To keep XSplit Broadcaster running overnight, prevent Windows from sleeping while the PC is plugged in, check a laptop’s lid-close setting, and verify that XSplit’s stream or recording output has actually started. Turning off the display is fine; letting the computer sleep is not. These steps reduce avoidable interruptions but cannot guarantee an uninterrupted session, which still depends on power, the PC, XSplit and the network.
Keep Windows awake while XSplit runs
In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts. Under the plugged-in settings, set Make my device sleep after to Never, or choose a timeout longer than your planned session. Microsoft documents display and sleep timeouts separately, so you can let the screen turn off without putting the PC to sleep. Microsoft’s Windows 11 power and sleep guidance covers these controls.
If you are on Windows 10, the Settings navigation differs; do not assume the Windows 11 path or labels match your installation. Find the plugged-in sleep timeout in your Windows power settings and confirm the selected value before leaving the PC.
Check a laptop’s lid behavior
Closing a laptop lid can put the computer to sleep, even when it is plugged in. If the lid must remain closed, configure the plugged-in lid-close action separately from the sleep timeout. Microsoft’s power-options guidance explains that lid behavior can be set independently for battery and plugged-in use: adjust Windows power and sleep settings.

Keep the laptop on a firm surface with its cooling vents unobstructed. A lid setting that prevents sleep does not resolve heat, power or network problems.
Start and verify the XSplit output
Open XSplit Broadcaster, load the intended scene, choose the relevant output, and confirm that streaming or recording has started. XSplit’s setup guide describes configuring a scene and output and starting a broadcast or recording: XSplit Broadcaster setup guide.

For a scheduled YouTube live event
Create the live event in YouTube Studio before starting the XSplit output. XSplit’s instructions explain that the event’s Manual Transition setting affects whether starting the output starts the YouTube live event automatically or whether you must take a separate Go Live action. Check the event and transition behavior rather than assuming that an active XSplit output means the YouTube event is live. See XSplit’s streaming instructions.
Use scheduled macros only for the start time
XSplit’s Macros Extension can schedule a streaming or recording start by selecting an event time and a broadcast or local recording output. But Broadcaster must remain open for scheduled macros to work. A macro schedules an action; it does not keep Windows awake or check that the PC, internet connection or output stays healthy overnight. PowerToys Awake versus Windows sleep settings

Before you leave the PC
- Plug the PC into reliable power and set its plugged-in sleep timeout to Never or beyond the intended session.
- If it is a laptop and the lid will be closed, check the plugged-in lid-close action and keep cooling vents clear.
- Open Broadcaster, confirm the intended scene and output, and verify that the stream or recording has started.
- For YouTube, confirm the scheduled event exists and whether it requires a separate Go Live action.
- Run a short trial before relying on an overnight session. The cited setup instructions describe settings and workflow, not guaranteed all-night stability for a particular PC or connection.
What can interrupt an overnight session?
- Sleep or hibernation: Windows enters a power state that interrupts the running session; check the plugged-in sleep timeout.
- Lid closure: A laptop may sleep when its lid closes; verify the plugged-in lid action.
- Power interruption: The PC can shut down if it loses power. A UPS may provide short-term backup, but runtime depends on the equipment and load.
- Network interruption: An awake PC cannot maintain a live connection if the internet connection drops.
- XSplit or output failure: A running PC does not prove Broadcaster is still streaming. Check the output and YouTube event state before relying on it.
A UPS is optional and only addresses some power interruptions. It does not prevent sleep, keep the internet available, prevent XSplit from crashing or guarantee power for the full night. Select capacity based on the PC and connected equipment and the backup duration you need; no particular model or runtime is established here.
