For separate YouTube channels, pair a clearly named scene collection with the right OBS profile, then verify the active collection, profile, stream key, and feed before going live. A collection alone does not create a second independent output or guarantee unattended 24/7 operation.
What scene collections do—and what they do not
OBS Project’s Scene Collections guide says collections save scenes and sources so you can keep distinct setups and switch between them. A collection can hold a channel’s opening slate, main layout, break screen, and ending scene. It also includes Global Audio Sources configured in Settings → Audio, so check those sources if channels need different audio arrangements.
Output and destination settings belong to OBS profiles, not scene collections. OBS Project’s Profiles guide says a profile saves stream settings, video settings, and output settings, but does not store scenes. Profiles and collections can be mixed and matched: think of the collection as the visual/source setup and the profile as the streaming configuration.
Do OBS scene collections save my YouTube stream settings? No. Use an OBS profile for stream and output settings, including the connected account, and verify the destination separately from the active scene collection.

Set up a collection and profile for each channel
- Create a channel-specific collection. In OBS, open the Scene Collection menu and choose New. Give the collection an unmistakable channel name, then add that channel’s scenes and sources. OBS also documents Duplicate, Rename, Remove, Import, and Export in the collection menu. Export a backup before substantial changes or migration.
- Check audio sources. Open Settings → Audio and review Global Audio Sources. A shared microphone, desktop audio device, or other global source can carry into a collection even when the on-screen layout differs.
- Create the corresponding output profile. Use the Profile menu to create or select a profile for the channel’s stream configuration. Set the relevant stream destination and output/video options there. Name the profile so it is easy to match to the collection, for example “GameChannel – YouTube.”
- Pair and verify both before starting. Select the intended scene collection and profile, then check the stream destination and key in the profile’s stream settings. Changing collections does not change the YouTube channel destination. A short preflight checklist helps avoid launching one channel’s visuals with another channel’s output settings.
Connect each profile to the correct YouTube channel
- In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream for the intended channel. YouTube’s encoder setup guide says to enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream for the active profile, select the YouTube service or configure the provided server, and enter the matching server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. Interface labels may vary by OBS version.
- Keep each channel’s key private. YouTube Help describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Only a channel owner or manager can reset a key; reset it if you believe it has been exposed. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
- Before going live, confirm that the active profile contains the intended channel’s destination and that the collection shows that channel’s scenes. Check the YouTube Studio preview before starting the public broadcast.
YouTube says first-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available. Its guidance also says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction within the preceding 90 days. Confirm current eligibility in YouTube Studio and YouTube’s live streaming help, since platform rules and interface details may change.
Test continuity, bandwidth, and the archive plan
Test each channel setup before relying on it
OBS recommends testing settings, stream smoothness, and scenes before the first live broadcast. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends previewing the feed, confirming it can be reached through the channel or watch page, and monitoring audio and video quality. Run those checks for each collection/profile pairing, not just once for the whole OBS installation. A successful test confirms the setup at that time; it is not a 24/7 uptime guarantee.

Budget upload capacity for simultaneous feeds
YouTube’s streaming tips say total outbound stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommend 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate. If multiple feeds are running at once, add their outbound bitrates and plan capacity for that combined total plus the recommended headroom. This is an application of YouTube’s total-bitrate guidance, not a separate YouTube-published multi-channel threshold. A network disruption can interrupt a stream.
Do not assume a single 24-hour archive
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. That does not establish that one continuous 24-hour feed will produce a complete single archive. If a complete recording matters, check current YouTube archive behavior and consider whether separate sessions or a local recording workflow meets the need. The cited guidance does not settle every archive outcome for streams at or above 12 hours.

What OBS scene collections cannot solve for simultaneous 24/7 channels
Collections and profiles organize settings; they are not, by themselves, independent simultaneous stream outputs. The OBS and YouTube documentation described above does not establish a supported architecture for running multiple independent YouTube feeds from one OBS process, nor does it specify unattended recovery after a computer or network interruption. Do not assume that creating multiple collections launches multiple channels at once.
Before choosing an architecture, establish the OBS version, operating system, number of simultaneous feeds, required isolation of scenes/audio/output, available upload bandwidth, restart and failover needs, and archive segmentation requirements. Then verify a supported configuration for that exact setup. Without that information, it would be misleading to prescribe a one-instance-per-channel or other multi-output procedure.

Troubleshooting channel mix-ups and interruptions
- The right scenes appear, but the wrong channel goes live: the collection controls scenes and sources, not the destination. Stop before going live, select the intended profile, and verify its YouTube server URL and stream key.
- The wrong overlay or media appears: check the active scene collection and confirm the starting scene and sources belong to the intended channel.
- Audio carries over between channel setups: review Settings → Audio and the collection’s Global Audio Sources, then test the resulting feed.
- YouTube does not accept the encoder feed: verify that the selected YouTube stream is the intended one and that its current server URL and key were entered in the active profile. If a key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the profile.
- The feed drops or becomes unstable: monitor the YouTube preview and audio/video, check whether total outbound bitrate exceeds upload capacity, and account for YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Network interruptions can break a feed, so do not treat an earlier test as a guarantee of continuous operation.
- A 24-hour stream is not available as one complete archive: YouTube’s documented automatic-archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours. Check current behavior and plan recording or session segmentation around the archive you need.
