To run cooking videos as a continuous YouTube live stream, make a playlist of videos you have the right to broadcast, create a stream in YouTube Studio, and send that playlist to it through an encoder. A local encoder such as OBS requires a computer and internet connection to remain on; a cloud service can keep the feed running after you upload the videos and configure the stream.

Before you start: check channel access and video rights

  • Your channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube says live streaming is available to creators aged 16 or older; first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility and activation guidance before planning a launch.
  • Use cooking footage, music, and other material that you own or are authorized to broadcast. YouTube says live-stream content must follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. A prerecorded video does not become exempt from copyright or platform rules because it is presented as a live stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming policies.
  • Do not assume that running a stream continuously will increase discovery, views, or revenue. Monetization depends on YouTube Partner Program eligibility and applicable policies; a continuous prerecorded stream is not guaranteed to qualify.

Prepare a cooking-video playlist

Decide the sequence before creating the broadcast. For a food channel, you might group recipes by meal, cuisine, or preparation time, but use a title and description that accurately describe what viewers will see. Avoid presenting old footage as a live cooking demonstration if no one is cooking live.

Check the files and transitions

  • Where practical, use consistent resolution, aspect ratio, frame rate, and audio format across the playlist.
  • Preview each video for missing audio, unintended blank sections, abrupt cuts, or long gaps before and after the footage.
  • Play through each transition during a test cycle. Playlist changes can expose mismatched sound levels, black frames, or differences in aspect ratio.
  • Keep a copy of the original files and a record of the playlist order so you can restore or revise it if a file is removed.

These file-preparation checks are practical workflow guidance, not a guarantee about how YouTube will treat a particular stream.

Choose how to keep the feed running

Approach Best fit What must stay available Trade-off
StreamNeo cloud service You want uploaded videos to loop on YouTube without leaving an encoding computer running. The configured cloud stream, not your home computer. Uses a paid slot after the one free day; see plan details at StreamNeo pricing.
Local software encoder such as OBS You want direct control over scenes, overlays, or live camera and microphone inputs. The computer, power, software, and stable upload connection. A shutdown, network interruption, or encoder failure can interrupt the broadcast.
Dedicated encoder hardware You specifically want a standalone device and scheduled prerecorded-media playback. The hardware and network connection. A specialized equipment purchase; confirm the model supports the workflow you need.

YouTube’s verified encoder information includes hardware such as the AJA HELO Plus, whose PlayToStream function supports scheduled prerecorded media without a computer. YouTube also lists cloud-streaming services. Check provider features, current pricing, reliability information, and partner-program status directly before choosing. See YouTube’s verified encoder information.

Set up a local continuous stream with OBS

This method keeps the playlist and encoding on your computer. OBS interface names can vary by release, so check the current OBS menus if a label differs. The key requirement is that your computer, OBS, and network connection stay on for the whole broadcast.

  1. Prepare the playlist source. In OBS, add a Media Source for the first video and enable looping if you intend to repeat a single file. For a sequence, use a playlist-capable source or media-playlist workflow that can advance through the files. Confirm how your chosen source handles the end of a file and the transition to the next one; OBS source configuration can vary by version and setup.
  2. Set the canvas and output. In Settings > Video, choose a base canvas and output resolution that match the source material and the stream you can sustain. In Settings > Output, select an encoder and bitrate suitable for that resolution and your stable upload capacity. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance rather than guessing a bitrate; its recommendations can change by format and quality.
  3. Use a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends a keyframe frequency of 2 seconds. Configure the encoder accordingly where the setting is available.
  4. Connect OBS to YouTube. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room, then create or schedule a stream. Copy the stream URL and private stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s streaming settings. Keep the key secret: someone with it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel.
  5. Test before launch. Start OBS and wait for YouTube to receive the feed. Check the Live Control Room preview, stream health, moving video, and audio. Test representative sections and transitions, not just a static frame. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and video movement.
  6. Go live and monitor. For a scheduled broadcast, wait for the preview and then select Go live in Live Control Room. Keep an eye on stream health and the playlist. The computer must remain powered on, OBS must keep running, and the local connection must sustain the selected settings.

YouTube recommends RTMPS, its secure extension of RTMP, where the encoder supports it. Use the stream URL and protocol shown or recommended for your setup in YouTube Studio.

Choose resolution and bitrate for the connection

There is no single bitrate that suits every cooking-video library or internet connection. Match output to the source and current YouTube encoder recommendations, then leave enough upload capacity for a stable feed. A connection that only just reaches the selected bitrate can become unreliable when household or office traffic rises.

  • Do not upscale low-resolution footage just to select a higher output resolution.
  • Keep frame rate and aspect ratio consistent with the source where practical; mismatches can cause unnecessary scaling or uneven playback.
  • Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds, as recommended in YouTube’s current encoder guidance.
  • Run a test at the intended settings and check stream health before relying on the feed for an extended session.

Plan the archive separately from the live loop

YouTube automatically archives streams that are under 12 hours. If having an automatic archive matters, plan shorter sessions and end and restart the broadcast rather than relying on one longer continuous stream to create a single complete recording. Confirm current behavior in YouTube Studio before depending on an archive for a particular use.

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check
YouTube does not receive a signal The stream URL or key is incorrect, the encoder has not started, or the channel is not yet eligible to stream. Confirm activation and restrictions in YouTube Studio; copy the URL and key again for the intended stream, then restart the encoder.
Preview appears, but there is no sound The source file has no audio, the wrong audio track is selected, or the encoder is not sending audio. Test the file locally, check OBS audio meters and track selection, and verify that audio is present in the YouTube preview.
Stream health reports instability or the feed drops The upload connection cannot consistently sustain the selected output, or the computer or network is interrupted. Reduce output settings in line with YouTube’s current recommendations, check the connection under normal household load, and monitor the encoder and Live Control Room.
Playback goes black or pauses between videos A file path is unavailable, the playlist source does not advance as expected, or files have incompatible properties. Confirm all media is accessible to the encoder, inspect the playlist behavior, and test a full cycle including transitions.
The stream runs longer than expected without a complete archive The broadcast exceeded YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic archive condition. For an automatic archive, plan sessions shorter than 12 hours and verify the resulting archive in YouTube Studio.

Cost and setup trade-offs

A local OBS setup avoids a cloud-service slot fee if you already have suitable equipment, but it depends on powered hardware and a stable, continuously available upload connection. A dedicated hardware encoder is another option when its scheduling features justify the equipment cost. A cloud service trades those local dependencies for a service fee; compare what is included, the quality limits, storage, recovery behavior, and billing period before committing. None of these approaches guarantees audience growth or monetization.
