If OBS audio stops when the second video begins, first find out where the silence occurs: in OBS’s audio meter, a local recording, your headphones, or the YouTube stream. That comparison separates source playback and track-routing problems from monitoring or delivery issues; the transition alone does not identify a single cause.
Find which output is silent
Make a short test that includes the first video, the transition, and the next video. Watch the relevant OBS audio meter, then listen to the local recording and the YouTube stream. Check your headphones or speakers separately: monitoring can differ from the audio sent to the stream.
| What you find | Where to investigate next |
|---|---|
| The OBS meter and local recording both go silent at the transition | Inspect media playback and source changes, then check audio-track assignment. |
| The recording is audible, but your headphones or speakers go silent | Check OBS monitoring settings; this does not by itself show that stream output is silent. |
| The recording is audible, but the YouTube stream is silent | Check stream track routing, YouTube Studio’s live dashboard, and connection or encoder evidence. |
| The meter moves, but the recording or stream is silent | Do not treat meter activity alone as proof that the source reaches the output. Check track assignment and compare the recording with YouTube playback. |
YouTube recommends checking the stream in the encoder and reviewing the local archive; if the encoder output is healthy, check the outbound connection. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.
Check OBS audio-track assignment
Open Edit > Advanced Audio Properties in OBS. Find the affected audio source and confirm that it is assigned to the track used for stream output. OBS’s interface warns that a source assigned to no audio tracks will not be audible in streams or recordings. If the source is assigned only to a different track, select the stream’s track for that source and make another test recording.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Separate monitoring from stream output
OBS distinguishes what you hear locally from what it sends to the stream. Its monitoring choices include Monitor Off, Monitor Only (mute output), and Monitoring Enabled. In particular, Monitor Only (mute output) mutes output; headphones working or failing is not enough to establish whether the stream has audio. Check the setting for the affected source and test with monitoring off, comparing the meter, recording, and YouTube playback.
Reports of monitoring problems are specific to their software versions and setups, not proof of a general cause. One report described intermittent local-monitoring loss after scene transitions on OBS 26.0.2 and Windows 10; another described Monitor and Output behaving like Monitor Only on OBS 32.0.1 and Windows 11. See OBS issue #3806 and OBS issue #12750.

Inspect what changes when the second video starts
If the local recording also loses audio, inspect the media source at the transition. Check whether it restarts, is replaced, becomes hidden, or otherwise changes as the next video begins. Compare the source’s audio meter and track assignment before and after the transition, then record another short test.
Audio stopping at the second video does not establish that OBS has a general defect that inherently silences the next video. Focus on what changes in your scene and source configuration rather than assuming the video count is the cause.

Check encoder and connection clues
If your local recording has sound but the YouTube stream does not, review YouTube Studio’s live dashboard for encoder errors and CPU load. Also check OBS logs and connection symptoms. Dropped frames indicate connection instability or an inability to sustain the configured bitrate, according to OBS’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guidance; dropped frames alone do not explain audio-only silence.
YouTube notes that poor stream audio or video can come from the quality of the sources routed to the encoder. Its troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder and local archive before investigating the outbound connection.

Common troubleshooting mistakes
- Relying on the meter alone: a moving meter does not prove that the source is assigned to the track being sent to YouTube. Confirm routing and listen to a recording.
- Confusing headphones with stream output: monitoring and output are separate. Compare a local recording with the YouTube stream.
- Changing hardware before identifying a fault: the available evidence does not point to a cable, interface, or microphone by default. Test the OBS source and routing first.
- Blaming the internet for silence without connection evidence: dropped frames are a connection clue, not a standalone explanation for audio-only failure.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a YouTube live stream without keeping OBS or a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube.
