For a mostly static devotional playlist, start with OBS set to YouTube over RTMPS, H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and stereo AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. Use 720p30 at 3 Mbps if your upload connection is constrained, or 1080p30 at 5 Mbps if your computer and connection can sustain it. These are YouTube’s recommended encoder targets, not a guarantee of stable streaming; test your actual audio and visuals before going public.
Recommended OBS settings for a Marathi devotional stream
These starting values suit a playlist with a still image or gentle visual loop. They are configuration recommendations based on YouTube’s published encoder guidance, not a tested OBS preset. Choose a profile your computer can encode and your upload connection can hold continuously.

Use 720p if the upload connection is limited; use 1080p if both the encoder and connection can sustain its higher bitrate. Run an upload speed test and leave capacity for audio and network variation instead of using the entire measured upload rate for video. YouTube’s bitrate table describes encoder targets; it does not certify your connection’s stability.
Set up YouTube and OBS, then test privately
- Check channel eligibility. Enable live streaming on the channel. YouTube says the channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days; the person streaming must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Create an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule an encoder stream and copy its stream details into OBS. Keep the stream key private: YouTube describes it as being like the stream’s password and address. See Manage live stream settings.
- Configure OBS. In the stream settings, choose YouTube and RTMPS where available; set the video encoder, CBR, frame rate, keyframe interval, and bitrate from the table. Configure stereo audio and Rec. 709 if the stream is SDR. Exact OBS menu labels can vary by version and encoder.
- Build a simple scene. Add a licensed still image or gentle loop and the playlist audio. Confirm the intended media or desktop audio source is active, and check that an unintended microphone, system sound, or notification is not being sent.
- Run a private or unlisted test. Test with audio and movement like the planned broadcast. Check YouTube’s Live Control Room preview before starting, then monitor the audio and video quality throughout the test. See YouTube’s encoder guidance and live-streaming tips.
- Monitor and shut down cleanly. Watch YouTube stream health and OBS’s dropped-frame indicator. YouTube’s operational tips describe stopping the event from Live Control Room and then stopping the encoder.
Get permission for the exact songs and visuals
Do not assume a bhajan, abhang, kirtan, devotional recording, image, or video is free to stream because it is traditional, old, online, credited, or labeled “free.” A composition and a particular recording can have different rights. Confirm permission for the exact audio and visual material, including the intended live use and any replay or archive.

YouTube’s livestream terms say the content provider warrants having all necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and confirm rights with the relevant owners.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If detected content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. For licensed third-party material, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license alone may not prevent interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. YouTube describes copyright-safe music as public-domain music or music used with the copyright owner’s permission. Its guidance recommends the YouTube Audio Library, original music, or properly licensed third-party music; attribution or a “free” label by itself does not establish that a track is safe to use. Choose 720p30 or 1080p30
- Choose 720p30 when the connection or encoding computer needs a lighter profile. YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrate is 3 Mbps; its stated minimum is 2 Mbps.
- Choose 1080p30 when the artwork’s detail matters and the connection and encoder can reliably sustain the higher rate. YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrate is 5 Mbps; its stated minimum is 4 Mbps.
For a mostly static scene, the higher resolution may make little practical difference to the visual experience. Make the choice based on the artwork, encoding capacity, and sustained upload stability rather than resolution alone.

Troubleshoot common stream problems
- OBS shows dropped frames or a yellow/red connection indicator: OBS says this indicates an unstable connection or one that cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Lower the bitrate or output resolution, then test again. See OBS dropped-frame troubleshooting.
- YouTube preview has no sound: Check that OBS is capturing the playlist’s actual media or desktop audio source, that the source is not muted, and that the preview is monitoring the intended scene. Make another private test before a public event.
- Unexpected voice, alerts, or system sounds are audible: Disable or mute the unintended microphone or desktop-audio source, then verify the mix in a test stream.
- The stream is interrupted over a song or visual: A Content ID match may trigger interruption. Confirm the rights for that exact recording or image and ask the licensor about channel allowlisting when applicable; credit in the description does not resolve a rights issue.
- The encoder connects but the broadcast is unstable: Compare the selected bitrate with sustained upload capacity, reduce the output profile if needed, and repeat a representative test while watching stream health.
