To reuse an OBS scene setup, put the scenes and sources in a Scene Collection; to reuse stream, video, or output settings, duplicate an OBS Profile. Then create or schedule each YouTube live event separately in YouTube Studio and, if useful, choose Reuse settings. These are separate tasks: copying an OBS scene does not connect it to a YouTube playlist or make scenes switch when a playlist changes.
Choose what you need to copy
| What you want to reuse | Use | What it contains |
|---|---|---|
| A set of scenes and sources for a different stream setup | OBS Scene Collection | Scenes, sources, and Global Audio Sources configured in Settings → Audio. It does not store output settings. |
| Stream destination or account, video, or output configuration | OBS Profile | Stream settings, including Connected Account; Video settings, including Base (Canvas) Resolution; and Output settings. It does not store scenes. |
| A new YouTube live event based on an earlier event | YouTube Live Control Room, Reuse settings | The previous stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key; you can edit settings after creating the new event. |
OBS documents Scene Collections and Profiles as complementary features. Its Scene Collections and Profiles articles are dated January 14, 2022, so menu appearance may vary by OBS version, but the distinction is clear: collections hold scenes and sources, while profiles hold settings related mainly to output.
Set up the OBS scenes and settings
Use a Scene Collection for scene and source layouts
- In OBS, open the Scene Collection menu and create or select the collection for the stream setup you want. Menu wording or placement may vary by version.
- Arrange the scenes and sources for that setup. Collections save the scenes and sources added to them, including Global Audio Sources set in Settings → Audio.
- Switch collections when you need a different scene/source arrangement. Keep in mind that a collection does not save output settings.
Duplicate a Profile when the output configuration should carry over
- Open the Profile menu and choose Duplicate.
- Rename the copied profile and adjust its Stream, Video, or Output settings for the intended stream, if needed.
- Select the profile and the Scene Collection you intend to use together before broadcasting. A Profile copy does not copy scenes.
You do not need to duplicate a Profile merely to reuse scenes, or create a new Scene Collection just to change the stream destination. Choose each feature according to what needs to differ.
Create or schedule each YouTube live event
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room. For a scheduled encoder stream, use the Manage tab and choose Schedule Stream.
- Choose Reuse settings to copy a previous event’s metadata, settings, and stream key, or choose Create new to set up a fresh event.
- Review the new event’s title, description, privacy, schedule, and other settings. Reused information is a starting point, not a substitute for checking that the event is the one you mean to publish.
- In OBS, connect to the intended event using its YouTube server URL and stream key, or choose YouTube directly if that connection option is available in your encoder setup.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s encoder instructions say to click Go live after the preview appears.
YouTube Help’s Manage live stream settings page documents reuse and stream-key controls. Its encoder setup guide covers creating or scheduling an encoder stream and connecting with the server URL and key. YouTube interface labels can change, so follow the current Live Control Room prompts if they differ.

Protect and verify the stream key
A reused event copies the previous stream key as well as its other settings. YouTube describes a stream key as the encoder’s password and address, so treat it as a credential: do not share it publicly, and confirm the selected key belongs to the intended event before starting OBS. If you believe it has been exposed, use YouTube’s stream-key reset workflow and update the key in OBS.
What this does—and does not do—for playlists
OBS scene duplication and YouTube playlist management are not documented as linked operations in the OBS or YouTube instructions cited here. A Scene Collection lets you switch scene/source arrangements; YouTube’s Reuse settings copies event information. Neither feature is documented as making OBS detect a playlist change and automatically switch scenes. If playlist-driven scene automation is your goal, do not assume these steps provide it; the cited official documentation does not establish that capability.

Common setup mistakes
- Duplicating a Profile and expecting scenes to copy: Profiles do not store scenes. Use a Scene Collection for scene/source arrangements.
- Changing collections and expecting output settings to follow: Scene Collections do not store output settings. Select or duplicate the appropriate Profile separately.
- Assuming Reuse settings creates an OBS layout or playlist link: It copies YouTube event metadata, settings, and the stream key only.
- Sending OBS to the wrong event: Check the target event and its stream key before starting the encoder; a reused key can be carried into a new event.
- Expecting a scheduled stream to publish as soon as OBS connects: Wait for the Live Control Room preview and use its Go live control as instructed for scheduled streams.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your aim is to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube live stream rather than manage an OBS computer, StreamNeo runs the stream in the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
