You can start a YouTube live from an eligible Android phone, but YouTube’s mobile workflow is not a documented unattended 24/7 system. A phone-only broadcast may disconnect, and YouTube warns that a live stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use the phone method below to start a live; for continuous programming, consider a cloud workflow and verify its recovery and monitoring features. Before going live, make sure you have rights to use the sleep audio in a live stream.
What you need before going live from Android
YouTube’s current mobile-live requirements are:
- At least 50 subscribers.
- A verified YouTube channel.
- No live-streaming restriction on the channel in the previous 90 days.
- Live streaming enabled. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- An Android device running Android 8.0 or later.
These are eligibility requirements, not a guarantee that the phone will stay connected or keep streaming around the clock. YouTube’s guidance does not establish Android battery life, temperature, network stability, or app-background behavior for an unattended 24/7 broadcast. How to start a sleep-sounds live in the YouTube app
- Check live access. Confirm that the channel meets the subscriber, verification, restriction, and live-streaming requirements above. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Open the live workflow. In the YouTube app, tap Create, then Live.
- Set up the broadcast. Enter the stream details and choose the available settings that fit your channel. YouTube’s mobile instructions also provide a calendar flow for scheduling a live in advance.
- Check the audio and start. Make sure the sleep sounds are playing as intended, then start the live. Keep in mind that starting from a phone does not establish that the app, device, power, or connection will remain uninterrupted for a full day.

Why a single phone live is a poor fit for a 24/7 archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That means a single 24-hour broadcast is not a dependable way to create a complete replay. If you need an archive, YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup; check the archive guidance before choosing a broadcast length: Archive live streams.

YouTube positions mobile streaming for general mobile live use and encoder streaming for advanced production and external audio/video hardware. For an ongoing feed, compare the phone workflow with an encoder or cloud studio, and verify the provider’s current continuity, recovery, monitoring, and archive features rather than assuming they are included. YouTube’s encoder guidance names Upstream in the context of 24/7 live video; that mention is not an endorsement or a reliability guarantee. See YouTube Help: Choose your live encoder.
Clear the sleep audio before streaming
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, and the broadcast can be interrupted or terminated if the content remains. A license alone may not prevent an interruption: YouTube says a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.

YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights, including music licenses. Before going live, secure and document permission for the exact audio and for its intended live use; also confirm whether the permission covers any archived replay. Troubleshooting
- The Live option is unavailable: Check the 50-subscriber minimum, channel verification, live-streaming activation, and any restriction in the previous 90 days. If you have just enabled live streaming for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours.
- The broadcast stops unexpectedly: The cited YouTube mobile guidance does not promise unattended continuity. Check the device, app, power, and connection, or evaluate an encoder or cloud provider’s recovery behavior before relying on it for continuous programming.
- The stream is replaced or terminated: YouTube may have detected third-party material. Review the rights for the exact audio and ask the rights holder whether your channel must be allowlisted in Content ID.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: Check YouTube’s 12-hour archive guidance. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured; keep a local recording if a complete archive matters.
