions as of 2026, subject to its conditions. Neither statement settles rights in every country or every version of a work.
Keep a rights record
Before production, record the exact source and rights basis for each asset. Save copies of relevant license terms or permissions. If you cannot establish that a particular translation, image, narration or musical recording is reusable in your intended territories, leave it out or replace it with material whose rights you can verify.

- Story title, author and exact text edition or translation.
- Illustrations and other visual material, with their creator and source.
- Narrator, recording source and permission or license for the recording.
- Music and sound effects, including the specific recording used.
- Countries where you intend to make the stream available and the basis for reuse there.
2. Build a continuous story program
Create a sequence of story segments using the rights-cleared material. You might present pages or illustrations with narration, or use another visual treatment suited to your channel. YouTube’s cited setup documentation does not require a particular program format; the continuous sequence or playlist is a production choice that gives the stream something to play repeatedly.
Prepare and review the assets
- Collect the cleared text, images and audio in a project folder, keeping the rights record alongside them.
- Assemble the selected stories into a continuous video or playlist in the order you want viewers to encounter them.
- Check the finished sequence for stray material that was not cleared, including music, artwork and audio embedded in source files.
- Preview the complete program for missing files, silent sections, abrupt transitions and unintended gaps before scheduling it.
Only include narration when the recording rights are clear. Do not assume a public-domain text makes a modern reading or recording of it public domain. The same distinction applies to a new illustration of an old story and to a recording of music whose composition may be old.

3. Make the channel eligible for YouTube Live
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions within the preceding 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. Check eligibility and enable the feature before planning a launch time; a newly enabled channel may not be able to start immediately. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
4. Choose how to send the program to YouTube
YouTube supports software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. Its encoder setup instructions also list cloud services described for continuous pre-recorded streaming. The right option depends on whether you want to maintain an always-on computer, buy dedicated equipment or use a provider that supports the workflow you need.

| Approach | What it means for this workflow | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder | A computer runs encoding software and sends the program to YouTube. Dedicated hardware is not required. | The computer and connection must remain available while you stream; test encoder stability and plan how to handle a stopped process or connection. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | A dedicated device encodes and sends the feed. | Confirm that the model supports the inputs, codecs and YouTube settings your program needs. Hardware is an option, not a YouTube requirement. |
| Cloud streaming service | A provider sends a supported pre-recorded program to YouTube from its cloud. | Verify that the service supports your exact YouTube Live workflow, inputs, stream settings, recovery behavior and archive needs. |
For the computer-based route, YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room is where you create or schedule the stream and obtain the connection details for your encoder. Exact controls and labels can change; follow the current YouTube encoder setup steps in Studio rather than relying on an old interface walkthrough.
5. Connect an encoder and choose stable stream settings
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
- Choose an encoder configuration YouTube supports and a bitrate your upload connection can sustain consistently.
- Start the encoder, then check YouTube’s stream-health indicators and monitor the feed before leaving it unattended.
YouTube’s encoder guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS, supported codecs and constant-bitrate guidance. It recommends a keyframe interval of 2 seconds and warns not to exceed 4 seconds. Its settings table lists 2 Mbps as the recommended bitrate for 720p at 30 fps; this is an example for that resolution and frame rate, not a universal recommendation for every program. Choose the setting that fits your intended output and connection, using YouTube’s current live encoder settings as the reference. YouTube transcodes incoming streams into output formats for viewers.

Test before unattended operation
- Run a test using the same encoder, connection and program assets you intend to use.
- Watch the stream in YouTube and inspect stream health for dropped frames or other problems.
- Confirm that audio and video remain in sync and that the program advances as intended.
- Check whether the computer, encoder or service can resume after an interruption; do not assume a successful short test proves continuous operation.
6. Plan for interruptions, rights checks and the replay
Live rights enforcement
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. If identified material continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. Even when you have licensed third-party material, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel in Content ID. Keep the rights records accessible and check YouTube Studio if the stream is interrupted. The applicable rules are described in YouTube’s Terms of Service and its copyright guidance.
Live continuity is not the same as a complete archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its warning is explicit: “If your live stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” See YouTube’s archive-live-stream guidance. If retaining a full replay matters, make a local recording as well. If you choose shorter sessions, plan how viewers will encounter the session changes and verify the channel presentation you want; do not assume a long-running live feed will produce one complete replay.

7. Let the story stream run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping a channel live from uploaded videos. The setup is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the program from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
Each slot includes one always-on stream, looping and playlists, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, support from the StreamNeo team and playback at the quality uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding or quality tiers. The same features apply on every plan; only the billing length changes. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support.
Plans are available by day, week, month, six months or year: Daily $0.99 per day · Weekly $2.99 per week · Monthly $9.99 per month · 6 months $49.99 for 6 months · Yearly $89.99 a year. You can cancel any time. Review the current plan details before choosing a term.
