To make a 24/7 YouTube stream of rain on a tin roof in India, prepare original or properly licensed rain audio and visuals, enable YouTube Live on an eligible channel, then send the program to YouTube through an encoder. You can run the encoder on a local computer or use a cloud service to play uploaded recordings. “24/7” is the intended schedule, not a guarantee against outages: plan for monitoring and recovery, and do not assume a stream longer than 12 hours will be archived in full.
Choose how the rain will be captured and played
First decide whether the stream should reflect actual weather or provide a consistent ambience track. The choice affects the source material, equipment and how you handle interruptions.

For an original recording, a portable field recorder is one option; Zoom describes the H1essential as a content-creator and sound-effects recorder with onboard X/Y microphones and USB microphone capability. It is an example, not a tested or required purchase. If you already have suitable rights-cleared audio, extra recording equipment is unnecessary.
Check YouTube Live eligibility before building the setup
YouTube Help says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; the streamer must be at least 16. Clear the audio and picture for live use
Use your own rain recording and visuals, or obtain written permission that covers the live broadcast and any replay. Keep a copy of the permission or license. A “royalty-free” label by itself does not show whether a particular live use, looping use or replay is covered; read the actual terms.
YouTube Help says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If a match is identified, YouTube may replace the live image with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the content. A continuing match can interrupt or terminate the stream. Even licensed material may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID. Set up the encoder and start the stream
- Prepare the program. In your encoder, create a stable scene or prepared loop with the rain visual and audio. Check that the sound is audible without distortion and that the picture is framed as intended.
- Run a short test. Make a private or unlisted test stream to inspect audio, picture and connection continuity before announcing the public stream. This is a practical check, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation.
- Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. Open Go Live and create a stream for encoder software. YouTube provides a server/stream URL and stream key for the encoder connection. The watch page is created after the encoder starts sending content.
- Enter the connection details. In the encoder’s stream settings, select the service or custom-server option as appropriate, then enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it could send a feed to your stream.
- Start sending and verify the preview. Start the encoder, then check YouTube Studio’s live preview and stream health before treating the public broadcast as ready.
YouTube lists OBS among its verified encoder options and supports hardware encoders as well as software encoders. Software is a flexible way to begin without dedicated encoder hardware; a hardware encoder is a separate equipment route. Keep a 24/7 schedule operating through interruptions
A continuous stream depends on the full chain: source playback or capture, encoder, power, internet connection and YouTube ingest. Decide who will notice a failure and what they can do to restore the feed. Monitor the Studio preview and stream health, and make site-specific plans for backup power and connectivity; needs vary by location, and no India-wide runtime or hardware recommendation is established here.

- If the encoder stops, restart the program and confirm that YouTube receives a feed again.
- If the connection drops, restore connectivity and check the encoder-to-YouTube connection before assuming the broadcast has resumed.
- If picture or audio disappears while the feed remains connected, inspect the source scene, playback and audio routing.
- If YouTube flags third-party content, investigate the match and rights before resuming the same material.
YouTube’s current encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not promise viewers that one continuous broadcast longer than 12 hours will produce a complete replay. If a complete replay matters, consider separate shorter sessions or a separate recording workflow, and check YouTube’s current archive guidance. The 12-hour guidance was checked on 2026-10-03.

Keep copyright clearance separate from monetization
Permission to use a recording does not by itself make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube says live monetization is available to creators in the YouTube Partner Program, and channel monetization policies apply across the channel. A minimally changed loop or reused material can create monetization risk even when you have permission to use it. Build the stream around original recordings and meaningful creative contribution, check the current YouTube channel monetization policies, and do not treat monetization or revenue as guaranteed.
