A growing Dropped Frames (Network) count points to the connection between your computer and the streaming service, or a bitrate your connection cannot sustain. An Encoding Overloaded warning is a separate performance problem. If OBS shows no dropped frames but viewers report buffering, investigate playback and platform conditions instead.
For a meditation stream running around the clock, diagnose the specific symptom before changing settings. No single OBS setting guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 stream.
Identify what is actually failing
OBS sends the stream directly from your computer to the streaming service; OBS does not relay it through OBS streaming servers. Its connection guide says it is “extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames.” A rising network-dropped-frames counter usually means the delivery connection is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate, not necessarily that OBS itself is defective. - Dropped frames: investigate network delivery, ingest server, bitrate, and network software or equipment.
- Encoding overload or choppy output: investigate rendering and encoder workload; changing the ingest server alone is unlikely to fix it. OBS Project’s Encoding Performance Troubleshooting guide
- Viewer buffering while OBS reports no drops: investigate the viewer’s connection or device, stream bitrate, and platform transcoding. OBS Project’s Stream Buffering Troubleshooting guide
Fix network-related dropped frames

Confirm the counter and connection status
Open OBS’s Stats view and watch whether the dropped-frames count rises while the stream is running. A past total does not by itself establish that the current connection is still failing; observe whether it continues to increase.

Test the streaming server or route
In OBS, open Settings → Stream and try another available server. If appropriate, test another streaming service as a diagnostic: this can help distinguish a service- or route-specific issue from a broader connection problem, but it is not a proven permanent remedy. For Twitch on Windows, the OBS guide recommends TwitchTest to compare server quality.

Set a bitrate your upload can sustain
OBS says bitrate depends on both stable upload speed and the platform’s limits. Its connection guide suggests starting at 75% of total upload speed. Treat that as a starting point, not a guarantee: upload capacity can vary, and platform limits still apply. If drops persist, reduce bitrate and check whether the counter stabilizes.

Review OBS network settings and other software
On Windows, OBS documents enabling Network Optimizations and TCP pacing. Check Bind to IP is set to Default. As a diagnostic only, try IPv4 Only; if that makes no difference, restore the setting that permits both IPv4 and IPv6.

VPNs, security software, bundled network “optimization” utilities, and outdated network drivers can also contribute. Do not leave security software disabled. If a test shows it is responsible, add an OBS exception and re-enable protection. Avoid general-purpose network optimizers as a blanket fix: OBS warns that connection-tweaking software can deprioritize OBS traffic.

Prefer Ethernet and check the local path
OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi may be unstable. Restart the modem and router, and check the cable, network card, router, switch, extender, and other devices in the connection path. Replace hardware only when diagnosis points to a fault; a new cable will not fix an excessive bitrate, an ingest problem, ISP congestion, or encoder overload. OBS advises contacting your ISP if you are unsure before replacing equipment.

Use Dynamic Bitrate only as a fallback
OBS’s beta Dynamic Bitrate option can lower bitrate when the connection cannot keep up. That may reduce network drops by trading away video quality, but OBS says it does not address the underlying cause.

Ask your ISP about persistent route or congestion problems
If local settings and equipment checks do not resolve the issue, the cause may be congestion or routing changes outside your computer and home network. Contact your ISP rather than assuming a setting in OBS can correct an external network problem.
Fix encoding overload separately
If OBS shows an encoding-overloaded warning rather than a rising network-dropped-frames count, reduce the work required to render or encode the stream. The exact bottleneck depends on the system and scene, so change one costly element at a time and observe the result. OBS’s encoding performance guide recommends these avenues:

- Close applications that heavily use the GPU.
- Simplify scenes and reduce costly filters or browser sources.
- If needed, lower output resolution or frame rate.
- On Windows, try running OBS as administrator; OBS notes this may help with GPU overload.
These are workload adjustments, not network fixes. If the network-dropped-frames counter is the problem, follow the network steps above.

When OBS shows no drops but viewers see buffering
OBS may deliver its stream without dropping frames while an individual viewer still buffers. Ask whether the issue affects one viewer or several, and check their bandwidth and playback devices. Consider the stream bitrate and whether the platform is transcoding the stream for different playback qualities. Lowering bitrate or output quality may help some viewers, but reduces the quality you send.
OBS’s Help Portal explains that it may drop frames to avoid buffering and keep the stream playing. That behavior makes the OBS counter useful for diagnosis, but a clear counter does not prove every viewer has a smooth playback connection. OBS Project Help Portal
Keep a 24/7 meditation stream stable over time
The OBS troubleshooting guidance does not prescribe a separate configuration for 24/7 streams. Apply the appropriate network or performance fix, then monitor the relevant OBS statistics during operation. A long-running schedule does not make a bitrate, route, or computer workload inherently reliable; avoid treating one successful test as a guarantee of continuous delivery.

For meditation content, also make sure the video and audio are yours to stream or that you have the necessary rights. YouTube may act on copyrighted material; a continuous schedule does not exempt a channel from copyright rules or platform policies. Do not assume that permission to listen to music personally includes permission to rebroadcast it.
