Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →First clarify the direction: Are you receiving a stream from YouTube, or sending a GStreamer stream to YouTube? The title does not identify the pipeline, so there is no safe universal command-line fix. If the audio offset appears or grows at each loop boundary, check timestamp and segment continuity before blaming the audio device.
Why a loop can desynchronize audio and video
GStreamer does not synchronize a buffer from its timestamp alone. It uses the buffer timestamps, the preceding segment event, and the selected pipeline clock to determine when that buffer should play. The project’s synchronization documentation explains that timestamps and the preceding SEGMENT event define the transformation from buffer timestamps to running time.
A loop changes the timeline. If a file restarts with timestamps that reset, overlap, or no longer match the active segment, audio and video can land at different running times. A constant offset, a one-time jump, and an offset that accumulates with every iteration point to different problems; measure the behavior rather than applying a delay by guesswork.
Collect the details needed to diagnose it
Before changing the pipeline, record:
- Whether YouTube is the input or the destination.
- The output of
gst-launch-1.0 --version. - The complete launch line or application pipeline, including source, loop mechanism, sinks, and relevant queues.
- The source file’s container and audio/video codecs.
- The Linux audio backend and which audio and video sinks are in use.
- When the mismatch begins: before the first loop, at its boundary, or progressively across later loops.
Without the pipeline, GStreamer release, file, and timestamp trace, a specific property value, delay, or root cause cannot be confirmed.

Trace timing across one loop
- Reproduce locally. If possible, play the same file through a simple local pipeline. Compare it with a minimal pipeline using the same source and local audio and video sinks. If playback is already out of sync locally, isolate the file or pipeline before investigating YouTube.
- Log both streams near the boundary. For audio and video buffers immediately before and after a loop, inspect PTS, DTS where relevant, duration, and the active segment’s start, time, and base. Compare how each maps to running time.
- Check for a reset, jump, overlap, or drift. Note whether the mismatch is constant, occurs once when the file restarts, or becomes larger on successive iterations.
- Inspect segment events. Determine whether a new segment accompanies the next iteration and whether timestamps are interpreted against the segment that actually precedes the buffers.
- Separate local playback from the YouTube path. If local timing is sound but the sent stream is not, inspect downstream queues, encoders, muxing, and the destination path in the actual pipeline. Do not infer a YouTube-specific cause from the symptom alone.
GStreamer’s synchronization design is the basis for checking timestamps together with segment and clock behavior; the GstSegment API describes how segment-based timing works.
Check how the application loops the file
Segment seeking in a running pipeline
GStreamer supports segment seeking for seamless looping. When a segment finishes, the pipeline posts SEGMENT_DONE; that is not the same event as end of stream (EOS). Application code must handle segment completion and issue the next seek as intended. Check that the seek is accepted, the segment boundaries match the media, and the next buffers are interpreted against the expected segment.

Flushing and non-flushing seeks have different consequences for in-flight data and pipeline state. Choose based on the pipeline design and verify the event and buffer behavior around the boundary; neither option is a universal fix. See the official GstSegment documentation.
Stop and restart, or feed data through appsrc
An application-controlled restart or a producer that feeds an appsrc pipeline has more control over when data is supplied, but it must still preserve coherent timestamps and segment behavior. A stop/restart can interrupt playback at the boundary, and queued or in-flight buffers can affect what arrives next. Compare the actual timestamps and events rather than assuming a restart resets both streams in sync.

For timestamped appsrc data, use time-format operation and make the pushed buffers’ timestamps consistent with the segment. Fixed caps should describe the data being pushed. If the source is seekable, handle seek-data. If do-timestamp is enabled, account for its running-time timestamping and the min-latency requirement. Respect need-data and enough-data so the producer does not outrun or overfill the internal queue. The official pipeline manipulation guide explains appsrc behavior; its EOS handling guidance should not be confused with a segment ending.
Use converters and sinks only when the evidence points there
After checking loop timing, test format negotiation and output devices. Sink format support can differ by machine, so inspect negotiated caps and isolate the sink or Linux audio backend if timing is correct upstream but the heard output is not.

videorateadjusts video frame cadence by dropping or duplicating frames. It is relevant when the input cadence needs correction, not as a general loop-timestamp repair.audioconvertandaudioresampleadapt audio format and sample rate when compatibility requires it. They do not by themselves repair a segment or timestamp discontinuity.- Change sinks or backend only if local tests indicate a device-compatibility or output problem.
The official GStreamer playback documentation describes playback elements and output support. Avoid adding an arbitrary audio delay, setting sync=false, or changing queue sizes without evidence: those changes can mask symptoms or alter clocking rather than fix the loop.
Common symptoms and the next check
| Symptom | Check first | What it may indicate |
|---|---|---|
| Audio and video are already out of sync before looping | Test local playback and inspect the source file, caps negotiation, and sinks. | The problem may precede the loop or involve format or output compatibility. |
| Offset appears at the first loop boundary | Compare end-of-file and restart timestamps, segment state, and loop events. | A discontinuity or incorrect segment handling is a leading possibility. |
| Offset grows on each iteration | Compare audio and video running-time mapping and durations across several boundaries. | The streams may be accumulating different timing errors or being mapped inconsistently. |
| Local playback is correct, but the sent YouTube stream is not | Isolate the downstream pipeline stages and inspect their timestamps and queues. | The issue may be downstream of local playback; the title alone does not identify which stage. |
| Audio is wrong only on one machine or output device | Compare negotiated formats and test a suitable sink or audio backend. | Machine-specific sink support may be involved; verify before changing loop logic. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a YouTube live stream, rather than debug a custom GStreamer pipeline, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It keeps looping with your computer off. Every slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; the Monthly price is $9.99 per month. It is for uploaded videos, not camera-based streaming, and sends to YouTube only. Start the free first day.
