To build a 24/7 YouTube focus-music radio channel with rotating visuals, you need three things: music rights that cover your exact use, an encoder or cloud service that can send a continuous stream to YouTube, and a tested way to keep the audio and visuals running independently. For a do-it-yourself setup, OBS can combine a music playlist with a separate visual rotation; for less dependence on a computer and home internet, StreamNeo can loop a pre-produced video from the cloud.
Plan the stream before you go live
A 24/7 stream is a continuous broadcast, not a guarantee from YouTube that your channel will stay live without interruption. Decide what viewers will hear and see, how the stream will recover if something stops, and how you will check it while it is running.
- Audio: choose tracks you have permission to use in a YouTube live stream, and decide whether they should play in a fixed order or shuffle.
- Visuals: prepare a set of images or videos and decide how frequently they should change. Keep them separate from the audio playlist if you want to change one without restarting the other.
- Operation: decide whether an always-on local computer and internet connection are acceptable, or whether you want a hosted option.
- Archive: decide whether you want YouTube to archive the live stream. Rights to broadcast do not automatically establish rights to keep or monetize an archive.
YouTube for Artists reported that, on average, over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025. That is broad platform context, not evidence of demand for focus-music radio or a forecast of likely viewers for a particular channel.
Enable live streaming and clear music rights
Enable your channel in advance
YouTube for Artists advises enabling live streaming and verifying the account at least 24 hours before a first live session. Complete that step before you schedule a launch; do not assume a newly enabled channel can go live immediately.

Get permission for the actual broadcast
For every track, retain written license or permission records and confirm that the terms cover YouTube live streaming, your intended territories, monetization if applicable, repeated playback, and any archived video. A label such as “royalty-free” does not by itself establish that all of these uses are permitted.
If a rights holder or distributor uses Content ID, ask them to allowlist your YouTube channel where relevant. YouTube Help warns: “If your channel isn’t added to their allowlist, your live stream can be interrupted even if you’ve licensed the content.” A license and successful allowlisting are distinct; neither should be treated as a guarantee that a stream cannot be interrupted.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. If matched content remains, it may replace the picture, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. If you choose to archive a live stream, YouTube says Content ID claims on the archived stream are made after the live stream ends.
Build a do-it-yourself stream in OBS
OBS is free, open-source software. The OBS Project says it has no watermarks or other limitations and can be used commercially with no restrictions. That describes the software, not the rights to music or other content you broadcast. A local OBS setup depends on the computer, power, and network connection staying available.

1. Prepare separate audio and visual playlists
- Organize only cleared tracks into a dedicated audio playlist. Keep the written permissions and any Content ID allowlisting correspondence where you can retrieve them.
- Prepare the images or video clips for your visual rotation. Check that each file is suitable for repeated display and that you have permission to use it.
- Choose whether both lists should repeat in order or shuffle. A rotation that works in one application may not continue indefinitely when another application, the computer, or a playlist item fails, so plan to test the behavior.
2. Add sources and control them separately
- In OBS, create a scene for the radio broadcast.
- Add a media or playlist source for the music. Configure its playback behavior for the order and repeat pattern you want; verify that the audio continues across track changes.
- Add a separate media or playlist source for the visuals. Set the visual sequence independently so it can change while music continues.
- Arrange the visual source in the scene and check that it fills the intended canvas. Confirm that the music source is audible in OBS and that the visual transitions do not interrupt it.
- Use OBS’s audio controls to balance the music and prevent clipping. Listen to the output rather than relying only on the on-screen meter.
The exact way to implement two independent playlists depends on the media source and playlist tools you choose. Do not assume a particular source will loop, shuffle, advance through files, or recover after an error until you have tested it in your own scene.
3. Connect OBS to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open the live control room for the broadcast and create or select the stream.
- Copy the stream key from YouTube Studio and enter it in OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance to select a supported connection protocol and configure resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval. These settings should suit the connection and the output you have actually tested; exact numeric recommendations are not included here because they should be checked against YouTube’s current direct guidance.
- Start an unlisted test stream and confirm in YouTube Studio that the incoming video and audio are present and that stream health is acceptable before making the broadcast public.
4. Test continuity, not just picture quality
Use representative audio and visual movement in your test. Let playlists cross several transitions, listen for gaps or unwanted overlaps, and check that the visuals keep changing while the audio continues. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends testing representative content and monitoring stream health.

