Upload the finished video in YouTube Studio, then start an instant Premiere or schedule it. YouTube creates a public watch page where viewers can gather, watch together, and chat. A VPS is relevant only if you choose a different format, such as an encoder-based YouTube Live broadcast.
How a YouTube Premiere works
YouTube describes Premieres as a way for creators and viewers to watch a new video together in real time. The creator uploads a finished video in YouTube Studio and selects an instant Premiere or schedules it for a future date and time. YouTube then provides a public watch page that viewers can visit ahead of the event, share, and use to set reminders. YouTube Help: Premiere a new video.
During the Premiere, viewers watch the video together and can use chat and comments. They can rewind, but cannot skip ahead beyond the point reached in the shared playback. After the event, the video remains available as a regular upload. YouTube’s current help page says Shorts, 360/VR180 video, and output above 1080p are not supported for Premieres.
Schedule a Premiere without a VPS
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and choose Create, then Upload videos.
- Select the finished video and enter its title, description, audience, and other upload details.
- Choose an instant Premiere or schedule the video for a date and time. Check that the upload and processing are complete with enough time before the event.
- Share the public watch page so viewers can visit in advance and set reminders.
The documented process is based on uploading and scheduling in Studio. It does not call for a VPS, encoder, stream key, or computer that stays online when the Premiere begins. YouTube’s workflow does not rule out using a VPS for an adjacent task such as storing or processing a video; it simply gives the VPS no required role in running the Premiere itself.

Premiere versus encoder-based YouTube Live
A Premiere is not the same as sending prerecorded video through OBS or another encoder. In the latter setup, you create or schedule a YouTube Live event and transmit an encoder feed to YouTube using the event’s stream URL and stream key. YouTube recommends RTMPS as an encrypted connection option. See YouTube Help: Set up your encoder for live streaming and YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder.
| Question | YouTube Premiere | Encoder-based YouTube Live |
|---|---|---|
| What goes to YouTube? | A finished video uploaded in Studio. | A live feed sent by an encoder using the event’s stream URL and key. |
| Does a machine need to send a feed at event time? | No such requirement appears in the documented Premiere workflow. | Yes. The encoder must send the feed for the Live event. |
| Best fit | Viewers watch a completed video together at a chosen time. | The event needs a live input or continuous encoder playback. |
| VPS considerations | Not needed for the documented scheduling and playback workflow. | A VPS would need sufficient computing capacity and reliable upload for the chosen encoding workload; YouTube’s cited guidance does not specify a minimum VPS plan. |
If you choose an encoder event instead
These steps apply to an encoder-based Live event, not to a standard Premiere. YouTube’s general live-stream guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Those are live-streaming requirements, not special Premiere requirements. Check YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming for current account guidance.

- Create or schedule the Live event in YouTube Studio and open the Live Control Room.
- Copy the event’s stream URL and stream key into OBS or the encoder you are using. Keep the key private.
- Use RTMPS where supported, then start the encoder feed in advance of the scheduled event.
- Check the preview in Live Control Room, confirm the watch page is accessible, and monitor audio and video quality. Test failover if your setup uses it.
YouTube recommends preparing and checking an encoder event ahead of time. If you host the encoder on a VPS, verify the server’s ability to sustain your chosen encoding workload and maintain a reliable network upload. The official guidance cited here does not establish minimum CPU, GPU, memory, or network specifications for a VPS, nor does it compare providers or their prices. See YouTube Help: Live streaming tips.
What Indian creators should check
The Premiere instructions describe the general Studio upload-and-schedule workflow; they do not provide a separate procedure for creators in India. They also do not establish that every account is free of regional or account-specific restrictions. Check the current options shown in your own YouTube Studio account. If you are setting up an encoder-based Live event, apply YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance to that event rather than treating it as a Premiere requirement.
