Restreamer can retry a stream process after an interruption, but its reconnect settings cannot keep a YouTube stream transmitting while your only internet connection is down. In datarhei Restreamer, enable process reconnect, choose a retry interval and a timeout for a hanging process, then save. For continuity through a complete broadband outage, you need an already configured independent connection and source path.
Configure Restreamer’s process recovery settings
Open the stream’s process settings in Restreamer and review the recovery controls documented under Processing and Control.
- Enable reconnect. Turn on the checkbox that determines whether the stream process should reconnect.
- Choose the reconnect interval. Set how many seconds Restreamer waits before trying again. The documentation does not prescribe a universal interval; validate your choice with the actual source and deployment.
- Set a timeout for a hanging process. This controls when a process that is no longer responding is terminated and marked faulty. No universal timeout value is specified, so test a suitable value before relying on it.
- Save the settings. Confirm that the process reflects the saved configuration, then test it before an important broadcast.
These are process-level retry controls. They do not provide a second internet route or promise uninterrupted delivery through a broadband outage.
What happens when broadband disconnects
If the broadband connection is completely unavailable and no other route is configured, Restreamer cannot send video to YouTube during the outage. Reconnect can let the process try again when the available path permits it, but retrying is not the same as transmitting over a failed connection.

A phone hotspot or cellular failover can be considered as a general alternate-path option, but whether it will work depends on coverage, plan, equipment compatibility and configuration at your location. The available documentation does not establish a suitable Indian carrier, device or coverage recommendation.
Reduce avoidable interruptions before going live
Match video settings to the connection
YouTube advises choosing a quality the connection can sustain, testing upload bitrate before the event, and monitoring stream health and messages while live. Test with representative audio and movement rather than relying only on an idle speed test. A more sustainable resolution, frame rate or bitrate can help when upload capacity is constrained or variable; it cannot restore a completely failed internet link. Verify the YouTube publishing setup
Restreamer’s documented YouTube setup uses the Publication Service, a valid YouTube streaming ID and Save. Before the event, confirm that the configured ID or key is correct and observe both the Restreamer process and YouTube’s stream health. Follow the Restreamer YouTube guide for the publishing workflow.
Test recovery before the real event
- Run a representative stream and confirm that YouTube receives it.
- Check that the reconnect and timeout settings have been saved and that the process reports the expected state.
- Review YouTube stream health and messages during the test.
- If you intend to rely on an alternate network path, configure and test it in advance; an unconfigured backup is not failover.
When one connection is not enough
True continuity during an ISP outage requires an independent network path that is available and correctly configured. A separate Restream service documents a two-source backup setup using two encoders and recommends two distinct network connections; its help page describes the feature as an Enterprise offering. This is separate from datarhei Restreamer’s process reconnect controls, and the documentation does not verify local Indian coverage or compatibility. Do not confuse datarhei Restreamer, the streaming software discussed here, with Restream, a separate service. Restream also documents a disconnect-protection feature that must be configured before going live and has a limited fallback window; it is not a Restreamer setting. See Restream disconnect protection for its current details.
End the broadcast carefully
If preserving YouTube’s DVR archive matters, Restreamer’s YouTube guide cautions that interrupting Restreamer mid-event may prevent YouTube from saving the archive. After the event, end the stream on YouTube first, following the guide’s workflow.