Before launch, also test what happens when you deliberately stop and restart OBS and when the network is briefly interrupted. Confirm whether OBS reconnects, whether the playlist resumes at the expected point, and whether the YouTube broadcast returns as intended. A test cannot guarantee future uptime, but it exposes failures you can address before relying on the stream.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose between local and hosted operation
With local encoding, OBS runs on your computer and sends the stream over your internet connection. If the computer sleeps, loses power, closes OBS, or loses connectivity, the broadcast may stop. A hosted encoder can remove the need to keep a home computer running, but evaluate its actual controls and terms rather than assuming all hosted services support the same workflow.

| What to compare | Local OBS | Hosted or managed encoder |
|---|---|---|
| Power and network | Your computer and internet connection must remain available. | Check what runs remotely and what still depends on your equipment or connection. |
| Playlist control | Test whether your chosen sources support independent audio and visual sequences. | Confirm that the service supports the playlist behavior you need, including separate control if required. |
| Recovery and restart | Test OBS and playlist behavior after a restart or network interruption. | Ask how reconnects, restarts, and failed playlist items are handled; do not assume recovery behavior. |
| Monitoring and support | Monitor OBS and YouTube Studio yourself. | Check what monitoring, alerts, and support are actually included. |
| Cost and rights | Account for the computer, power, connection, and your time; music rights remain your responsibility. | Compare the recurring cost and terms; hosting does not grant music rights. |
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping a channel live from uploaded videos. To use it for a focus-music radio stream, make a complete video that combines the music and rotating visuals, then upload that finished video or build a playlist of finished videos. StreamNeo loops the uploaded material; it does not create a live camera feed or independently rotate visuals over a separate music playlist.
- Upload a recording or build a playlist of finished videos.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded video as made, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card, once per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide. See StreamNeo for details, then start the free first day.
Preflight and troubleshoot the broadcast
Before making it public
- Confirm the channel is enabled for live streaming and the stream key in OBS matches the one selected in YouTube Studio.
- Run an unlisted test using representative tracks and visual changes.
- Check the audio at normal listening volume, the visual framing and transitions, and YouTube Studio’s stream-health indication.
- Test a planned OBS restart and a brief network interruption; observe whether the stream returns and whether both playlists resume correctly.
- Review the rights for every track and visual, including archive and monetization terms where relevant, and request Content ID allowlisting if applicable.
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | The stream key or selected broadcast may not match, or the encoder is not sending. | Compare the selected YouTube Studio stream with the OBS key, replace an exposed or outdated key, and check OBS’s connection status. |
| Video arrives but audio is missing | The playlist source may not be routed into the OBS output, or playback may have stopped. | Check the source’s playback state and OBS audio meters, then verify the sound in an unlisted test. |
| Visuals stop changing | The visual playlist may have reached its end, encountered an unreadable file, or lack the intended repeat behavior. | Test each item and the end of the sequence; adjust the source’s playlist behavior and retest. |
| Audio stops or pauses between tracks | The source may not advance or repeat as expected, or a file may fail to load. | Test every transition and inspect the source and file compatibility; do not leave the stream unattended until the failure is understood. |
| Frames drop or stream health degrades | Connection instability or bitrate constraints can affect delivery. | Check OBS and YouTube stream health, then lower the output demands or improve the connection and retest using YouTube’s current encoder guidance. |
| The live stream is interrupted after a copyright match | YouTube may have detected third-party content; a license without Content ID allowlisting may not prevent interruption. | Review YouTube’s notice, verify the relevant license and channel allowlisting with the rights holder or distributor, and do not resume the same material until the issue is resolved. |
Archive and monetization are separate decisions
YouTube for Artists lists ads, Supers, and shopping features as possible ways to earn, but availability depends on channel eligibility and the content. Music permission must also cover the intended use. Decide separately whether to archive the stream, and confirm that the rights cover the resulting video; YouTube says Content ID claims on archived live streams are made after the broadcast ends.
For further planning, StreamNeo provides an upload-time calculator, a cloud vs PC cost calculator, and a copyright safety checklist.
