To keep Larix Broadcaster streaming while your Android screen is off, start the stream, enable Larix’s background-streaming option if it is available in your installed edition, and lock the phone without closing the app. If the stream stops, check Larix’s app-specific battery and background restrictions in Android settings; menu names and controls vary by phone maker.
Set up Larix for screen-off streaming
- Start the stream first. Open Larix Broadcaster, start your stream, and confirm it is streaming before you lock the display.
- Check Larix’s background-streaming option. Look in the app’s settings for the background-streaming feature and enable it if available. Softvelum’s current Larix for Android page lists background streaming when the app is not in focus as a premium feature. Its Android FAQ also says background operation is available by default until the app is explicitly closed. Because those statements may reflect different editions or modes, check what your installed edition offers; the available sources do not establish one universal tap-by-tap menu path. Softvelum links a dedicated tutorial from its Android page: Larix for Android.
- Lock the display without closing Larix. Press the phone’s power button to turn off the screen. Do not swipe Larix away, use an app control to close it, or otherwise explicitly close it during the stream. Backgrounding the app and closing it are different: Larix’s FAQ says background operation continues until the app is explicitly closed.
If Larix stops after you lock the phone
Check whether Android is restricting Larix’s background activity. Android’s battery and power-management guidance says the Restricted battery state prevents apps from running in the background. The exact controls and effects can vary by manufacturer, so look in your phone’s app-specific battery or background settings for Larix rather than relying on a single menu path. If Larix is restricted, change that setting if your device allows it, then test the stream again.
Turning off the screen and keeping the CPU awake are separate matters. A wake lock can keep the CPU running while the display is off, but Android cautions that wake locks can drain the battery and should be used sparingly. Do not assume one is required for Larix; first check the app’s background option and Android’s restrictions.
Know what the audio-only option does
Larix offers an audio-only capture mode that disables preview and streams from the background without video, according to Softvelum’s Android product page. It is a fallback only when your stream does not need a picture: it does not keep video streaming with the screen off.

Limits and common causes of interruption
- Edition or option mismatch: The FAQ describes background operation by default until Larix is explicitly closed, while the current Android page labels background streaming when the app is not in focus as premium. Confirm the option is available in your installed edition.
- Android background restriction: Restricted status can prevent background activity. Manufacturer-specific controls mean that changing one setting is not guaranteed to be necessary or sufficient on every phone.
- Other failures: These instructions do not guarantee recovery after a force-stop, app crash, network loss, thermal shutdown, or device-specific camera restriction. If a stream ends, check Larix and the phone’s status before starting again.
