For a prerecorded Malayalam news loop, FFmpeg can repeat the file with -stream_loop -1; keeping a 24/7 broadcast dependable also requires a tested host, network, monitoring, and recovery plan.
Before you start: check channel access and prepare the source
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.
- Have the prerecorded video available on the machine that will run FFmpeg, and confirm it contains the intended video and audio streams.
- Use an internet connection with sustained upload capacity above the combined video and audio bitrate. YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom over the total stream bitrate; see its streaming tips.
- Install an FFmpeg build that supports the encoders and output options you plan to use. Confirm option behavior with that build’s help and documentation; the command below is a starting template, not a tested guarantee for every file or build.
Get the YouTube stream URL and key
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, then open the Stream tab in Live Control Room.
- Create a stream or select an existing one. You can create a custom key for reusable settings.
- Copy the displayed Stream URL and Stream key. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address”: they tell the encoder where to send the feed and let YouTube accept it. See Manage live stream settings.
- Keep the key secret. Do not publish it, commit it to a public repository, include it in a screenshot, or share it in a log. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update FFmpeg with the new key.
Use the exact ingest URL YouTube displays. The example below uses a common RTMPS endpoint format, but an account or stream may show a different URL or protocol. Follow the displayed value rather than assuming the example endpoint is universal.
Loop a prerecorded video with FFmpeg
Replace input.mp4 with your file and STREAM_KEY with the private key. Substitute the server URL if YouTube shows a different one. Keep the key out of any command history or logs you may share.

-f flv "rtmps://a.rtmp.youtube.com:443/live2/STREAM_KEY"-rereads the file at approximately its native rate rather than sending it as fast as possible.-stream_loop -1requests indefinite looping of the input.- The example’s 60-frame GOP is two seconds only at 30 fps. For a different frame rate, calculate the GOP accordingly.
- The video bitrate and encoding options are examples, not universal settings. The command uses H.264 video and AAC audio in an FLV output, so confirm the source, encoder support, output compatibility, and actual stream preview.
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest. Its encoder settings guidance lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant-bitrate encoding; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval not exceeding four seconds. For H.264 at 1080p30, the current table lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended. The sample’s 5 Mbps is the minimum for that particular resolution, frame rate, and codec—not the recommended bitrate. Choose settings for the source and sustainable connection rather than applying one bitrate to every stream.

FFmpeg’s protocol documentation covers RTMP behavior. If the file is already compatible, test carefully before choosing stream copy instead of re-encoding; compatibility depends on its streams and the output requirements.
Start the broadcast and verify YouTube receives it
- Run the command on the host that will remain available for the broadcast.
- Open the stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and wait for video and audio in the preview.
- Check image quality, audio level and synchronization, and stream health before relying on the feed unattended. YouTube recommends testing, previewing, and monitoring quality.
Make a 24/7 loop resilient
Looping a file handles repeated input; it does not by itself restart FFmpeg after a crash or restore a dropped network connection. For a self-managed setup, arrange a process supervisor or equivalent restart plan, monitor both FFmpeg and YouTube’s stream health, and test failure and recovery behavior on the actual host and network.

FFmpeg documents FIFO muxer options for recovering RTMP output after temporary failures in its full documentation. These options are not a promise of seamless reconnection to YouTube. Test your configuration rather than treating recovery settings as guaranteed continuity.

- Verify that Malayalam text renders correctly, including tickers and on-screen labels. Make sure the required fonts are available wherever the file is produced or rendered.
- Check that subtitles remain readable on a phone-sized screen.
- Listen for clear, synchronized Malayalam narration and inspect any time or ticker graphics that should update.
- Confirm you have the rights needed to broadcast the video, narration, music, images, and other included material. A working stream key does not grant rights to content.
Understand YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous 24/7 broadcast exceeds that stated window, so do not assume the entire day will be available as one complete archived video. If you need a complete copy, arrange separate recording and check YouTube’s current handling of long broadcasts. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Troubleshooting
