Steam’s Global Top Sellers chart ranks the top 100 games and other eligible entries by revenue—not by copies sold, player count, or play time. Think of it as a live “Top of the Pops” for revenue: a snapshot of what is earning the most on Steam, with positions that can change.
What does Steam’s Global Top Sellers chart show?
Steam describes the page as “Top 100 selling games right now, by revenue.” It displays a rank alongside fields such as price, weekly position change, and weeks on the chart. The ranking is therefore a revenue leaderboard, not a published count of units sold. View Steam’s Global Top Sellers chart.
Steam’s September 22, 2022 announcement explains that the ranking uses total revenue from game editions, DLC, and in-game transactions. Steam put it this way: “The new top-selling lists rank games based on total revenue, including all sources such as DLC and in-game transactions so we can all get a more complete picture of which games players are excited about getting into and continuing to play.” Steam’s “New Real-Time and Weekly Steam Charts” announcement.
How to read the chart
- Rank: The entry’s current position on the selected list, based on Steam’s revenue measure. It is not a sales-unit total.
- Price: The listed price or free-to-play status shown for that entry at the time you view the chart. Prices and discounts can change.
- Change: Steam describes this as the number of positions an entry moved compared with the previous week. It shows movement, not why the movement happened.
- Weeks: How many weeks the game has appeared on the Top Sellers chart. This indicates longevity on the list, not total revenue or player count.
Why can a free-to-play game rank highly?
Because the ranking is based on revenue rather than the price of a base-game copy. Steam’s stated measure includes DLC and in-game transactions, so a free-to-play game can rank near the top when players spend on paid content. Steam also says an individual DLC item can appear as a separate chart entry if it sells well enough. A high position does not, by itself, show that large numbers of base-game copies were sold. Global, country, and other Steam charts
The Top Sellers chart offers global and country-specific views. Steam says a country-specific list may be shown by default according to a user’s location, and the chart controls let users switch to global or another country. A rank is only meaningful when its geography and capture date are clear.
Steam’s Charts area also includes different chart products, including Most Played, Steam Deck, weekly charts, monthly top releases, and best-of-year lists. These are not interchangeable: Top Sellers is revenue-based, while Most Played is a different measure, and the Steam Deck view is its own chart. Steam Charts.

Why the rankings change—and what they cannot tell you
The live chart is a moment-in-time ranking, so its order can shift. If you cite a rank, price, or discount, identify the date and whether you mean the global or a country-specific view. Steam’s weekly change and weeks-on-chart fields add movement and longevity context, but neither explains what caused a change.
Steam’s public explanation does not specify a detailed revenue formula, an exact live revenue window, how refunds are treated, or how ties are broken. The chart should not be used to infer those details, nor to convert a rank into a specific sales total. For player activity, consult the separate Most Played chart rather than treating Top Sellers as a measure of audience size. Steam Charts.
