To connect OBS to YouTube, open YouTube Studio and copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room, then enter them in OBS under Settings → Stream. Malayalam does not require a special stream key. The key connects OBS to YouTube; it does not make a playlist loop. A continuous 24/7 playlist needs a separate playback and recovery setup, and YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive.
Before you set up OBS
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and eligible for live streaming. YouTube says channels must have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s encoder setup requirements.
- Have your video and audio ready, and confirm you have the rights to broadcast them live and keep any resulting archive.
- Use an internet connection with stable upload capacity for your chosen resolution and bitrate. YouTube’s published bitrate figures are encoder guidance, not a guarantee that a particular connection will remain stable.
Get the YouTube stream URL and key
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, create a stream or select the scheduled stream you intend to use.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep the key private. For the official instructions, see Manage live stream settings.
A custom key can be reused. If you suspect someone else has obtained it, reset the key in Live Control Room and replace the saved key in OBS. A key is a credential for sending an encoder feed; it is not a video playlist or a setting that keeps playback going by itself.
Enter the key in OBS
- Open OBS and choose Settings → Stream.
- If YouTube is available in the Service menu, select it and follow the displayed connection method. Otherwise, select the option to use a custom server, then paste YouTube’s stream URL into Server and the copied key into Stream Key.
- Select Apply, then OK. Start a test stream and check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream health before treating the configuration as ready.
OBS labels can vary by version and connection method. The essential values are the URL and key from the same YouTube stream; do not paste the key into the server field.
Choose protocol, resolution, and bitrate
YouTube recommends RTMPS for typical encoder streams. Its standard RTMP/RTMPS guidance supports common codecs, including H.264. Use the resolution and frame rate your source and upload connection can sustain, rather than increasing quality settings beyond either one. Review YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance for the current values across codecs and frame rates.

For typical SDR streaming, YouTube’s guidance calls for H.264 and constant bitrate (CBR). Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds and do not exceed 4 seconds. If your connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate, lower the output resolution or frame rate and test again. These figures are YouTube’s ingestion recommendations, not a promise of uninterrupted delivery on your network.
When HLS is relevant
HLS is a distinct ingestion option, documented for HDR or codecs not supported by RTMP. YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency and imposes segment requirements, including 1–4 second segments and a rolling segment playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. That technical segment playlist is not a creator’s playlist of Malayalam songs or videos. Do not choose HLS just because you want to play a video playlist; see YouTube’s HLS setup guidance.

Can OBS loop a Malayalam playlist 24/7?
The stream key only sends OBS’s encoder output to YouTube. It does not create a playlist or ensure continuous playback. YouTube’s encoder and stream-key guidance does not establish a native OBS procedure for looping a creator’s video playlist uninterrupted for 24 hours a day. Treat playlist playback, automatic restart, and recovery after a dropped connection as separate requirements, and verify the behavior of the playback method you choose before relying on it.
No Malayalam-specific stream-key profile is established in YouTube’s stream-key guidance. Use the ordinary stream connection settings; Malayalam is a content or language choice, not a special key type. The exact steps for setting a language field are not covered by the encoder guidance cited here.

Copyright and live-stream rules for prerecorded content
You need the necessary rights for content you broadcast live and for any archive YouTube creates. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can interrupt or terminate a stream. This applies to music and video even when the material is part of a playlist. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and its guidance on copyright issues with live streams before broadcasting.
Plan for archives and 24/7 continuity
YouTube can automatically archive streams under 12 hours. A stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a single 24-hour broadcast should not be treated as a dependable archive. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording backup; see Archive live streams. If archive availability matters, plan how to preserve the source independently and verify your chosen approach before going live.

Also distinguish keeping an encoder connected from keeping the channel continuously live. A reused key may simplify reconnection, but it does not itself restart OBS, resume a playlist, or ensure YouTube accepts a replacement feed. Test the full sequence, including what happens after a network interruption or encoder restart. YouTube’s live streaming tips can help with preparation and monitoring.

- YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: confirm the server URL and key came from the same stream, that they are in the correct OBS fields, and that the key has not been reset. Recopy the values from Live Control Room if needed.
- The key no longer works: check whether it was reset or replaced in YouTube Studio, then update OBS with the current key. If it may be compromised, reset it rather than continuing to use it.
- The preview or stream health is unstable: test the upload connection and lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate until the connection can sustain the output. Check the stream preview and health during a representative test.
- The playlist stops while OBS remains connected: investigate the playback or automation method; the stream key controls the encoder connection, not playlist looping.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Keep an independent recording if you need a reliable copy.
- A live stream is interrupted: review content rights and YouTube’s copyright notices; third-party matches can interrupt or terminate a live broadcast.
