Its VLC Video source can play a playlist on loop, while OBS handles the broadcast composition and connection to YouTube. VLC can play and stream media, but its official HTTP example is for delivery over a local network—not a documented recipe for connecting directly to YouTube Live.
Neither app makes a stream truly 24/7 by itself: with a do-it-yourself setup, the computer, files, power, and internet connection must remain available, and stream health needs monitoring.
OBS vs VLC: which should you use?

Can OBS loop a bhajan playlist on YouTube Live?
Yes. Add a VLC Video source to an OBS scene, load the files, and enable playlist looping. OBS documents that Loop Playlist is on by default; you can also use shuffle. The source depends on VLC being installed. With 64-bit OBS, OBS documents the need for 64-bit VLC.

- Install VLC with the same architecture as OBS.
- In OBS, create or select a scene, then choose Sources → + → VLC Video.
- Add the local bhajan recordings to the playlist and arrange their order. Choose loop or shuffle as needed.
- Check the OBS preview and audio mixer: confirm video advances, the playlist repeats, and the audio is audible without clipping.

Set up YouTube Live and test before the broadcast
- Confirm live access and create the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, make sure live streaming is enabled, create or schedule the live event, and choose its privacy setting.
- Connect OBS with the stream key. In the encoder setup, copy the YouTube stream key into OBS. Treat it like a password: do not share it or show it on screen.
- Check the incoming preview. Start the encoder and confirm YouTube receives the picture and sound before choosing Go Live.
- Run a short preflight test. Verify playlist advancement and looping, audio level, and a stable connection before promoting the stream. OBS recommends testing before the first broadcast.
YouTube’s live production guidance describes copying the stream key into the encoder, checking the preview, and then going live. OBS’s Quick Start Guide also recommends a short test.

What a playlist loop does—and does not—keep running
A loop repeats playback only while the playback and broadcast continue to work. In a local OBS setup, the host computer has to stay awake, the source files must remain available, and power and internet must hold. Someone should be able to notice an interruption and restart playback or the encoder. These are practical operating requirements, not a promise of unattended 24/7 service.
Watch OBS’s dropped-frame count and YouTube’s stream health. OBS explains that rising dropped frames indicate a connection that is unstable or cannot keep up with the set bitrate. Check network stability and encoder settings rather than assuming that the playlist itself is the problem. See the OBS Help Portal.

Copyright, devotional recordings, and the replay
Clear the rights for each recording
Bhajan or other devotional content is not automatically exempt from copyright. YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. A match may result in a placeholder, interruption, or termination. Obtain permission for the specific recordings and confirm it covers public live transmission and any later video-on-demand archive. A license alone may not prevent an interruption: YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and confirm allowlisting with the rights holder.
Do not assume a continuous stream will have a complete replay
A Google/YouTube Full Live Production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and advises recording longer streams for manual upload. That is guidance in a general production document, not a guarantee of current YouTube Studio behavior. If a complete replay matters, verify the current archive behavior in YouTube Studio and make a separate local recording or record segments.

VLC or OBS: common problems and fixes
- VLC Video does not appear in OBS: install VLC, then restart OBS. If using 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- The playlist plays but the YouTube broadcast is missing: local playback is not proof that the encoder is connected. Recheck the YouTube event, OBS connection, and stream key; never expose the key publicly.
- Dropped frames increase: OBS identifies this as a sign of an unstable connection or one that cannot keep up with the set bitrate. Investigate connection stability and encoder configuration, then test again.
- The playlist stops or does not repeat: review the VLC Video source’s playlist contents and loop setting, confirm the files remain accessible, and test the end-of-playlist behavior in the preview.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright match: contact the rights holder to confirm live-stream permission and, where applicable, channel allowlisting. Do not assume a license automatically prevents Content ID interruption.
