There is no single vMix preset that guarantees a 24/7 stream on Indian broadband. Choose a resolution and frame rate your connection can sustain, use YouTube’s matching H.264 bitrate recommendation, set a two-second keyframe interval, then test and monitor stream health from the location where vMix will run. YouTube’s current guidance recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps; these are encoder targets, not broadband-plan requirements or a guarantee of uninterrupted service.
Recommended vMix settings to start with
For a conservative starting point, use H.264 video and AAC audio, set the output size and frame rate to match the stream you intend to send, and enter the bitrate for that exact format. The figures below are YouTube’s published H.264 guidance, verified in 2026; they are not results from a test of Indian broadband.
| Output format | YouTube H.264 video bitrate recommendation | Keyframe interval |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| 240p–720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
Use the YouTube row that matches your actual frame rate. The 4 Mbps figure applies to 240p–720p at 30 fps; it is not a recommendation for 720p at 60 fps. If you need a different frame rate or format, consult YouTube’s live encoder settings for the matching entry rather than extrapolating from these numbers.
Resolution and frame rate
Set vMix’s stream encode size to match the production output. Choose 1920×1080 at 30 fps only if your connection and production can sustain the corresponding stream bitrate. If they cannot, lower the resolution or frame rate and select the matching YouTube recommendation. For game footage, test with the amount of movement and detail you expect during the real broadcast; a static test image does not represent a demanding scene.

Codec and encoder
H.264 is a broadly compatible starting codec for YouTube. vMix’s current Streaming Settings guide lists FFMPEG as recommended and supports H.264, AV1 and HEVC video with AAC audio. Choose FFMPEG and H.264 as a conservative baseline, then confirm codec support and stream health in YouTube Studio. Do not assume that every codec option is interchangeable across all YouTube workflows.
Keyframes and audio
Set the keyframe frequency to two seconds. YouTube recommends this interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Configure an AAC audio source in vMix and set its bitrate for your workflow; the cited YouTube guidance used here does not establish a mandatory audio bitrate for this use case, so there is no single audio number to prescribe.

Network buffer
vMix describes the network buffer as a maximum buffer that affects latency and advises increasing it when maximum network speed is unreliable. It may absorb some network variability, but it cannot create upload capacity or guarantee a continuous connection. See vMix’s Streaming Quality guide for its description of the setting.
Measure whether your broadband can sustain the stream
The relevant connection is the one at the premises and computer running vMix—not the advertised download speed or a speed test run somewhere else. YouTube Help says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” Run the test at the encoder’s location, then conduct a real stream test with representative game footage and audio. YouTube also advises monitoring stream health and reviewing messages during the event.

- Check upload performance under normal household or office network use, not only when other devices are idle.
- Test the intended resolution, frame rate, encoder and audio setup together.
- Allow more sustained upload capacity than the encoder bitrate requires. YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe a fixed headroom percentage or test duration, so do not treat a particular margin or brief test as an official guarantee.
- Watch YouTube Studio’s stream-health indicators during the test and the live event, and respond to warnings rather than assuming the selected bitrate is sustainable.
The official guidance reviewed provides no India-specific bitrate table, ISP ranking or minimum broadband-plan speed. An advertised plan speed cannot establish that a particular Indian connection will sustain a 24-hour stream: performance depends on the actual premises, network conditions and session stability.

Use a stream created in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and choose its stream settings.
- Copy the stream key shown for that stream. Treat it as a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- In vMix, open the streaming settings, select the YouTube destination or custom configuration appropriate to the workflow, and enter the stream key.
- Set the stream’s output format, bitrate, codec and keyframe interval, then start the stream from vMix and verify the incoming feed and stream health in YouTube Studio.
Start through vMix
vMix also documents selecting YouTube Live Stream Now as the destination in vMix, which can create a stream from the application. Use the settings and prompts shown in your installed version, then confirm the stream is arriving correctly in YouTube Studio. The Studio-first route offers stream-setting and scheduling choices; the in-vMix route can create a stream from vMix.
For the documented workflows and current setup guidance, see vMix’s YouTube Live setup article, last updated April 9, 2025.

Plan for the 24/7 operating risks
A 24-hour connection is not guaranteed by a setting
The encoder values and setup guides explain how to configure a stream; they do not guarantee that a vMix installation, Indian broadband plan, ISP or YouTube session will stay connected for 24 hours. Keep an eye on stream health and plan how you will notice and respond to an interruption. A network buffer can help with some variability, but it is not a substitute for a reliable sustained connection.
Do not assume a complete 24-hour archive
The sources cited here do not establish YouTube’s current automatic archive limit for continuous streams, so they cannot support a promise that a full 24-hour broadcast will be saved as a VOD. If you need an archive, confirm YouTube’s current live-stream archive behavior and plan a local recording only after checking available storage and system capacity.
Check production capacity as well as bandwidth
Resolution and frame rate affect both the stream’s upload demand and the work required of the production system. vMix documents hardware encoder availability and limitations that vary by GPU generation; check your system and the installed vMix settings instead of assuming a particular hardware encoder is available. A connection test alone cannot establish that the computer can sustain the production.
Troubleshoot common stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Stream health shows upload or bitrate warnings | The connection at the encoder’s location may not sustain the configured bitrate consistently. | Repeat an upload test at that location, check network use by other devices, and test a lower resolution or frame rate with its matching YouTube bitrate recommendation. |
| The stream does not appear in YouTube Studio | The selected destination, stream key or current workflow may not match the stream created in Studio. | Confirm the active stream in Studio, copy the correct key again, and check the installed vMix controls. If using the in-vMix creation route, follow its current prompts and verify that the stream was created. |
| Video is unstable despite adequate measured upload | A brief speed test may not reflect sustained performance, or the encoder may be under load. | Run a longer real-world test under normal network use, check system capacity and hardware encoder availability, and reduce output demands if the system cannot sustain them. |
| Unexpected latency or intermittent network variability | The current network buffer may be insufficient for the connection’s variability. | Review vMix’s buffer setting and consider increasing it as vMix describes. Re-test latency and stability; a larger buffer does not add bandwidth or guarantee continuity. |
| Audio is missing or not reaching the stream | The selected audio source or vMix audio configuration may be incorrect. | Check the selected source and AAC configuration, then confirm audio in the YouTube Studio preview during a test. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps uploaded video live without leaving a home computer running, StreamNeo is the cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not broadcast from a camera. Nothing has to stay on at home, it supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly access is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
