To run recorded medical lectures as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, send a continuous, authorized video feed from an encoder or cloud playout service to a stream created in YouTube Studio. YouTube Live does not itself loop a lecture playlist: your chosen encoder or service must keep sending video, and you need a separate plan for preserving replays of broadcasts longer than 12 hours.
Before you start: confirm the channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. If this is the channel’s first live stream, activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the intended launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and encoder setup guidance.
Choose how the lecture feed will run
Local software or hardware encoder
You can use software on a computer or a standalone hardware encoder. In either case, the device must remain powered, connected, and configured to send the lecture feed continuously. A local setup gives you direct control, but continuity depends on the device, network, power, and someone being able to respond to failures.
Cloud playout service
A cloud service can play prerecorded videos or playlists without requiring a home computer to stay on. YouTube’s encoder directory lists services, including one described as supporting 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streaming. That listing is not a comparative reliability assessment or an endorsement for medical education. Before choosing a provider, check playlist and looping behavior, recovery and monitoring, supported quality, key and file security, long-stream replay options, and total cost.

Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create a new encoder stream or schedule one for the intended start time. Follow the current prompts to set its title, visibility, and other stream details.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. Enter them in the encoder or cloud service’s YouTube destination settings. Use RTMPS when available; YouTube recommends it to encrypt the data sent to and through Google’s servers. The encoder setup page explains the connection flow.
- Protect the key. Treat it like a password: anyone who has it can send a feed to the stream. Don’t put it in a public playlist, document, or screenshot. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the replacement.
- Start the encoder feed and check the preview. Confirm that Live Control Room receives the correct video and sound before starting the broadcast. Then verify the public or unlisted watch page on the kinds of devices your audience will use.
Set quality for a stable continuous feed
There is no single best resolution or bitrate for every lecture stream. Pick settings that your source files, encoder, and sustained upload connection can support, then test them. YouTube transcodes incoming streams into formats for viewers, so choosing the highest possible input quality is not automatically better if it makes the feed unstable.
- Check outbound upload capacity, not just download speed. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% upload headroom above the stream bitrate to account for variation and other network use.
- Use the encoder’s YouTube-compatible codec and bitrate settings, and configure keyframes as recommended in YouTube’s current encoder guidance. Confirm that the output matches what your encoder and connection can sustain.
- Test representative lecture footage, including the clearest and most demanding audio and motion. Check for clipping, silence, frozen frames, and sync problems.
- Review Live Control Room’s preview and stream-health messages before launch and monitor picture and sound during operation. A reliable wired connection can help where practical.

Keep the broadcast going—and plan replays separately
A 24/7 broadcast only stays live while the encoder or cloud playout service continues sending a feed. Decide who or what will monitor stream health, how a failed connection will be detected, and what recovery process will restart the feed. Test failure and recovery procedures before relying on the channel for a scheduled audience.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its setup guidance does not promise a complete automatic archive for a continuous broadcast that runs longer. If viewers need a replay, preserve the original lecture files and validate a separate recording or publishing workflow rather than assuming a full-length live archive will be available. Clear rights and review medical claims before going live
Rights in the full recording
Confirm that you have the necessary rights to stream the lecture and every embedded element, including slides, music, video clips, images, and guest contributions. Educational use or public availability does not by itself establish permission. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a placeholder may replace the feed, and a stream may be interrupted or terminated if a match remains. Even when you have a license, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent interruptions. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
Medical misinformation policy
YouTube’s medical misinformation policy applies to live streams as well as videos and other features. It prohibits content that poses a serious risk of egregious harm by contradicting local health-authority guidance on covered prevention or treatment topics. Educational, scientific, documentary, or artistic context can matter in some cases, but calling something a medical lecture does not automatically make every claim permissible. Review the claims against relevant local health-authority guidance and the current YouTube medical misinformation policy.

Monetization is conditional
YouTube documents ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as live-stream revenue features. They depend on the channel being monetized and the relevant features being enabled or eligible. YouTube does not guarantee that ad slots will serve, and a 24/7 prerecorded stream does not automatically qualify for monetization. See YouTube’s monetization guidance.
Troubleshoot common problems
- Live Control Room shows no incoming feed: Check that the encoder is running, the correct stream URL and current key are entered, and the channel has live access. If the key was reset, replace it in the encoder.
- Feed drops or stream health degrades: Compare the encoder’s bitrate with sustained upload capacity, reduce settings if the connection cannot hold them, and check other network use. Review encoder and Live Control Room health messages.
- Video is present but audio is missing or poor: Check the encoder’s audio input and track selection, source levels, mute state, and representative test playback. Verify audio in the preview before going live.
- A copyright placeholder appears or the stream is interrupted: Identify the matched material, confirm rights for it, and resolve the claim. If licensed, ask the rights holder about adding the channel to its Content ID allowlist.
- The live stream ends unexpectedly: Check whether the local device lost power or network access, or whether the cloud service stopped sending. Review the configured recovery process and test how a restarted feed appears to viewers.
- The full broadcast is missing from archives: Do not assume that a stream running beyond YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic archive condition will produce a complete replay. Use the separate recording and replay plan you validated before launch.
