XSplit Broadcaster Bitrate Settings for YouTube on Indian Broadband

YouTube’s H.264 targets are 8 Mbps for 720p30/60, 14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. Match XSplit to your mode and test sustained upload before going live.

For YouTube streaming with XSplit Broadcaster, choose a bitrate that matches your output resolution, frame rate and codec—and that your connection can sustain. YouTube’s current H.264 guidance recommends 8 Mbps for 720p30 or 720p60, 14 Mbps for 1080p30, and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. These are encoder targets, not a promise that your broadband can carry them reliably. Test the selected XSplit output and rehearse before streaming; if it is unstable, step down the bitrate, resolution or frame rate.

YouTube does not publish a separate bitrate table for India. Use the same platform targets as streamers elsewhere, but base your choice on the sustained upload available on your own connection and route to the ingest server—not your advertised download speed.

Choose a target bitrate for your resolution and frame rate

The figures below are YouTube’s H.264 encoder recommendations and minimums. The recommendation is a target for the video encoder, not the total upload capacity your connection must provide: audio and other network traffic also need room.

YouTube ingest mode H.264 minimum H.264 recommended
480p30 0.4 Mbps 4 Mbps
720p30 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
720p60 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1080p30 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
1080p60 6 Mbps 17 Mbps

Use the recommended value only if your connection can sustain it during a real stream. A generic speed-test result is useful context, but it does not establish that the same throughput will hold to the selected YouTube ingest route.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Start lower if you have not measured a stable upload

If you have not tested your setup, 720p30 is a sensible starting point. Run XSplit’s output test and a private rehearsal, then try a higher mode only if the stream remains stable. This is a cautious workflow based on YouTube’s targets and XSplit’s testing advice, not an official India preset.

Codec changes the target

YouTube’s table also gives different recommended video bitrates for AV1 and H.265. For the modes listed below, H.264 recommendations are higher. XSplit’s available encoders depend on your hardware, drivers and selected service, so use a codec only if it is actually offered for your output.

1080p30 14 Mbps 10 Mbps
1080p60 17 Mbps 12 Mbps

2160p30 42 Mbps 30 Mbps
2160p60 50 Mbps 35 Mbps

Do not use a value from one codec row as a universal bitrate. Match the codec, resolution and frame rate you actually select.

Set up XSplit Broadcaster for YouTube

  1. Open the YouTube output settings. In Broadcaster, edit your YouTube output and open Video Encoding.
  2. Choose an available encoder and output mode. Set the resolution and frame rate you intend to stream, then choose the matching YouTube bitrate for that codec and mode. XSplit identifies x264 as CPU-based; hardware options such as Intel Quick Sync, NVIDIA NVENC or AMD VCE depend on your system and service.
  3. Use CBR. Set bitrate control to constant bitrate. YouTube’s current live guidance recommends CBR for RTMP/RTMPS, and XSplit says most streaming platforms require it.
  4. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. This is YouTube’s recommendation; do not exceed 4 seconds.
  5. Configure audio. Use AAC where available. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS and recommends 128 kbps stereo.
  6. Prefer RTMPS. Use the encrypted protocol if the XSplit output offers it.
  7. Test the selected output’s bandwidth. Use XSplit’s Test Bandwidth control for the chosen output and ingest route. If you manually choose a server, consider average ping and jitter rather than relying on the lowest single “Last” ping.
  8. Rehearse privately. Stream representative gameplay and audio, then check YouTube’s stream health. A rehearsal should resemble the real stream: a static menu may not reveal how fast-motion gameplay looks or behaves.
  9. Adjust based on the result. If frames drop or the stream becomes unstable, lower the bitrate, resolution or frame rate, and reduce competing network traffic. If the issue is high CPU or GPU load rather than upload, lower encoding demand or stage resolution/frame rate and check system usage.

Choose settings for the connection you actually have

Broadband performance can vary by time, Wi-Fi conditions, other people using the connection and the route to YouTube’s ingest server. YouTube recommends testing upload speed and running a realistic test stream; XSplit’s selected-output test provides a separate check of the chosen service and server. Neither advertised plan speed nor a single generic test guarantees sustained streaming throughput.

  • Resolution and frame rate: higher modes require higher bitrate targets. For example, 720p60 and 1080p60 have different H.264 recommendations.
  • Codec: YouTube’s target varies by codec, and XSplit’s available choices depend on hardware, drivers and output.
  • Motion: fast gameplay can look less clean at a constrained bitrate. If lowering bitrate makes motion visibly worse, consider reducing resolution or frame rate rather than forcing an unstable connection to carry more data.
  • Network adapter: XSplit supports choosing among network adapters where that option is enabled. Ethernet may help when a Wi-Fi link is unstable, but it cannot fix ISP congestion or guarantee upload capacity.

There is no source-established India-wide upload buffer, provider ranking or city-specific preset for this setup. Measure your own connection at the time and place you plan to stream, then choose the highest mode that stays stable in rehearsal.

Troubleshoot dropped frames and an unstable stream

Symptom Likely cause What to try
Upload or network frames drop The connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate, the route is unstable, or other devices are using bandwidth. Run XSplit’s bandwidth test for the selected output; pause competing traffic; then reduce bitrate, resolution or frame rate and rehearse again.
Stream is unstable despite a good generic speed test A generic test may use a different route or capture only a short-lived result. Test the selected XSplit output and YouTube ingest route, then check stream health during a private rehearsal.
Encoder or rendering frames drop CPU or GPU load may be too high; this is distinct from insufficient network upload. Check CPU/GPU load, choose an encoder the system can handle, or reduce stage resolution and frame rate.
Fast gameplay looks blocky at a stable bitrate High motion is harder to represent at a constrained bitrate. Try a lower resolution or frame rate that has a suitable target for your connection, rather than setting a bitrate the connection cannot sustain.
Manual ingest-server choice performs inconsistently A single low ping reading may not reflect average latency or jitter. Compare average ping and jitter in XSplit’s output test rather than choosing solely by the lowest “Last” ping.
