One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchTo run a 24/7 rain-sounds stream with OBS, create a scene with a black video source and rain audio you have permission to stream, connect OBS to YouTube, then check YouTube’s preview and stream health. Keeping it online continuously also requires a dependable PC, power and internet connection—and a plan for recovering if any part fails.
Before you go live: prepare the video and audio
Use rain audio you are authorized to stream
Choose a recording you made yourself or have permission to use for a YouTube livestream. Ambient or nature sounds are not automatically free of rights restrictions. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning, and unresolved material can interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Even licensed content may require its owner to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s guidance on live-streaming restrictions and confirm any license covers continuous public streaming.
Make a black visual source
Your OBS scene needs a video source that outputs a black frame. A simple option is an image file filled with solid black: add it as an Image source, select the file, and size or stretch it to cover the canvas. You can also use another OBS source that produces a solid color, if available in your installed version. Keep the black source below any elements you intentionally want visible. For a truly black-screen stream, do not add overlays, alerts or other visible sources.
Set up the rain audio
Add the authorized recording to the scene as a Media Source, select the file, and enable looping so playback restarts at the end. Check OBS’s audio mixer while it plays: the meter should respond, but should not remain in the red. Listen to the output before going live. If you want uninterrupted sound, use a recording long enough to avoid an obvious short loop, and listen for clicks or silence at the file’s end and beginning.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Connect OBS to YouTube and start the stream
- Set up the YouTube live broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream workflow and create or select a broadcast. Follow the current on-screen steps to obtain its stream key or connect your YouTube account. YouTube’s labels and layout can change; the OBS Project’s streaming tutorial explains the general connection process, but its interface directions date from 2015 and are illustrative, not current UI documentation.
- Connect OBS. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and either connect your account if that option is offered or enter the server and stream key supplied by YouTube. Treat the stream key like a password: do not share it, and reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Check the scene and audio. Confirm the black source fills the canvas, the rain recording is playing and looping, and the audio meter is active without clipping. Check that no unwanted desktop or microphone audio is being sent.
- Start the encoder feed. In OBS, select Start Streaming. Then return to YouTube Studio and inspect the incoming preview and the stream’s status or health feedback. An OBS connection by itself does not confirm that the viewer-facing broadcast is healthy. Follow YouTube’s live setup and preview workflow; the OBS tutorial also describes checking the preview, though its UI guidance is dated.
- Make the broadcast public when ready. Use YouTube Studio’s current controls to start or publish the broadcast, if the workflow requires a separate action. Confirm the public watch page is playing before leaving the stream unattended.
Choose settings without guessing at a universal preset
There is no established, current official preset specifically for a static black-screen rain stream. The right output settings depend on your source, encoder, upload capacity and YouTube’s current guidance. Use the settings YouTube presents for your broadcast and monitor the result instead of copying a resolution, frame rate or bitrate as if it were right for every connection.
- Resolution and frame rate: A fixed black image does not need motion detail, but your chosen output still has to be supported by the encoder and connection. Check YouTube’s current recommendations for your selected output mode.
- Bitrate: Set a bitrate your sustained upload connection can carry with room for variation. A connection that is marginal at the configured bitrate can cause delivery problems.
- Audio: Verify the rain is audible in YouTube’s preview and that OBS’s audio meter is not clipping. Avoid adding an unnecessary microphone or desktop-audio source.
- Keyframes and encoder options: Use current YouTube guidance for the selected stream format and the options exposed by your encoder. The available sources do not establish special keyframe or encoder values for this particular static-image use.
Keep a home-PC stream running and recover from problems
A home setup depends on the PC and OBS staying active, power remaining available, and the internet connection sustaining the configured stream. A UPS can help through a brief power interruption, but only for as long as its battery lasts; it cannot fix an internet outage or encoder failure. For a long-running broadcast, check the PC’s sleep and restart behavior, prevent accidental shutdowns, and make sure OBS can access the media file for the entire session.

Watch OBS’s connection and dropped-frame indicators and YouTube Studio’s preview and health feedback. OBS says dropped frames can rise when the connection to the streaming destination is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. If the broadcast disconnects, identify whether the problem is power, the local network, upload capacity, OBS or YouTube before restarting; then confirm the preview and public watch page recover.
Know the archive limitation before relying on a replay
iTechGuides says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. That threshold is from a third-party practical guide, not independently confirmed here by an official YouTube source. Check YouTube’s current behavior before relying on one continuous 24-hour broadcast to produce a complete replay. If preserving the rain recording matters, keep your original file and do not treat the live archive as your only copy.

Troubleshooting a black-screen rain stream
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Black screen, but no rain audio | The audio file is not playing, is muted, or is not routed to the stream. | Check the Media Source’s playback and loop options, the OBS audio mixer mute state and meter, and YouTube’s preview. Restart playback and confirm the file is accessible. |
| Rain audio plays, but the image is not black | A source is covering the black image, or the black image does not fill the canvas. | Check source order and transform/size in the OBS preview. Hide unintended sources and resize the black source to cover the output. |
| OBS shows rising dropped frames | The connection to YouTube may be unstable or unable to sustain the configured bitrate. | Check OBS’s connection indicator, test the stability of the internet connection, and reduce the bitrate if your sustained upload cannot carry it. Confirm stream health again in YouTube Studio. |
| YouTube preview is missing, delayed or unhealthy | The encoder feed may not have arrived correctly, or YouTube may be reporting a stream issue. | Verify the selected YouTube destination and stream key in OBS, then inspect the current YouTube Studio preview and health feedback. A connected encoder is not proof that the public broadcast is healthy. |
| The stream stops after a power or internet interruption | A home stream depends on the PC, power and network remaining available; a brief outage can break the chain. | Restore the failed component, check that OBS is streaming again, and confirm the YouTube preview and public watch page. A UPS only covers power for its available runtime, not network or encoder failures. |
| YouTube replaces the stream or warns about content | Its live-content scan may have matched third-party material. | Check the rights for the recording and contact the rights holder about authorization and any Content ID allowlisting requirement. Do not assume that ambient audio is exempt from copyright checks. |
