You can loop a recorded lesson in OBS by adding it as a Media Source, enabling Loop, then sending OBS to a YouTube encoder stream. That repeats the video file; it does not keep Windows, OBS, your internet connection or power running continuously. For a genuine unattended 24/7 stream, those reliability issues need their own plan.
Before you start: enable YouTube live streaming
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- If this is your first time enabling live streaming, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. Enable it well before the planned start.
- Use a Windows PC with OBS Studio, the lesson video saved locally, and a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your chosen stream settings.
YouTube’s encoder instructions do not specify India-only OBS settings. Your available upload speed and its consistency depend on your actual connection, so measure and test from the location and network you will use.
Set up a lesson that repeats in OBS
Loop a single lesson with Media Source
- Open OBS Studio and select or create the scene that should show the lesson.
- In the Sources box, select + and add Media Source. Create a new source, then browse to the recorded lesson file. OBS lists MP4 among the supported local video formats.
- In the Media Source properties, enable Loop. OBS will replay the file when playback reaches its end.
- Leave Restart playback when source becomes active enabled if each activation should begin at the start of the lesson. This setting is On by default.
- Check the OBS preview for framing and listen to the audio. Confirm that the correct lesson is selected and that its sound is audible.
Play several lessons as a playlist
For a sequence of recordings, add an OBS VLC Video source and set up its playlist. Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the sequence; it is On by default. This option requires VLC to be installed. OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Preview the transitions and audio before starting the stream.

Connect OBS to your YouTube channel
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or choose an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube or the available RTMPS option, and enter the server URL and stream key in the corresponding fields. If OBS offers a direct YouTube account connection instead, use the encoder stream details when the workflow requires them.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes stream keys as password-like credentials that identify where the encoder sends its feed and let YouTube accept it. If someone obtains the key, they may be able to send a feed to your stream.
Choose video, bitrate and audio settings
For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube’s encoder guidance, accessed in 2026, lists 5 Mbps as the minimum and 14 Mbps as the recommended bitrate. These are YouTube’s platform figures, not a guarantee that a particular PC or Indian internet connection can sustain them.

- Rate control: use CBR, YouTube’s recommended mode.
- Keyframe interval: set 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Audio: YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance supports AAC or MP3.
- SDR color: YouTube specifies Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth. HDR is unnecessary for ordinary lessons unless the source, encoder hardware and workflow genuinely support it.
- Resolution and frame rate: choose a profile suitable for the lesson and the upload connection. The figures above apply specifically to 1080p30 H.264.
Leave upload headroom rather than setting OBS to consume your entire upstream capacity. YouTube recommends a 20% reserve and warns that a connectivity disruption can break the stream. If the connection is variable or shared, lower the bitrate and test under realistic conditions.
Test the stream before leaving it unattended
- In YouTube Live Control Room, wait for the encoder preview and confirm that the intended lesson appears.
- Check moving content as well as a static title card. Listen to the lesson audio and confirm that the sound is neither missing nor unintentionally muted.
- Run playback through the end of the file, or through playlist transitions, to verify that the loop behaves as intended.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream health and the video and audio quality during a test. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring the stream.
- Confirm that the stream is visible to the intended audience and that the correct privacy and audience settings are selected in YouTube Studio.
What the OBS loop does—and what it does not
The Media Source loop repeats a file. It is not a watchdog for OBS crashes, Windows restarts, internet outages or power cuts. A 24/7 stream from a Windows PC also depends on the PC staying awake, OBS remaining open, reliable power and a continuing network connection. The loop setting alone cannot guarantee those conditions or uninterrupted availability.

Plan for those risks separately: test a long run, use a stable connection and power source, and decide how someone will detect and recover from failures. YouTube’s recommended upload reserve can help with capacity planning, but it cannot prevent every outage. The official guidance cited here does not establish Windows power-management steps or a method that guarantees automatic recovery for a local OBS setup.
