YouTube’s documented Premiere setup does not indicate a general ban on creating Premieres from Indian channels. If Set as Premiere is missing, first check that the video and publishing flow are eligible; then review your channel’s feature access and policy notices. A requirement shown for adding a Premiere trailer should not be mistaken for a universal requirement to create a Premiere.
Is YouTube Premiere blocked in India?
YouTube’s Help page “Premiere a new video” documents how to create and schedule a Premiere without stating that Indian channels are generally prohibited from using the feature. The India-specific availability information sometimes encountered in YouTube Help concerns other features, such as Super Chat and Super Stickers; it does not establish a country restriction on Premieres.
That does not rule out an issue specific to your channel, video, account permissions, or current Studio state. If the option is absent after the checks below, YouTube’s public help information does not identify the cause for an individual account; the exact Studio message and account state will matter.
Check the video and publishing flow first
- Open the video’s Visibility step in YouTube Studio. For a Premiere, the video must be public. To release it later, choose Schedule and select Set as Premiere. YouTube also documents setting an eligible public upload as an instant Premiere.
- Check the format and output resolution. YouTube lists Shorts, 360/VR180 videos, and output above 1080p as unsupported for Premieres. If your video falls into one of those categories, use an eligible standard video at 1080p or below instead.
- Check whether you are creating the Premiere or adding an optional feature. The basic Premiere setting is different from a trailer, custom countdown, or monetization option. Those add-ons may have their own eligibility requirements.
Review channel feature access and account notices
Feature eligibility
In YouTube Studio, go to Settings > Channel > Feature eligibility. Review the status shown there and follow any verification or account notices. YouTube notes that some features have separate requirements, so the page is a useful diagnostic check but does not prove that every Premiere-related option uses one identical eligibility rule.

Account identity and channel role
If Studio shows an advanced-feature access error, confirm that you are signed into the intended Google account and channel. YouTube’s help for intermediate and advanced features says access may be unavailable when signed in as someone other than the primary owner, including in some Brand Account contexts, and identifies incompatible browsers as a possible source of errors. Those points apply to advanced-feature access troubleshooting; they do not establish that every basic Premiere requires the primary owner or that a browser issue is necessarily the cause of a missing Premiere control.
Community Guidelines strikes and scheduled publishing
Check Studio and account notifications for a Community Guidelines strike or other policy restriction. YouTube says a strike can prevent a scheduled Premiere from publishing during the penalty period: the Premiere is set to private, and you need to reschedule it after the freeze ends. The Help page “Schedule video publish time” also describes the effect of a strike penalty on scheduled publication.

Does a channel need 1,000 subscribers?
Not as a documented universal condition for making a basic Premiere. YouTube’s “Customize your Premiere” page applies the more-than-1,000-subscriber and no-Community-Guidelines-strikes condition to adding a trailer to the Premiere page. That is a trailer eligibility rule, not evidence that the same threshold applies to creating the Premiere itself.
Likewise, do not infer a Premiere restriction from rules for optional features. YouTube’s India availability information for Super Chat and Super Stickers concerns those fan-funding features, which have their own eligibility and video conditions; it does not answer whether a channel can create a Premiere.

If the option is still missing
- Recheck the video format, resolution, and public visibility, then confirm whether you are using the instant or scheduled publishing flow.
- Review Settings > Channel > Feature eligibility and resolve any verification or access notice presented there.
- Read your Studio and account notifications for a strike, restriction, or failed scheduled publish. If a scheduled Premiere was made private during a penalty freeze, reschedule it after the freeze ends.
- If the issue is an advanced-feature error, verify the signed-in account and channel role, and try a current compatible browser.
- If the basic option remains unavailable, contact YouTube Help or Creator Support where available. Include the channel, video format and resolution, the exact Studio screen where the control is missing, and any displayed error text. Those details help distinguish an account-specific issue from an unsupported video or publishing path.
Scheduling advice is not an eligibility rule
YouTube’s “YouTube premiere tips” recommends scheduling at least 24 hours ahead so viewers have a chance to see the thumbnail in their subscriptions feed. This is a promotion recommendation, not a prerequisite for Premiere access.
