If live chat replay is missing from a 24/7 YouTube stream, first check whether YouTube created an archive. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, and chat replay is attached to the archive. If the archive exists, check its replay setting, audience designation, editing history and policy notices; then view it on YouTube’s watch page with Live chat selected.
1. Check whether YouTube created an archive
In YouTube Studio, go to Content and open the Live tab. Find the ended broadcast and see whether it has a video archive. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is a possibility, not a guarantee: check the individual broadcast rather than assuming every 24/7 stream lacks an archive. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
If no archive exists, there is no archived video on which to play chat replay. A local recording can preserve the video as a backup, but it cannot restore chat replay to a YouTube archive that was never created.
2. Turn on replay for an existing archive
YouTube says Live chat replay is on by default for live streams and is available alongside stream archives. If the archive exists but replay is off, check the video’s customization setting:

- In YouTube Studio, open Content and select Live. You can also start at youtube.com/my_videos.
- Select the archived stream.
- Open the video’s Customization tab.
- Check that Live chat replay is selected, and save any change.

3. Check whether the stream was marked Made for Kids
If the stream was designated Made for Kids, YouTube disables Live chat and Live chat replay. Check the video’s audience setting in Studio. If the designation is correct, replay is not a setting you can simply switch back on while that restriction applies; do not change the audience designation unless it accurately reflects the content and intended audience. 4. Check whether you edited the archive in YouTube Studio
YouTube states that a stream edited in Studio’s video editor will not have chat replay, regardless of which edit function was used. If the archive was edited there, toggling replay on afterward will not restore it. YouTube Help: Learn about live chat
5. Look for a policy restriction
YouTube may turn off Live chat on a video if its content or chat violates Community Guidelines, including following user reports. Review Studio for notices or restrictions related to the stream. The cited guidance does not promise a creator-side override, so a missing toggle is not proof that you can re-enable chat yourself. YouTube Help: Learn about live chat

6. Make sure you are viewing the replay in the right place
Open the archived video on its YouTube watch page—not in an embedded player—and use the chat selector to choose Live chat rather than Top chat. Top chat filters messages, so it may not show everything; Live chat is the unfiltered view. If messages appear there, replay was not missing: the viewing context or filter was the issue. YouTube’s archive guidance makes a continuous stream longer than 12 hours a risk for archive capture. If retaining the video matters, keep a separate local recording; that is prudent archive insurance, not a way to recreate YouTube chat replay.
