The pricing page identifies simultaneous broadcasting and commercial use as Premium features. Check XSplit’s pricing page for current plan details. Its product page lists Windows 10 64-bit, 8 GB RAM, a second-generation Core i5 or equivalent, and DirectX 10.1-capable GeForce/Radeon-class graphics as minimum requirements. XSplit labels 500 kbps as the minimum upload for its lowest settings and recommends 5 Mbps for HD; those are vendor specifications, not a guarantee of stable 24/7 performance. How to run a local 24/7 YouTube stream with OBS
OBS is free software for encoding and sending a stream; it does not host the stream or keep your channel online if the PC, power, or internet connection fails. This workflow is for a local source such as gameplay, a camera, a screen, or media already available to OBS.

- Check YouTube access and prepare the source. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and choose the encoder workflow. Make sure the channel can go live, and prepare the game capture, camera, screen, or media source in OBS. Use only material you have the rights to stream.
- Test your upload connection. YouTube recommends choosing quality for a reliable connection and running a speed test. Leave headroom above the stream bitrate for network variation and other household traffic; the published encoder bitrate is not a promise that your ISP connection will hold steady.
- Set the encoder output to match the stream. In OBS, open Settings > Output and configure the video encoder and bitrate. In Settings > Video, choose the output resolution and frame rate you intend to send. YouTube’s H.264 guidance recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p30 and 6 Mbps for 720p60. Use the full YouTube table for the bitrate that matches your resolution, frame rate, and codec: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Use YouTube’s ingest details. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube or the relevant custom ingest option, and enter the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio. Prefer RTMPS where supported. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on stream or share it, and reset it in YouTube Studio if exposed. YouTube’s encoder setup is documented at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Start and verify the broadcast. Start streaming in OBS, then check YouTube Studio’s live control room for the incoming signal and stream health before sharing the link. Watch for dropped frames, unstable bitrate, encoder overload, or audio/video problems.
- Plan for unattended operation. Disable sleep and automatic shutdown, keep the machine ventilated, use a stable wired connection where practical, and arrange a way to notice a stopped stream. A local encoder depends on the computer, electricity, network, and software continuing to work; a UPS can help with brief power interruptions but cannot fix an ISP outage or software failure.
Settings and YouTube limits that matter for 24/7 streams
Bitrate, resolution, and frame rate
Choose a stream quality your tested upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so do not treat one bitrate as suitable for every setup. The H.264 recommendations include 5 Mbps for 1080p30 and 6 Mbps for 720p60. YouTube lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 among supported encoder video codecs and recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Consult its current encoder settings guidance for the full table.
Stream keys and ingest
The server URL and stream key connect the encoder to YouTube’s ingest system. Copy the values from the relevant YouTube Studio stream setup into the encoder, and keep the key private. If the signal does not arrive, check that the encoder is using the matching server and key, then confirm the stream is enabled in YouTube Studio. Archive and DVR are not guaranteed for a continuous broadcast
YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours. For streams longer than 12 hours, YouTube warns they may not be captured at all, so do not promise a complete VOD archive from an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. See Archive live streams. Why a 24/7 stream stops—and what to check
- No incoming signal in YouTube Studio: Confirm OBS is streaming, the selected service or ingest server is correct, and the stream key matches the active YouTube stream. Replace a key if it was exposed.
- Dropped frames or unstable stream health: Check actual upload performance, reduce bitrate or output quality to a level the connection can sustain, and avoid saturating the connection with other traffic.
- Encoder overload or choppy output: Check CPU/GPU load and OBS statistics. Lower resolution or frame rate, or use a less demanding encoder preset; then verify the output again in YouTube Studio.
- Broadcast ends when the PC is unattended: Check sleep, shutdown, updates, power interruptions, and the internet connection. A local encoder cannot recover from every failure without a person or separate recovery arrangement.
- Expected replay is missing or rewind is limited: Check the stream’s duration and YouTube’s archive and DVR behavior. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable.
