For a straightforward OBS starting profile, use H.264 at 1080p30, CBR at 14 Mbps, a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo audio at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps over RTMPS. Those are YouTube’s published encoder recommendations, checked in 2026—not a bitrate proven to work on every Indian connection. Test sustained upload speed where the stream will run and keep at least 20% bandwidth headroom. If your connection cannot sustain the 1080p profile, test 720p30 at 8 Mbps instead.
Recommended OBS settings for a YouTube bhajan stream
YouTube’s encoder recommendations are organized by codec, resolution, and frame rate, not by country. The following H.264 profiles are practical starting points for a devotional playlist stream. YouTube’s pages do not state when their bitrate tables were published; the figures below were checked in 2026.
| Setting | 1080p starting profile | 720p alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Video codec | H.264 | H.264 |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps | 1280 × 720 at 30 fps |
| Rate control | CBR | CBR |
| Video bitrate | 14 Mbps, YouTube’s recommendation for H.264 at 1080p30 | 8 Mbps, YouTube’s recommendation for H.264 at 720p30 |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; no more than 4 seconds | 2 seconds recommended; no more than 4 seconds |
| Audio | AAC stereo, 44.1 kHz, 128 kbps | AAC stereo, 44.1 kHz, 128 kbps |
| Protocol | RTMPS recommended | RTMPS recommended |
YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1 for ordinary SDR live video. H.264 is a simple starting point when your encoder supports it. YouTube’s advanced guidance specifies Rec. 709 and 8-bit for SDR. Use these profile details as encoder targets, then confirm the output looks and sounds right in the Live Control Room preview.
Match the bitrate to the internet connection
The recommended bitrate is not proof that your connection can sustain it. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream bitrate. That means a stable 14 Mbps video stream needs more than 14 Mbps available for streaming; reserve additional capacity for the audio and normal network variation rather than treating a speed-test peak as usable capacity.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Run a sustained upload test on the actual connection and equipment you will use for the broadcast.
- Repeat at representative times if the connection is shared or varies through the day.
- Choose 1080p30 at 14 Mbps only if the measured sustained upload can carry it with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
- If it cannot, test 720p30 at 8 Mbps using the same general audio and encoder settings.
- Send a test stream with audio and motion similar to the real playlist. Watch YouTube’s stream-health messages and check for dropped frames or interruptions before relying on it.
A mostly static devotional visual may not need the higher resolution, but the available guidance does not establish which resolution looks best for a particular bhajan stream. Compare both in a test using your own artwork, video, and typical viewing devices.
Configure OBS and connect it to YouTube
Before configuring the encoder, make sure the channel is eligible to stream. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The labels below describe the relevant OBS and YouTube settings; exact OBS labels can vary by version.

- Confirm channel access. In YouTube Studio, check that live streaming is available for the channel. If it is not yet enabled, complete YouTube’s verification and activation steps before scheduling a continuous broadcast.
- Get the stream connection details. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or configure the broadcast. Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in a screenshot, overlay, public document, or recording.
- Set the video output. In OBS, open Settings → Output, select the streaming output controls, and choose H.264 with CBR. Enter the bitrate for the resolution you are testing and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds.
- Set the canvas and frame rate. In Settings → Video, set the output to 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps for the 1080p profile, or 1280 × 720 at 30 fps for the 720p profile. Set SDR colour handling to Rec. 709 and 8-bit where the encoder exposes those options.
- Set audio. Use AAC stereo at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Check that the playlist audio reaches OBS at a sensible level without clipping or accidental silence.
- Choose RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the stream connection to Google’s servers.
- Test before going unattended. Start a test broadcast, inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages, listen to the audio, and confirm the public-facing stream is visible as intended.
Loop an authorized playlist in OBS
OBS’s Media Source can load local video and audio files, and its Loop property repeats a file when playback ends. For a playlist, build and test a sequence of authorized files or sources that returns cleanly to the beginning. OBS’s Media Sources guide was last updated on 2022-01-11; check the controls in the OBS version you use.
- Add the local media source or sources containing the bhajan video and audio.
- Enable the source’s Loop property when repeating a single file. For multiple items, test the playlist or scene sequence you have assembled so it continues from the final item to the first.
- Watch and listen through a complete cycle, including the transition at the loop point. Check for a blank frame, cut-off audio, unexpected silence, or a source that does not restart.
- Run the broadcast preview long enough to confirm that the picture, audio, and loop behave as expected before leaving it unattended.
Check music rights before streaming
Devotional subject matter does not by itself grant permission to broadcast a recording. Lyrics, compositions, arrangements, performances, and sound recordings may have different rights owners. Use only material for which you have the necessary rights for the intended worldwide stream, and check that any licence covers the uses and territories involved.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies material, it may replace the picture, interrupt the broadcast, or terminate it. YouTube also warns that a licensed third-party work can still be interrupted unless the rights holder adds the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Resolve permissions and any required allowlisting with the relevant rights holders before relying on a continuous stream; platform guidance alone does not determine the legal status of a particular recording under Indian law.
Plan for archives, failures, and continuous operation
A stream running around the clock is not the same as a guaranteed complete YouTube archive. YouTube says a stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for sessions longer than 12 hours. If a complete recording matters, use shorter sessions and make a local recording; monitor the local file to confirm it is growing.

- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages after starting.
- Monitor audio and video, and confirm that the broadcast is visible to viewers.
- Keep a local recording if you need a dependable copy of the program.
- Consider a backup encoder when continuity matters, and test the failover plan in advance.
- Account for the computer, power, and network: a single-encoder setup cannot promise uninterrupted service through failures in any of them.
YouTube’s live guidance recommends testing the stream, monitoring its health, checking local recordings, and testing encoder failover. Its help page states: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” The Archive live streams page was checked on 2026-10-03 and does not state a publication date.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| Dropped frames or stream-health warnings | Upload capacity is insufficient or fluctuating, or the connection is disrupted. | Measure sustained upload at the broadcast location, preserve 20% headroom, reduce from 1080p30 at 14 Mbps to 720p30 at 8 Mbps if needed, then retest. |
| Stream will not connect | Channel eligibility is incomplete, or the stream URL/key is wrong or outdated. | Confirm the channel can go live in YouTube Studio and copy the current connection details from the Live Control Room. Keep the key private. |
| Black screen, silence, or a broken loop | The media source is not active, does not restart, or has a transition problem. | Check the source file and loop setting, then test the complete sequence—including the end-to-start transition—with audio before broadcasting unattended. |
| Picture replaced or broadcast interrupted | YouTube may have identified third-party material. | Review the rights for the exact recording and contact the rights holder about permissions and Content ID allowlisting where applicable. |
| No complete archive appears | The live session exceeded 12 hours. | Do not rely on YouTube to capture a continuous session beyond that length; use shorter sessions and keep a local recording if a full archive is important. |
