If you want prerecorded videos to loop as a continuous YouTube live stream without leaving a computer on, look first at a managed cloud playlist service—not at another media server. If you want to build and operate streaming infrastructure yourself, compare server software and VPS hosting instead. These approaches solve different problems, and the available sources do not establish one universal winner or verify SRS’s current playlist capabilities.
First decide what you mean by an SRS alternative
SRS is described by a secondary alternatives listing as open-source real-time video and media server software for streaming infrastructure teams. That description does not establish that SRS includes an out-of-the-box playlist scheduler or that it supports a particular YouTube workflow. Its current version, protocols, deployment steps, and playlist features have not been confirmed here against official SRS documentation. Check the project’s current official documentation before choosing it or another server for a specific implementation.
For this decision, separate four jobs that are often grouped under “streaming”:
- Media-server infrastructure: software and servers an operator deploys and maintains.
- Unattended prerecorded playout: uploaded videos or a playlist run continuously as a YouTube live stream, including while your own computer is off.
- Live production: a host produces a show, often with guests, scenes, and real-time interaction.
- Multistream distribution: one live feed is sent to several platforms or destinations.
A tool designed for one job is not automatically a substitute for another. In particular, a media server listing does not prove that the software can schedule and loop a YouTube playlist.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Options for a 24/7 prerecorded YouTube playlist
If your primary need is an unattended loop, compare services that specifically describe cloud streaming of prerecorded videos to YouTube. They handle playout in the cloud, so the workflow does not depend on keeping your home computer online. That is a difference in where the stream runs, not evidence of any provider’s uptime.
- StreamNeo — cloud looping for YouTube: StreamNeo is a cloud service that keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos or a playlist. Its workflow is to upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; the service loops the uploaded material from the cloud. It is the first option to consider for this specific use because it is always on from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. See StreamNeo for details.
- Gyre — cloud prerecorded streaming: YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos on YouTube. That establishes its listed use case, but not comparable limits or independently measured continuity.
Those descriptions establish a fit with cloud prerecorded streaming, not a common, independently tested comparison of playlist order, scheduling, storage, recovery, duration, or YouTube archive behavior. Before committing to any provider, confirm those details and its current terms directly.

Self-managed alternatives for technical operators
If you want control over the server stack and are prepared to deploy, monitor, and maintain it, compare infrastructure-oriented tools rather than expecting a managed playlist product.
Ant Media Server and Nimble Streamer
A secondary SRS alternatives comparison names Ant Media Server and Nimble Streamer as server-oriented alternatives. That makes them candidates for technical operators evaluating a media-server stack; it does not establish their suitability for an unattended prerecorded YouTube playlist. Check each project’s current primary documentation for the protocols, playlist automation, YouTube compatibility, deployment requirements, and operating model your setup needs.

SRS or FFmpeg on a VPS
A hosting provider describes using server software such as SRS or FFmpeg to loop a video or playlist on a server and send it to YouTube. This is the provider’s description of a possible workflow, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation or an independent benchmark. Self-hosting means you are responsible for deployment and ongoing operation, including storage, bandwidth, monitoring, and restart behavior.
Do not infer an SRS installation procedure, command, supported protocol, or built-in playlist feature from a short alternatives listing. Confirm those specifics in current official project documentation before building around them.

The Shed self-hosted multistream studio
The Shed project README documents scheduled video playback and a playlist loop mode for an always-on channel. It also documents ingest via RTMP, SRT, and WHIP and distribution to YouTube and other endpoints. Those are project-documented capabilities, not independently tested reliability results. Check the current repository documentation to see whether its deployment and maintenance model fits your needs.

OBS and browser studios
YouTube’s encoder directory describes OBS as “Open source software for video recording and live streaming at no charge.” OBS is a production and encoding tool; that description alone does not make it a managed, unattended cloud playlist service. A browser studio such as StreamYard is positioned by its own comparison guide for interview, podcast, and webinar workflows, while that vendor guide says OBS or Streamlabs suit workflows needing deeper scene control. Treat those statements as vendor positioning rather than neutral test results.

Restream
YouTube’s encoder directory describes Restream as a service for streaming simultaneously to 30+ platforms. This is a directory description that may change; verify current destination limits with the provider if they matter. Multistream distribution answers where a live feed goes, not by itself whether prerecorded videos can loop unattended as a YouTube live stream.
How to choose the right category
| What you need | Category to evaluate | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Loop uploaded videos on YouTube while your computer is off | Managed cloud playlist streaming | Loop order, scheduling, storage, duration limits, disconnect recovery, and whether YouTube events are reused or recreated |
| Build and maintain your own streaming stack | Media-server software plus infrastructure | Current protocols, playlist automation, YouTube compatibility, deployment, monitoring, bandwidth, storage, and restart behavior |
| Produce a host-led show with guests or scenes | Browser studio or production software | Guest workflow, production controls, destinations, and whether unattended playback is actually supported |
| Send one live feed to multiple destinations | Multistream distribution service | Current platform limits and whether the product also handles the particular playout workflow you need |
There is no consistent audited comparison of these services’ playlist and recovery behavior in the available sources. Ask providers specifically about playlist order and repeat behavior, file and storage limits, stream restart after a disconnect, maximum duration, archive behavior, and whether a YouTube event remains the same stream or is recreated. Compare current total costs only after confirming the limits and plan terms that apply to your use.
Copyright and YouTube channel considerations
A tool that can play a file continuously does not grant rights to stream its contents or guarantee that a channel will be eligible for monetization. Use videos and audio you own or are authorized to broadcast, and review YouTube’s current policies before running a long-duration playlist. A technical ability to loop content is separate from YouTube’s decisions about copyright claims, channel policy, and monetization.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays uploaded videos to YouTube, not a live camera feed. Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps uses one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; after that, Monthly is $9.99 per month. For Indian creators, UPI works; cards are accepted worldwide. Start the free day at StreamNeo registration.
